Why would you pay the Medicare levy surcharge if you could probably get equivalent bare bones Private Health Insurance for the same cost?

It's kinda like either pay $1,500 in extra tax to the government or pay no extra tax and get a $1,500 Health Insurance policy

If you've claimed on Medicare and have private health insurance, do you need to pay the levy?

There are two levies, bring the Medicare Levy and Medicare Levy Surcharge.

Private Health Insurance, gets your out of Surcharge. Note this only applies to Hospital or combined cover not ancillary cover.
