gay..

rockford subs and amps.

warmer sound.

stronger more stable bass.

Not according to the car audiophiles/workshops & various awards

W6 line of JL car subwoofers are renowned for their SQ and pretty sure they have won many awards with that line of subwoofer.

This was 2-3 years ago but I'm sure the same still applies

Just sayin

I was referring to the alpine range.. Although I'm not really a fan of JL audio either..

Especially the type r splits and co ax.. Never liked them at all. I really like the original MB Quart and the now German meistro. They are fkn awesome. I don't car what any JB hifi sales assistant says.

Fk especially hooked up with the Rockford 360.

Man memories of sitting In the car for hours tuning with the laptop

I dig my Type R splits. You do have to stage them properly though - not speakers you can really be facing away from. My Type S sub does alright for what it is too, anymore and my 17 year old car would rattle to pieces.

JL amps are very good value for money. They made a name for a reason!

I'm pretty sure they basically made a knock off of JBL audio lol..

And me being an OCD audio guy, I can't stand the poor projection of the alpine range especially the harshness of them.. I can understand the value for money thing, but poor sound actually gives me a headache. You can blame mark for making me notice thing I probably would never have noticed before lol

I don't think Alpine count as value for money, except for maybe Type S stuff. They are more "get what you pay for" and sit in the medium cost range. It's not high end stuff but it's no JB HiFi combo sale package either. Fortunately all my gear came with my car.

If I was doing a system again in a decent car I'd hit up Boston/Rockford/Focal. Do it once do it properly!

Yeh that aswell, but why would you spend money on good support for shit speakers?

Being in audio you figure out how to make everything sound it's best. Whatever the position or setup be, or limited to..

Plus the better the speaker in most cases the less you have to worry about volume measured boxes or ported.. Or even the position they're in.

6x9 should never have been invented. Waste of time and money. The ones in my car annoyed me so much that I unplugged them lol

But focal/Rockford/German meistro.. All these you really don't have to worry about the position as they project substantially better than alpine shit.

My opinion anyway everyone likes different tunes, I prefer the warmer sound, where some actually like the middy sort of stuff.

I believe you get a lot better sound per dollar value in spending on setup than speaker models.

Put in the research and time and your average speaker models could sound as good as your higher end models if their setup is done poorly.

I've recently built a decware deathbox II enclosure. Haven't tested it yet though. However it's all wired up.

Anyone have a 1ohm stable amp for me to test?

I have a feeling mine might be 1ohm stable....

Will need to check, I used to be into car audio a few years go but not anymore. I can't even remember the model of the amp :/

At the moment its 1200wrms @ 2ohm for my sub

    • I’m doing some side developments on SR20det S13 engines, its one my hobby cars used it to compare flow capacity of some smaller size wheels. SR20det is one of another JDM legendary engines I'm sure there are plenty of SR enthusiasts on this forum, I will share results some common turbo configurations here. a quick run down of what the car is: Wide body 180sx Type X with black top engine (blue). It has: Stock bottom end Haltech 1500 ECU 5-0 motorsports trigger kit Kelford SR20DET Beehive Spring with Titanium Retainers Kelford Cams SR20DET S13 188-B 268/272 Cams G25-660 Turbocharger in T2 .64 rear housing internally gated ARP Head studs MLS head gasket 1000CC ID injectors Walbro 450L Fuel pump Front mount cooler kit JJR’s 3 inches turbo back exhaust (its too short for the 180sx it had to be extended) Pump 98 fuel Hub Dyno tune So far made 270rwkws at 22psi full boost by 4500RPM. Engine is very knock limited hence a pretty bad looking top end. From previous experiences it seems like SR20dets are happier with bigger size turbine, some thing like a GT30 would make way better top end, but on same time response is lost. It won't be a problem with S15 VCT engines. I'll be testing alternative turbine housing, turbine wheel and possibly dump pipe options for extra flow to resolve the problem and of course E85 would resolve all the issues.
    • Awesome writeup and details. Thanks for sharing the story so far. I can relate to parts of it with my previous car and some of the issues I had to deal with.
    • Wow the colour matched hard top completely transforms the car. Are there any nice front lip options for the car or is that off the table?
    • Generally yes but for some reason I've been ruthless this time around!  I might even need to do another tip run after the way I've finally been able to hit the delete button on shit I've stepped over, stepped around and tripped over for the past 10 years!
