The builders pay our rate, so using your logic, they must be happy to do so.

Of course everyone wants to pay less. Pretty sure seen numerous instances of unions crying over cheaper labor being brought in so they strike and abuse non union members.

So you're for bringing in overseas, under qualified and unlicensed workers? So you'd be happy for your company to fly in some Indians who will do your job for minimum wage, no commission, which they'll do without any argument because it's far better than what they're getting back home.

That's exactly what they try to do in our industry, the only difference being that in our industry, under qualified and unlicensed workers don't know what they're doing, but who cares about peoples lives when there's money to be saved.

Under qualified would be debatable I mean really certain aspects are universal. I got no issues on unions protecting safety of workers. It's the rest of the bs that goes with it that is a bit rich since 95% of workers don't get anywhere near the protection or benefits that unions inflict and if they don't get their way they strike and hold companies, governments and the public as a hole to ransom.

Plenty of Indians(and other nationalities) do my job and charge Fark all but none of them are major players in the market as clients can see a clear difference and benefit.

I can guarantee you the 'sparkies' they want to bring in to do our job for chicken feed are not nearly up to the standard that's required to get your A grade license here. Nor do they hold the necessary license, instead they're given one because it suits the powers that brought them here.

As for implying that its all cushy in the construction industry, you really don't know anything. Sure we don't usually have to climb in roof spaces but there are things we do on a daily basis where safety is put aside as its not practical to do 'safely'.

The union mentality that you describe barely exists these days. Getting rained off is a rarity as sites are designed so that it doesn't happen. Being heated off is a rarity as it is usually hottest after 4pm, and that clause is pretty much in there because we're forced to work in long sleeves pants gloves glasses and helmets. So when it sits at 34.9 all day, stiff shit, we work in it. Domestic don't get heated off but they do wear whatever they want, shorts singlets no top etc.

And just like the Indians in your industry that you mentioned, the smaller or domestic companies simply CANNOT deliver the projects our companies can, so I'm not sure how us being paid more is any different to you being paid more than inferior companies.

I'm not referring solely to electricians which is probably the most highly skilled of all the trades - but as a whole labourers, concreters,painters, plasterers and so forth. Even wharf / factory workers these types of roles could be done with cheaper labour with probably little difference to the overall completion of the job.

You would know yourself the difference between domestic and commercial are vast. That was my point to Moh which he will correct me if I'm wrong but his friend sounds like a domestic electrician.

So to claim we are paid to much is inaccurate as we could work for 3 months and get paid nothing, yes thats the risk we take. Ultimately your company pays X amount regardless of what happens.

I don't know if you think the union won't allow that, but its no difference to any other job, if you're no good they don't keep you plain and simple
