I have had 3 sets of fake rims, (drifteks, varrstoen's and RG tek's) I have put them through their paces and they have not been any different to the genuine ones except for the wank you hear on forums

all those shots you see of f**ked rims are from accidents that would have destroyed real rims anyway.

end of the day, I have bought real rims and fake, and these days i'd rather put my money towards other shit :P

So owning real wheels is wank?

Just cause you think from your point of view, there is better money else where spent?

I was going to go to WTAC this year...

Since I didn't go up there doing some rough calculations of expenses, travel, fuel, accomodation, food, drink, tickets etc I figure I've saved $1000...

It's logical that that should go directly towards my car mod budget right?

I'm thinking:

Alloy Radiator (suggestions?)
Oil Cooler (with thermo and filter relocation, suggestions?)

New Tint, I've just removed my old blue bubbly tint... everything is so clear now, but so bright!!!

I ran 17s on the XXRs, 17x9.75 +24 iirc and had 255/40

sup

is it just me or does every evo 8 have a different shade rear bar?

ive looked at so many and i think in all of them, the rear bar is a different tinge/shade compared to the rear quater panels

surely not all of them have had touch up / spray work ?

bumpers are always a different shade as it's plastic compared to metal, and there is something with the paint when it is applying so the shade is always off a little

I had teins, they were ok. But I would just spend the money and go BC coils, there could be a chance you get knocking front struts like I did. Iirc it was pretty common in 7s

already knocking lol

not at all... the whinging I hear on forums is wank.

Real wheels generally look better and perform better, but people need to get off their high horses about them.

like the flack I copped for unsprung weight of fake wheels in a thread........ in a 300+rwkw 1400kg car lol

end of the day i'm not chasing 10'ths and neither are most people on here

i'm sure you can see where i'm going with this jamie :P

Haha!

I just wanted your opinion, nothing personal against you.

I didn't mean to sound blunt.

and where would one purchase a Koyorad locally? What thickness is good for a 33. keeping the stock thermo shroud etc? Keeping in mind its a daily with occasional track use... My water temps are getting up a bit too high on the Dyno, and came up a bit too fast for my liking when I was at Sandown.

Would also be good to have a bung in it for my water temp sensor....

Kudos have them for about the same as what they cost from the US now

Bung for the stock sensor or bung for aftermarket one?

kudos are very good and have helped me a great deal. Also happens to be 5km away from where I live.

There we go free plug for u Andrew ;)

When someone my size is able to lift and carry 2 x 18x9.5 with rubber at once, then you'll see the value in some quality forged rims

Maybe its just because you lift brah?

Dont know if there is the same room as a 34

But I was able to fit a 52 or 58 can't remember which one, whilst still retaining the shroud

The one in Richmond or Springvale? Need heaps of stuff

He works at Richmond

And on the topic of real vs fakes

If Richo can't tell much of a difference between his light weight enkeis and rota's on the track, and that he also trusts the integrity of the rim to hold up at a track, then its good enough for me :woot:

Paul Cahill in his 32R, one of the fastest guys in SAU VIC also has run Rotas with no issue

    • Here's one I help build and tuned a decade ago, Garrett  GTX3071R Gen 1, T3 twin scroll 0.83 rear housing. Went from larger 272 cams down to smaller Tomei Poncams to help with the low end. S13 non VCT motor. Car was purpose built for the track, hence low down was the focus. Note the actual dyno chart shows lower boost, however the EBC and boost gauge showed 1.9Bar (Ignore the torque, I was young and didn't know how to set derived torque)
    • I’m doing some side developments on SR20det S13 engines, its one my hobby cars used it to compare flow capacity of some smaller size wheels. SR20det is one of another JDM legendary engines I'm sure there are plenty of SR enthusiasts on this forum, I will share results some common turbo configurations here. a quick run down of what the car is: Wide body 180sx Type X with black top engine (blue). It has: Stock bottom end Haltech 1500 ECU 5-0 motorsports trigger kit Kelford SR20DET Beehive Spring with Titanium Retainers Kelford Cams SR20DET S13 188-B 268/272 Cams G25-660 Turbocharger in T2 .64 rear housing internally gated ARP Head studs MLS head gasket 1000CC ID injectors Walbro 450L Fuel pump Front mount cooler kit JJR’s 3 inches turbo back exhaust (its too short for the 180sx it had to be extended) Pump 98 fuel Hub Dyno tune So far made 270rwkws at 22psi full boost by 4500RPM. Engine is very knock limited hence a pretty bad looking top end. From previous experiences it seems like SR20dets are happier with bigger size turbine, some thing like a GT30 would make way better top end, but on same time response is lost. It won't be a problem with S15 VCT engines. I'll be testing alternative turbine housing, turbine wheel and possibly dump pipe options for extra flow to resolve the problem and of course E85 would resolve all the issues.
    • Awesome writeup and details. Thanks for sharing the story so far. I can relate to parts of it with my previous car and some of the issues I had to deal with.
    • Wow the colour matched hard top completely transforms the car. Are there any nice front lip options for the car or is that off the table?
    • Generally yes but for some reason I've been ruthless this time around!  I might even need to do another tip run after the way I've finally been able to hit the delete button on shit I've stepped over, stepped around and tripped over for the past 10 years!
