Got pre-approved for finance. Only one company would finance a car that old, but wouldn't finance a Skyline. -.- Too much hoon for them, probably. So now the chcices are: Different car (may have to be newer, dunno) or Personal loan. I'm oging to talk to the mortgage choice guy and find out about personal loans, though I am defs considering a Maxima Ti after driving Mike's. Was nice.

Yeah, he already suggested that when I got into his for a quick spin.

There's so much choice out there and I think I'd be happy with any almost any car from the late 90's onwards. I just want a skyline so badly and don't want to have to wait. :( Stupid Laws

Can anyone recommend where I should be looking to get a fibreglass repair kit to fix up two front bars? Both require multi cracks etc patched over a 10+ cm area... So one of the little kits from Super cheap ain't gonna cut it...

Try Paintmobile on Cheltenham rd Dandenong. They should have everything you need.

leeham will tell you to get a sss.

this.

SSS will munch NA 31,32,33 & 34 all day.

SSS with decent exhaust, some interior removed and good tread will keep up with turbo 31,32,33 & 34 most of the day.

inb4 hate.

this I believe

this i am dubious about

Lol trying to quote your post accidentally clicked on your name and went to your profile bucket boy, says you're 22...

So ideally you shouldn't be on Ps any more / shouldn't have long left?

Just go forced induction from the get go then?

What is this the f**kin YouTube thread?

Anyway, three way rolling between SS ute, Evo X and old faithful.

SS gives the thumbs up after losing; this is common for Commodore/Falcon drivers to do, I've noticed...and I love it because it's just mutual admiration for another car being quicker, it's respect (to some people, that's more important). Evo on the other hand, looks dead ahead like he's thinking "why isn't my car faster? I spent 50k on this shit." Remind me again why we pole fun at the taxis when the import owners are the sore dream boats?!

/stillhaventgrownup

if I rock up next to a sports car with their window down I usually put it in 4th, give it a little bit for a second for dat supercharge whine usually scares most off :P

I had some xr6t ute playing with me down the monash yesterday, thing was pretty darn quick sleeper as with those chrome plumber pole things just looked like a work ute, apart from the xenons he had on it.

getting bored of 370rwkw doe might have to go for 450 or 500 soon

    • Have you put an aftermarket oil pressure gauge on and verified your oil pressure?   Noise being on the block, on exhaust side, how high up the block does it seem to be? It could be the VCT system getting cranky, especially if it's mainly at idle, and when warm, as that'll be your lowest point for oil pressure. Could be showing that oil passages / VCT solenoid are blocking.
    • Well, hydraulic lifters will get noisy if they are dirty/fouled in some way, and exactly how that manifests will depend on exactly what schmutz is where. There is a procedure on here somewhere for dismantling and soaking/cleaning them. Replacing them with new is about 50% of the work and about 5% of the money!
    • Thanks for the reply @GTSBoy this is is a hydraulic lifter engine. Yea right i did not realise the lifters were supposed to be compressible while installed. I could push them down but i had to lean almost my while body weight on them.  I have never heard of a lifter/ lifters ticking only at hot idle and getting worse the hotter it gets. I have owned a few jdm cars with noisy lifters. This noise is slightly more subtle, it is more of a sharp gentle metalic tic than the solid and more loud tapping I've heard on lifters. I have used a metal rod, alloy tube, hose and stethoscope and could not find the source of the tick. But it appears to be loudest on the actual engine block behind the exhaust cam gear and next to the oil filter. I had mate (40 year old mechanic) go over it with me and he couldn't find it either..  Could it be a cam seal issue of some sort?  Cheers
    • This seems problematic and unlikely at the same time. Vanilla RB2Xs have hydraulic lifters. They do have "zero" clearance, but only when running with oil pressure inside them. When not running, you should be able to compress them and obtain heaps of clearance. RB26s and Neos have solid lifters. They should have ~0.3mm and ~0.5mm on the inlet and exhaust respectively. If they have zero clearance then bad things are happening. With nothing else being wrong, it would mean that the valves would be held slightly (ever so slightly) open when they are supposed to be closed and it should have all sorts of problems when running, caused by leakage in/out through the valves. Or, zero clearance can indicate severe valve seat recession. None of it is good. Have you used a piece of hose as a stethoscope to try to localise the noise?
