Someone's status from my facebook..

Housing is as affordable now as it was when our parents were buying them. It's just that our parents didn't want a three storey, 6 bedroom house with a theatre, pool and rumpus room. They didn't spend their days at the beach, eating out 14 times a week, doing 2 euro trips a year, pissing $300 a night at lagerfield, driving their brand new Holden wearing their new Armani jeans and ray ban shades. So nah, I don't buy into this 'housing is unaffordable' crap.

Does raise some valid points

reminds me of when sometimes the mrs says how much she loves big houses, on the beach, etc, would renovate it all herself (she still doing uni) then when I say you're dreaming "bla bla I'm allowed to have goals you know"

my room mate just got his 5th property at 30, this one up at QLD gotdayum dem sales wages

lol i hadnt made the jewish connection.

ive been seeing this in action more and more lately. mainly because people my age went into uni as the hipster thing was taking off. or that maybe the idea of hipster in everyones head isnt quite on the money...

a list of stand-out people I was chatting to on the weekend:

Sasha - vegetarian by choice. drives a brand new hatchback prius (which im confident she paid for). works as a teacher in a special needs school. skinny jeans were here designation camping pants. violently crushed every insect that crawled out of the camp fire because didnt want them near her when sleeping (how f**king retarded is that). 8/10 points

Alex - had a housewarming for a new rental townhouse in north coburg. had more lounge chairs outside than cups in the average kitchen. currently restoring a 70's VW bug. drifts occupation a bit, but is a decent tradesman. Being a metal-head and generally worldly person lowers the score. 5/10 points.

Pat - studied *insert something generic here*. has a strong opinion on politics and evil corporations etc. dates a vegan. decent guitarist. looking for work. recently quit job because was sick of it. I found out his dad was a high up dude in Fulton Hogan. friendly guy, but he gets 10/10 points.

Emily - studied art/design something. couldnt get work (that paid). started a popular seinfield trivia event. makes knick-knacks and sells them at markets. self-diagnosed hipster, but jokes about it. 9/10 points.

in summary: these free spirited, post-uni people are slowly succumbing to the australian lifestyle of: get money, spend money doing what you enjoy.

that usually means doing some niche thing because your qualifications arent getting you work.

5 properties...lol what a fkin leech. Making you sweat over his gf's utility usage so he can tenant them all out instead of taking on a mortgage himself. Hope the interest rates soar and fk this guy out of his own equity.

This to me is like discovering Kramer had a property investment portfolio all these years

No worries brah, but yeah he's never lived in them and basically just rents where he's wanting to live (only since about ~2 years ago) I guess the advantage being not needing to buy any furniture, appliances, not being tied down in one spot can just pick up and go where ever and it's not such a big thing moving I guess (bed and a desk).

yeah he rents them all out

i still dont think its what its cracked up to be.

friend of mine is similar age and tried to get ahead in property. what he hates is that between paying rates/property water bills/real estate fees, his bank account is like a bungy cord. he's trying to settle out rural-ish, build a house on land etc and struggling to tie money down for it. apparently it gets more complicated with borrowing more or selling the houses because all the mortgages are tied off of each other (or something, whatever it is that property investers do). house in WA depreciated too. but overall he's just sick of the stress.

its a lot of time, effort and money to just break even (which is considered a decent outcome). not everyone can be a winner.

but yeah, your housemate is a tight ass. hope he chokes on a black & gold branded snack one day.

This x10000

I distinctly recall my parents buying a 5 bedroom house (in Seaford) for 105K.

Without looking (because houses are for people who don't waste money on broken cars) I'm confident it's way more than that now, accounting for inflation for sure. For absolute sure the average wage has not tripled/quadrupled/qintupled since 1990.

Also, housemate owns five properties?

Biggest plot twist ever.

I'd be coming down like a hammer asking for more contribution when hearing that information.

Waiting to see what happens this week, the 'weekday rule' has been used up (last night) so she better not be around tonight or tomorrow night.

Even still, I DONT want any contribution, I just want the original deal we had set - but willing to compromise 3 nights.

Does he earn credits for nights he doesn't use?

Loyalty incentive program? e.g. Each night she's not over, she gets a free 10 minute shower redeemable at next visit...and every minute over that cap charged at $2 a minute. Wait outside the bathroom door with a stopwatch and give a 5 minute warning knock.

    • You're not wrong but 5W30 at 100C is like 10 cSt vs 25 cSt for 10W60. If we think in terms of viscosity margin 10W60 will probably still be ok at 130C but 5W30 is probably too little. It's absolutely shocking how hot the oil gets in something like a stock FL5 from only ~3 minutes of use on the Nordschleife. I would not risk taking a car like that to anything remotely intense without a ton of work done for cooling. Heat shielding on the manifold/turbo/downpipe, oil coolers, etc.
    • I think the concept is highlighting the various scenarios where thicker oil helps, and thicker oil potentially doesn't help and only generates heat and costs power, in turn for safety which isn't actually any safer (unless you're going real hot). If anything this does highlight why throwing Castrol 10w-60 for your track days is always a solid, safe bet.
    • Jason should have shown a real viscosity vs temp chart. All the grades have very little viscosity difference at full operating temperature.
    • Oops... I meant to include the connector  view... BR/W - power from fuse L/W - motor negative to fan control amp (and off to HVAC pin19) OR/B - PWM signal (from HVAC pin20) B --  ground
    • Yep, if you are applying filler it sounds like there is something wrong with the body lol. Safe to assume there is going to be a lot of sanding going on if your still applying fillers.  Picture a perfect bare metal panel, smooth as glass. You lay down your primer, it's perfect. (why are you going to sand it?) You lay down the colour and clear, it's perfect. No sanding at all took place and you've got a perfectly finished panel.  You won't be chasing your tail, sounds like you were prepping to start laying filler. If your happy with the body after the sanding, there is some bare metal exposed and some areas with primer, no issues at all, start laying the filler. You are safe to lay filler on bare metal or primer (of course check your technical data sheet as usual for what your filler is happy to adhere to).  This isn't a 100% correct statement. There is primer that is happy to adhere to smooth bare metal. There are fillers that are happy to adhere to smooth bare metal. Just make sure you're using the right materials for the job.  Typically if you are using filler, you would go primer, colour and clear. I've never seen any instances before where someone has laid colour over body filler (maybe this happens, but I haven't seen it before). So your plan sounds pretty normal to me.
