Hey everyone, i know this is going a few pages back... but regarding coil packs and issues with them; Mine on my R34GTT seem to have started playing up (shaking, mainly noticeable on idle) and car has far less power than normal.

This happened to my previous R34GT and i replaced the whole lot with Yellowjackets, this fixed the problem.

I've ordered some replacements but my main concern is if i'm doing any damage to the car by driving it around before i receive/install the replacements.

Because i know there's a problem i am driving it like a nancy boy as i'm worried i'll screw something up.

I'm assuming that your first port of call was changing spark plugs?

If the coilpacks are on their way out, and they are bad enough that its not idling right, it will def be missing on boost and you'll hear a bunch of misfires through the exhaust.

I'd change plugs to a $25 set of Copper plugs and see if the problem persists, before spending $$$ on new coilpacks.

What mods? and what plugs are in it atm?

Thanks for the reply mate,

Have changed the spark plugs with no avail (problem persisted), definitely missing on boost but once i noticed something wasn't right i didn't really want to push the car too hard.

Only modification is adjustable coilovers, apart from that it's completely stock. Plugs are factory at the moment.

I'm fairly certain it's the coil packs as it feels exactly the same as my last car's issues

Hard luck Tony. I know how much time you put into that over the last few months! I'm waiting for someone to steal my car (secretly wishing)...seems only to happen to the people who don't want theirs stolen :/

On the brighter side, you can upgrade your daily earlier than expected...

Sorry to hear man :(

all it needs is tyre level with guards front and rear and will be perfect :)

how much low will I get from eibach springs? I would like to drop it only like an inch on the stock coilovers... want this one to be legal as possible

this... oh god this!

Pulled carb apart and got busy with the carby cleaner

Fixed the out of tune jettings

Replaced the ridiculously restrictive air filter with just mesh

Idle's now more stable

Throttle response improved greatly

Sound is now even louder/better

Might aswell service it too while it's stripped

Don't think neighbors seem happy though apparently 15k+rpm at 11.30pm is breaking some law

the smackdown... embrace it

Hey Scott's gonna be making a 3.5" dump an front pipe(2 piece) for around the same price of all the other combos.. Would you be interested? Coz then that's 3 of us

dunno man... I was planningn to buy second hand so it's cheap and doensn't have ANY shine to it

Don't go too low, evo handles great from stock, so any lowering is purely cosmetic / anti-4wd jokes.

An inch is about perfect isn't it? What wheels are on it?

yeah, that's what i'm after... about 1"

rims are KOYA RG Tech (Advan RG ripoff's) 18x9.5 but unsure of affset untill i take one off... looks to be approx +20

    • Hows your intake piping? Are you still running stock? Having in the stock AFM position would mean, if the BOV was shut/venting out, it'd create the almost stalling kind of effect right // "the rich pulse behaviour" due to MAF thinking air is flowing ? But this would be better than having the bov in the stock position + MAF on/just before cross over piping right?
    • Essentially, yes. Although I wouldn't put the AFM on the crossover pipe. I'd want to put it into what amounts to the correct size tube, which is more easily done in the intercooler pipework. I bought a mount tube for card stile AFM that replaces the stock AFM - although being a cheap AliExpress knockoff, it had not flange and I had to make and weld my own. But it is the same length and diameter as the stock RB AFM, goes on my airbox, etc etc. I don't have a sick enough rig to warrant anything different, and the swap will take 5 minutes (when I finally get around to it and the injectors & the dyno tune).
    • So to summarise, the best thing to do is to move recirc to between turbo and IC, and maf on the crossover pipe. Meaning I'd need a recirc flange, drill a hole in the piping on turbo outlet area. And drill hole on crossover to fit/weld maf sensor? Either that or put the MAF on the turbo inlet right?  Is an aftermarket recirc/blowoff valve recommended? Do currently have family in Japan so could probably bring something back with maybe a cheeky lil SuperAutobacs run?
    • Yep, so far most have said that it looks like corrosion on the wall from piston not moving. Which then has probably damaged the oil rings and caused those vertical marks. The longest the engine was still after the rebuild, was the winter of 2018 - 2019, plus the boat trip to Japan. When I shipped the car, it had normal gas in the tank but before that winter pause, it had E85 in tank.  In any case, even if either one of those was the cause, it happened close to 6 years ago and the car has been driven something like 30 000kms after the fact. Again, apart from the plugs and the dip stick, there is nothing in the way the car runs that would indicate what has been going on in the engine. I am going to consult a shop and ask their opinion, what would be the best approach. I do have some access to a garage I could use to diagnose further myself, but time is very restrictive. Might end up buying another engine that could be used while this one is being remedied. Without pulling the head, it will be impossible to find out if it needs another bore, but here's to hoping a hone would suffice.  Goddamnit, I would really have preferred this not happening.
    • Boot is going to be replaced eventually. I just wire brushed what I could and rust converted. Then painted in rust kill primer. the spoiler also got repainted and plugs replaced on the ends. The under side of the bonnet is going to be black also, currently white. But red on the top side, same colour code as the silo to begin.
