Hide account is for making your banking streamlined and less annoying.

Like say you have 4 kids, each kid can have a savings account and a college fund account, then you can also have a holiday saving account, a car saving account, a bills account and a house deposit account.

Them you have your every day accounts so maybe 4?

You can go from having 16 accounts on screen and in drop downs to just 4.

I must have some forgotten kids who needed some extra cash. PayPal says they are named Angus & Natasha.

Need to go into a branch now to sort this out. Damn you public holiday.

shit thats f**ked. why would there be an option to hide an account? so when you log in people (aka your partner) cant see you've got a secret account?

your money should be covered by the bank because...

a) they hacked their bank system

b) created a bank account and transferred money from said account without your permission or knowing

you havent done anything wrong. its not like you used some dodgy smart phone or ATM and entered details of your account. if its via the banks website or system then its their security breach, not yours.

(when in NZ my card got scanned by an ATM and someone started withdrawing from america. barely spoke to commonwealth about it due to reception, but they gave me all the money back within a day)

so this is dependent on how they got access to your account.

eg making it simple if you gave a friend the login as you weree away from a computer and they did the dodgy, that's not the banks fault is it.

they will do an investigatoiona nd work this out, don;t expect the cash back in a day or 2 it usually takes a couple weeks.

re "hacking" a bank it does not happen.

what happens is that they get access to your account usually by you logging into the bank from an un secured computer eg a communal pc at a internet cafe/work site that some-onme has put a trojan on.

or more commonly your PC has been compromised (first thing is to run a good scan on that)

this is why banks are moving to things like One Time Passowrds for banking log in:

eg

https://vip.symantec.com/

SO it's something you know, eg your password plus something you have (a phone with an app on it) thus 2 factor authentication rather than a simple password

or more more important accounts (or dealing with governments) something like PKI using Hardware tokens:

http://www.symantec.com/managed-pki-service/

https://www.verisign.com.au/gatekeeper/overview/

So the more of this that happens..the more work I get.

And welcome to what I do for a living.

Securing this sort of thing so it does not happen.

They managed to login with my unique ID + password ; and the only place you type unique ID is for internet banking. So no doubt a keylogger on a computer.

Only place i login is on my phone, personal laptop & work laptop which are safe. The last place I recall outside of the norm would have been my mortgage brokers computer to print bank statements...

Have raised the concern with them...makes a perfect target...Small family-operated franchise dealing with plenty of bank information, wouldn't have the same level of security as banks etc

However the Bank should have 2-step verification if opening a bank account...very easy to open account & overdraw

IMO you shouldn't be able to open a bank account connected to existing accounts without your 100 points of ID in person or at least the SMS code auth system that netbank makes me do for new/unknown account transfers.

Unfortunately with online banking systems and the way they are marketed these days, to be faster / more simple / easier and more secure, the former occasionally comes at a cost to the latter.

if they could not open a new account they would have just gutted your main one as fast as they could..seen it plenty of times so they still would have got the cash.

SO lets say it turns out that the key logger is on your computer as your Antivius was not up to date or not installed..

who should pay for this the bank or the end user?

I would recommend running a online scan of your system as some software now patches the antivirus stuff if it is not upto date to add itself as safe.

Are there other ways to transfer funds from his account to another account without the SMS autehntication code though..?

Can't gut the account as you require an sms code for any bank transfers. A PayPal direct debit avoids this verification hence why they went along this way.

Done all the updates/scans. My system is clean. (I have a paid subscription provided by work - which themselves use vip Symantec app on my phone)

there are but you need a business account to do it, (basically faking a Direct debit auth from) so it's basically unworkable for fraudsters.

in the case of not having ability to create sub accounts.

they will do the paypal authorization against your main account and hope that you don't spot the few cents transaction they do to authorize the account then slam it out ASAP and try and get the cash out prior to you noticing.

this will then get transferred to a 3rd party account. this is the sucker that is going to get reamed by this.

this is a "innocent" read stupid person who has replied to one of those posters on a power pole saying make money fast working from home.

they claim to be a imported that has not got a business account in AU yet.

what your job is to take in payments from our suppliers, keep 10% then forward the rest to our corporate HQ via western union, so the money goes overseas and cannot be traced.

thus the audit trail ends at some-one who did not commit the fraud and was used as a third party.

if it is the mortgage broker then you could run into an issue.

as you freely gave the details up to the mortgage broker (ie by entering the details on their computer) you have technically indemnified the bank.

you would then need to chase up the mortgage broker for compensation.

that also said in 99.9% of cases the banks just deal with it internally anyhow as it easier for them and they allocate certain $$ for this anyhow.

Lol just tried to pull out money from atm. Ate my card and it said its locked. Zzzzz

yeah they will lock your accounts, you will need to go into bank with ID to get cash now.

oh and expect all new account details as well, so any Direct deposits/payments will all need to be changed.

Credit card still worked. Public holiday not fun

hmm if they got your netbank details they can see your credit card number...this should be locked as well.

keep an eye out for dodgy transactions on this as it will now be up for sale from a Russian site.

as soon as your main account fixed I would get these changed as well. else 6 months later going through this shit again

They don't have cvv number or expiry date. That should hopefully stop them.

Can I hire you as my bounty hunter? Find Angus & Natasha

easy enough to get around CVV if you feel like it

they just code your number onto a blank card and use it in the country that still accepts signatures.

AU is better now it is all swipe and pin but most places in the world are not like that.

remember most fraudulent transactions happen OS not AU as then harder to prosecute.

ie don't shit in your own backyard.

    • Yeah, but look at the margin in viscosity between the 40 and the 60 at 125°C. It is not very large. It is the difference between 7 and 11 cP. Compare that to the viscosity at only 90°C. The viscosity axis is logarithmic. The numbers at 90 are ~15 and ~35. That is about half for the 40 wt oil and <half for the 60. You give up viscosity EXPONENTIALLY as temperature rises. Literally. That is why I declare thicker oil to be a bandaid, and a brittle one at that. Keep the oil temperature under about 110°C and you should be better off.   Having said all of that, which remains true as a general principle, if you have indeed lost enough oil from the sump that the pump was seeing slightly aerated oil, then all bets are off. That would of course cause oil pressure to collapse. And 35 psi is a collapse given what you were doing to the engine. Especially if the oil was that hot and viscosity had also collapsed. And I would put money on rod or main bearings being the source of the any noise that registered as knock. Hydraulic lifters should be able to cope with the hotter oil and lower pressure enough to prvent too much high frequency noise, although I am willing to admit it could be the source.
    • Thanks for the reply mate. Well I really hope its a hose then not engine out job
    • But.... the reason I want to run a 60 weight is so at 125C it has the same viscosity as a 40 weight at 100C. That's the whole reason. If the viscosity changes that much to drop oil pressure from 73psi to 36psi then that's another reason I should be running an oil that mimics the 40 weight at 100C. I have datalogs from the dyno with the oil pressure hitting 73psi at full throttle/high RPM. At the dyno the oil temp was around 100-105C. The pump has a 70psi internal relief spring. It will never go/can't go above 70psi. The GM recommendation of 6psi per 1000rpm is well under that... The oil sensor for logging in LS's is at the valley plate at the back of  the block/rear of where the heads are near the firewall. It's also where the knock sensors are which are notable for 'false knock'. I'm hoping I just didn't have enough oil up top causing some chatter instead of rods being sad (big hopium/copium I know) LS's definitely heat up the oil more than RB's do, the stock vettes for example will hit 300F(150C) in a lap or two and happily track for years and years. This is the same oil cooler that I had when I was in RB land, being the Setrab 25 row oil cooler HEL thing. I did think about putting a fan in there to pull air out more, though I don't know if that will actually help in huge load situations with lots of speed. I think when I had the auto cooler. The leak is where the block runs to the oil cooler lines, the OEM/Dash oil pressure sender is connected at that junction and is what broke. I'm actually quite curious to see how much oil in total capacity is actually left in the engine. As it currently stands I'm waiting on that bush to adapt the sender to it. The sump is still full (?) of oil and the lines and accusump have been drained, but the filter and block are off. I suspect there's maybe less than 1/2 the total capacity there should be in there. I have noticed in the past that topping up oil has improved oil pressure, as reported by the dash sensor. This is all extremely sketchy hence wanting to get it sorted out lol.
