I watched friends go off there back in the day. Not a particularly forgiving road. Nice drive though. I love Ridge Road (the road between Kalorama and Olinda that Skyhigh sits on.)

In all honesty, it scares the shit out of me...every single time...and I love it. I shouldn't, because I almost died on the mountain (as in, paramedics agreed we shouldn't have made it out alive) in '07. But it's about staring into the face of the scariest thing I can think of, and being afraid of nothing else in life. Nothing compares for adrenalin.

Thankfully all the friends who came off lived with minimal injuries, but it was only a matter of time until someone wouldn't be so lucky.

What sort of car did you come off the mountain in? I know somebody who rolled their Pulsar down and enbankment and landed on the roof, your story sounds similar to his...

hamilton can't get a break lol

worst accident i had was on a dirt bike, flogging my 2 stroke probably around 2001, through a farm field and a massive drainage dip in the field appeared out of nowhere took me by surpise threw me off the bike and hit a large rock on the side of my head around the size of a volley ball put a crack in my helmet.. could of left me in massive pain or brain damage I reckon if I wasn't wearing a helmet

hit a tree when I was 18 in my old 4 door but wasn't too bad just took the corner a bit quick in the wet.. wrote it off.. the payout made way for coupe and manual which was awesome so happy about that accident!

For those 7kms... you're free?

Edit: didn't mean to make light of your near-death experience, sorry brah

Yeah it would have been the same accident, I was riding passenger.

Think he found that parking pass somewhere.

How did that happen?

And you wanna take us there on bikes -.-

Different road to the one I ride along, the crash happened on the Tourist road and the guy was driving full pelt. Was a turbocharged Pulsar with an over-confident driver behind the wheel, who didn't know how to deal with oversteer after installing a tight rear sway bar. Came around a corner at high speed, rear slid out, he over-corrected a couple of times and slid off the edge of the road into pitch black (was midnight) for a downhill roll / bounce off trees and eventually landed on the roof.

I've been in a crash on Mount Dandy too -___-. I think was the downhill on that bit between the Basin and Sassafrass that Birds posted up.

I wasn't driving though, I was the passenger, which makes it worse if anything, no control at all... We went straight into the MOUNTAIN side though (I think we hit a reflector pole, then slid UP the side of the mountain (dodging a reflector pole) and then came back down and hit another one... :| ).

Was mate's first time downhill, fwd+auto, going uphill had him a bit overconfident (turned back relatively early on the route, as there was roadworks), and then with brakes cooked on the way down and not providing enough brake power... gg. I remember on the turn before that telling him to slow down on the turn before we crashed, since we were going (what I felt) was too quick, but that turn was nice and gentle, the one we crashed on was not. After we had stopped and I heard the radiator hissing and shit I thought I was going to die in an explosion rofl. We both left unscratched though... (air bags didn't even deploy :|).

It's funny how sometimes the passenger can feel the car is sitting on it's limits and the driver can't, it should be the other way round. I had the exact same feeling, was about to tell him to slow down because it was starting to scare me...next corner...skiiiiiid. This is why I like the uphill too, uphill is your friend for stopping quick.
