Starting Point

She looks heaps clean there, but she has been so abused it's not funny. There was a massive amount of camber in the front right, and we've managed to reduce it to around -4.6. Unfortunately, the left looks like it's on a massive angle too, i think. I don't look at the car heaps, she kind of sits at home ><

Anyways..

New Suspension

First things first; go lower, go harder. I thought it was running compressed stock springs because everything was squeaky and felt like shit. The body roll was a bit of a problem as well as it was causing a little bit of understeer.

Turns out it had king springs, so it was *too* bad... btu still, out with the old, in with the new. Pedders Extreme A coil-over suspension went straight on, and I was scraping out of blacktown pedders in no time.

Here's a picture of me tucking 17" rims.

It only rubbed when i hit the brakes going down a steep hill and i turned at the same time... so really it never rubbed. LIfe was good.

Brakes

The brakes were next on my list because the disks were warped and the thing stopped like shit.

I was going to fork out $1400 for slotted rotors all round and better pads from Pedders, but luckily they didn't have any in stock. That saved me heaps.

Because of this, I ran over to Skyline Spares and collected myself all the gear for a 5 stud conversion, giving my GTST brakes (upgraded to four pistons at the front, bigger rotors, bigger calipers).

I decided to do this myself because, like the topic title says, I wanted to learn more about the car.

I haven't got much photos, but after three weeks, lots of swearing, lots of head banging, and two split-pin screw things later... I FINALLY got it done.

Because it went so over time, I had to take it to a mechanic to get him to bleed the brakes, because I jsut don't get time to do it with work and such, and I needed the car within a couple days after completing.

The brakes need a rebleed, i'll be doing that soon. I'll get a mate to help me in exchange for helping change his rotors :)

Why the stockies on the rear?

Like a true p-plater, I decided to go take this thing out sliding... Turns out the rear diff is f**ked and it's doing onesies... meaning drifting can only be done in the wet... Sigh.

Oh, and yes, i did this off public roads.

You can also see from the above pic how tucked the front wheels are.. it's not too much but because the tyres are a lot thicker than my last pair, they're scrubbing a whole lot.

I'm going to roll the guards up when I get a chance.. just need to borrow my mates jack again... :(

And it's not pack up time at work.. So I'll update the thread tomorrow when I'm back at work :)

My mate has driven EF and AU falcons with open diffs and can get them sideways in the dry. He is crazy though, just reefs on the wheel at 80+ then countersteers, lol.... Nice little project man, wish I had an import on my P's. I get my opens in December though, so there's time for that ;)

The falcons go sideways alright.. my gfs cousin had one with a locked diff and it went sideways on command. Problem with my liner is it's only peg-legging atm, so when I try to drift in the dry the bastard kinda squats and you can hear the power going to the diff, and stopping at the diff (thats what it sounds like anyway).

that's the next thing to hit on my list (right after I fix up the sub in the rear, and get the new fusion speakers in... oh and save the 2k i need for a frekaing diff -.-)

And trust me, you don't want an import car on your Ps. Crap fuel consumption, combined with no power and bad rep from cops... no real point until you're on your fulls. In a way, I wish I sold my old pristine N/A R33, kept my African American (black r32 gtst) and just played with that... ahh well.

    • Sounds like it may all just be some baseless outrage stoked by the carexplore guy? As in the linked social media outrage on facebook just goes back to carexplore as a source again. Further shown by the council response that nothing actually has changed: "The Private Land Use Permit has been part of the Casey Community Local Law for a number of years. It's important to clarify that this permit is not new, and no changes have been made to the permit or the Local Law in relation to the permit." The full council response in Prank's link sounds reasonable to me. Saying that as someone who neither lives there nor has a front yard to call their own  
    • Clutch hydraulics are also all good, looks like a brand new slave cylinder and everything bled up well. No idea what the actual clutch is, and I don't intend to pull the box off on the floor to find out, so unless we have trouble on the dyno or at shakedown that will remain a mystery for the new owner
    • Front brakes are G4 8 pot calipers over 330mm discs with braided lines. Everything looks good, pretty sure these are off my old 350. Pads are brand new and judging from gold colour are Winmax which is what I also run on my race car, Neil and I both sourced brake stuff from Matty at Racebrakes Sydney who really knows his stuff Everything has bled up nicely with all new Motul RBF600 fluid, there were 2 loose hard line connections and the calipers were new on the car so I ended up doing it 3 times but it is perfect now
    • So, starting with the rear brakes. They look like standard R33 GTST, and will need new pads shortly (less than 5mm material, probably only 1 day left). The slotted discs (probably DBA) are near new at 18.01mm and the lines are braided
