Shit just got stung big time Whole story. Bought a SAFCII on Ebay they are there at the moment for $428 then you pay $30 postage well still fairly cheap total $458 when I pay I am told there is a another fee of $20 for paypal fees was not happy at this stage but I wanted it so now costing $478. Now the big crunch just got a bill from customs for another $125 for GST and duties. So now it has cost me $603 I am not happy Jan.

Youd rather buy it from ebay than from nengun or greenline?!

In order to get something cheapest you need to get closest to the source, you dont get much closer than nengun

who knows if half the stuff on ebay is real or what they say is promised actually comes thru

i got safc here but if i got from nengun would have been 500 tops, avcr was only about $650 all up in my hands

i would only ever buy anything off ebay if it was less than half the going price or similar.

you never know if customs are gonna hit you up or not.

in saying that though i have bought cd players of ebay in the past and had no trouble what so ever.

This isn't a problem with Ebay or the person that sold it to you, its your own fault.

Many people blame Ebay for ripping them off etc when the purchaser doesn't read the fine print or has no idea what they are actually doing, you have now become part of this group.

Also just because you buy from Nengun or similar doesn't mean you won't get stung for GST, its pretty much a luck thing.

This post is not bagging buying things off Ebay or saying I got ripped off, I except it is my fault for not checking more. This is more to say if you think you are getting something cheap it may not be so. and beware I took my chance and lost. This is for people to be aware that it might cost you way more than you think.

Well on the positive side, i got mine from ebay (SAFC-II) and had no probs.

Second hand although only because it is a shelf/display model so never installed.

The ebay guy is japandy and he usually has a few good things.

I paid around $360 all up and it also had the stand included :)

Guess i was just lucky, but then again, i haven;t installed it yet and it may not work!!

I am an ebay seller.

So here's my advice:

If you buy something from overseas, never use EMS or DHL, etc...You'll be hit with Customs Fees 100% of the time. Just ask for the conventional airmail where they sender needs to declare the goods on a small green sticker.

Ask the seller to tick the 'GIFT' box and declare only 2/3 of the price you paid for it. Your chances of getting taxed then is minimal.

I made a $450 purchase off Nengun about a month ago (whom uses EMS) and was not hit with any taxes etc. The package arrived in 2 business days :)

I bought about $4,000 worth of stuff from japan last year and got it sent through ems and never got hit with any customs or gst chargers.

those who didn't get hit with the customs tax and charges are lucky....it really is like a russian roulette game, if customs opens up ur packages and inspects the products, then the chances of paying tax are highly likely...even ticked as 'gift'....

as for "100%" of the time.....I am wrong there....EMS 80% of the time..DHL 100% of the time...

if the stuff is used/old, chances of getting taxed are lesser...

the other way to get around it (or minimising chances of getting taxed) is to seperate the box/manuals, etc...just send the unit in 1 parcel..and the other stuff by normal mail....that way, the customs officer dun know what the hell the item is (unless it is a pretty obvious item).......

i trade watches on ebay........90% of the time, the watches i import i dun get taxed as they come in batches of 3.......but i remember paying $90 clearance fees on a $350 Raymond Weil watch once...and that was through DHL!

you can also get ur mates to send over dvds, cds, etc.....they r much cheaper in asia..just dun send more than 1 copy of a title and u'll be right...

The paypal fees if you are just a new member to paypal.. that could come with anything.

Once you have signed up you get $20 credit on your next paypal purchase I believe. I think its just to check the credit card is legitimate, so in a way its a safety precaution.

Ahh the good old warranty repair returnā€¦thatā€™s the best one to use..you canā€™t dispute itā€¦especially when the supplier is good enough to include a service report :D

BTW Iā€™d be questioning $125 payable on something that didnā€™t cost $500 bucks in the first placeā€¦being taxed more than 25% is excessive, considering 15% duty and %10 GST.

      Sounds like the solenoid might be cactus, if the solenoid trigger wire was still attached (and it was just the main power to the starter itself remove). Just to provoke Neil haunting me for the rest of my life... Have you tried tapping it with a hammer while someone switches the key to start? This might work for the fuel pump too... šŸ˜›

      Only in a market where OBD was a thing. The rest of the world was quite happy to let the US EPA only affect US cars for quite a while. The* problem with datalogs is that unless you are very familiar with what every trace should look like, on their own and as an ensemble, you can and will see weird shit that can and will lead you astray, not realising that what you are seeing is the normal consequence of various transient inputs. *Really, "a" problem, as there are of course many other problems too. Look, these cars are so bloody simple that if it is missing or stumbling, the obvious thing is to break out the old mental diagnostic list and just go do all the things that you know you should. After proving that the plugs are clean and sound, ditto the coil stalks, coils, loom connectors, etc, and then making sure that there is fuel pressure at about the right numbers (while driving!, not while sitting in the garage free blipping it), then maybe you go looking at AFM voltages, manually testing the igniter, putting a scope on the CAS, etc. Then you're into pulling the injectors for a spray pattern look-see and perhaps a clean, squirting carby cleaner around the inlet manifold looking for leaks, and all the more annoying and esoteric, but still common as muck faults that these things have. I wouldn't ever bother looking at the trims, as they are usually bullshit on these old clunkers anyway.
