Who teh f**k earns 1300 a week?

I want that job

Sounds more like a 2 income home to me

sister in law is a building estimator and she earns (gross) over $1700 a week. she's been on above the 'average' wage for a few years now. plus all the people in the mines earn well above $1300 a week. they'd probably clear that much. actually come to think of it, i got offered a job a while back where i would've earnt more than $1300 a week, but that was only because it was working 12 hours a day, 6 days a week.

The average wage, which current sits at about $69,000, is gross, not nett, which is just over $1k a week after tax but before any levies or anything, ie, Medicare Levy. So consider it a round $1k/week after tax.

yeah thats what im on as a semi skilled public servant for the railways, closed workshop etc but its very average rates compared to proper tradies etc.

We are screwed if it ever goes private like Sir bazza is intending..

as for minimum wages being higher in the states resulting in cheaper cars..how the F does that make sense? i know they have economies of scale etc but we are still getting majorly ripped off here. Mostly because people will simply pay up. The internet is slowly eroding that and the government even pulled in Apple and a few others last week to parliament to explain why we are charged so much more fo Ipads etc.

still a long way to go though..

:domokun:

i dont know where they get these figures on "average" wages, but they seem quite skewed to me!!!

Yes, I take the word "average" with a grain of salt, because whenever the 'bell curve' is skewed as you say Adam, there becomes a bigger difference between "average" (ie "mean") and "median".

you read it wrong. minimum wages in the states are about half of what they are here. that's why prices are cheaper. running costs are less, plus the income tax over there is less too, so businesses get more profit from sales (on the downside, they have a f**ked healthcare system and general economy).

put simply, if you want to aussie shops to sell shit for less, get the government to drop the minimum wage and tell everyone to take a pay cut

Yes I think a large proportion of the country would be very happy to be at 69'000 as an "average" lol

...person A makes 100k per annum..

...person B makes 30K per annum..

...average wage is 65k per annum..

...person A feels like a boss..

...person B ends up on anti depressants..(that he hopes he can bulk bill)

91 octane, $2.19/L here in NZ. i dont even look at 98octane, :( Huge government tax on fuel also, they take a good %70 of that.

Wages are crap here in NZ, im a qualified joiner and on only 37k before tax. No matter what is said on the news about NZ. our economy is f**ked

my boss went over to NZ a few weeks back. went into a bike shop. there was a bike in there that we sell at work for $419, it was about $600 over there. goes to show just how much having a small population (small buying power) can have an effect on things. in a lot of cases NZ companies join up with australian companies to try and get a better price, but they have to pay extra freight charges on the small amounts that they do buy.

oh and the government doesn't take 70% of the price of fuel in NZ. it has a fuel excise which is just under 60c, and then whatever GST is. so on the $2.19 you paid the other day, the government took just under 80c.

Correct me if im wrong, but you guys pay WAY less for jap imports, yeah?

When you have a sample size in excess of 10,000,000 the numbers are fairly solid.

That said the median income is around $60,000 which does change things a bit. But still, the more things change the more they stay the same. Heck, cars are generally more efficient these days than they were and the buy in is much smaller. You can buy a brand new, quality, efficient car these days for $15k. 15 years ago a small, reliable, efficient car was....$15k.

the Australian bureau of stats quotes that the average weekly wage is around the $1300 mark.

now let me say that i dont hang around with 'dead shits' or anything of the sort.. most of my friends/ family are blue collar trades men. i have a few mates who have uni degree's and doctorates, and from what i know, out this sample demographic of friends and family, our 'average' weekly wage is not at the $1300 mark.

there must be a huge amount of people out there making massive money to pull the 'average' up to $1300 per week.

tl;dr?

i want THEIR job..

If those prices applied here, many people would have to downsize pronto.

We're so fortunate that we don't - and won't for a while...

Empire Gas (EGO) is about to open up its pipeline to extract gas form the Perth Basin (Red Gully) > the coast.

And EGO is still just 2c a share (but there are billions of shares).

A guy who holds drilling contracts with BHP and buys/sells EVOs through various importers told me to research the company before buying them.

I've been researching yes. Then my stockbroker at Bell Potter in Cairns says they're "promising" after positive drill sites in Red Gully (part of Perth Basin).

Just Google "Empire Gas Red Gully" and join the dots I suppose...

Cons are

a) native title land > elders require watertight assurances

b) shares are in the billions because venture capital had to be procured

Pros are

a) gas find is onshore rather than offshore

b) volume is comparable to Cooper

New thread for stock tips? Now if only I had a lazy 5 or 10k to invest in stocks..

Yeah Marc I see how I Got that back to front with my rant about minimum wages, more of a typo than a misread but the following story about new Zealand opened my eyes up about economies of scale.

Had no idea the difference in pop would have such a huge effect on prices even though all the goods are coming from the same factories..

I still believe in a minimum wage being decent and enough to live ok on though that might have something to do with so many of my jobs up till now being dependent on that.

Last thing we want is a tax system like the states, the rich are definitely getting richer while the poor sink even deeper into almost 3rd world conditions. No thanks, not looking forward to our next pm and his dumbo sized ears but I spose they can't do much worse..

    • 2 more things I have to work out Easy one first...can anyone describe how to pull the fuel pump and sender from a 33? I can feel there is some sort of mount and clips but don't have a manual and don't know the trick......if not I'll spend some quality time in the boot witha lighter tomorrow. Second question is harder.  He had changed the upper plenum to a plazmaman but clearly got to a point with the vacuum hoses where he said "f**k it, I'm going inside for a beer" and never came back to that job because it was a mess. Am I right to think that I need: 1. Pre throttle (16mm nipple on inlet) to AAC's main 20mm fitting as the main pre throttle feed 2. ACC has a second 13m outlet joined to that 20mm fitting which I think is the pre throttle air supply for the cold start valve? 3. Cold start valve's outlet fitting then goes to Plenum (to bypass throttle?) There is some adapter on the back of the ACC with 2 fittings (13mm and 10mm), do I run the 10mm through a 1 way valve to the Brake Booster (4) and the 13mm back to a 13mm nipple on the Plenum as the Idle control (5)? 6. Run a 6mm vacuum line from the Turbosmart BOV to the Plenum? 7. Run a 5mm vacuum line from the Fuel Pressure Reg to the Plenum? 8. Run a 5mm vacuum line from the Turbosmart Boost controller to the Plenum? (Wastegate already has a pre turbo pressure source running to the solenoid then the wastegate on the other side of the bay)  Any help appreciated, the GTR is quite different setup and while the Stagea also has FFP it is different again. (And no Dose, I'm not pissing it all off and putting a ethrottle on it....)
    • OK, onto some questions to try and speed up the process a little. Does anyone know what core this Garret is? I know it is a high flowed standard turbo but nothing else about it. Tag says OK 0169J - 446179-5032 Same question for the injectors, I don't know what they flow and ideally can work it out before it hits the dyno, they are a mustard yellow side feed
    • Quick side trip into the engine externals, alternator and PS were in place including tensioned belts, but the PS was dry (my guess is he had the steering rack reco-ed). Filled it up with Transmax Z but it will need more bleeding once the engine is running no doubt. BTW I've said before, I don't know what kind of soft animals you have in the city, but out here they breed the rats tough. I bet they were disappointed when they tasted synthetic ATF.... Coilpacks are Splitfires with a factory loom in reasonable condition. I didn't pull one put I bet the spark plugs are new as its a new engine
    • Onto intake pressure test. I have a Raceworks (damn brand thieves!) pressure test adapter that lets you apply pressure through a standard tyre valve and comes with a pressure gauge.....I just blocked off the other end immediately before the throttle body. Applied 30psi....and the turbo intake immediately popped off with a bang. Sorted that but it was still leaking, turns out there is a pinhole leak at the BOV adapter that I'll have to find a local place to TIG up. I'm sure it makes SFA difference with such a small leak but I want it to be right. Everything else up to the throttle body was good. Also cleaned and oiled the KNX cone filter, and this is the AFM if anyone can identify it (car runs a PowerFC)
    • I'll send you a message, but until I know what is OK (and anything that isn't) its kind of hard to work out a fair price. BTW I'm just helping out here, ultimately it is Mel's call what she accepts but I know it will go sooner or later.
