hi guys.. im currently doing the timing belt/waterpump job.. soon as i checked on the pulleys, i found the tensioner pulley didnt had the spring..

the 100k service was done by a reputable tuning shop =|

anyway, can someone tell me what the spring in the tensioner pulley does?

its done more than 75k after the 100k service was done..

thanks for the info, i just wanted to know..

believe it or not, i've been driving the car after i left the mechanic without the spring on the tensioner =|

i bought a timing belt kit so it includes everything..

On th RB it is used to set the inital tension of the timing belt. Once the tension is set, the bearing is done up and that takes the spring out of the picture.

Only used for setting belt tension. But they still should of left one in there for next time....

Well put Sean. Once tensioned correctly (which can be done without the spring), it is locked in place and the spring doesn't do anything.

Not exactly professional, but don't worry about it.

well....kinda. you can use the spring tensioner to set the timing belt tension as well, you are meant to put it on, turn the motor twice on the balancer and then lock it off. But I've always just set it by feel instead.

i was actually asking that of wori. . . but yeah the spring is an important part of correctly tensioning the belt otherwise the factory wouldnt have put it there in the first place
