g'day all, well i finelly found a GTR in my price range, in the condition i want and with the mods i want, before plunging in and buying it though there is an issue that i dont know how big or small it is, basicly when you run into boost and rev it out (say up to 6-7 grand) and let of the throttle, the ignition cut's out and wont respond again until the key is turned off and back on, the current owner say's he reinstalled the stock airbox and a set of tomie blow off valves without retuning the car, also it's still running the stock AFM's at around 310 awka.

is this thing a time bomb, or is this a case of a good tune to fix?

the car is running forged internals, a power FC, 2860-5 turbo's on 17.5 psi (owner say's there's also maps for 19 and 14.5 psi) unkown brand 660cc injector's (part number is , splitfire coilpacks,as well as a few others pieces.

310awkw with stock AFMs? Sounds like a hand grenade to me.

Get it checked by a professional.

would it be a case of simply getting some Z32's, or nismo AFM's and getting it tuned to fix the problem, or has the fact it's been run with stock afm's mean the damage is already done?

Yea but what do you mean by the ignition cuts out?

Pfc does not have any sort of protection???

by ignition cuts out i mean the engine will not respond, after letting off the throttle on boost at around 6-7k rpm and try to get back on the throttle theres nothing, all the dash lights, ect still work, indicators, headlights ect, turn the key off, push the clutch in and restart the engine while rolling and it's fine again until you give it another squit into boost and heavy load.

There are "maps"?

Unfortunately no there aren't. The PFC is a single map, it doesnt have dual map.

Either way as others have said, get it checked by a professional.

You are rushing into all of this in the wrong way as per your other thread.

Stop, read, learn - then do.

i dont feel as i'm rushing, i'm looking at car's, reading on here and asking questions, however i find it very difficult to learn by just reading, i cant picture what i'm looking at without actually seeing/touching/feeling it, i much prefer to see what i'm learning about in front of me, i've been lurking on here for a few months but it's only been since i started looking at car's in the flesh that i feel i'm starting to get a bit of an understanding of these beast's.

are the tomei bovs venting to atmo?

yes to atmosphere

and to the above post i havnt actually looked at to many car's, i looked at 3 yestorday, 2 r32's and a stock r33, being as i normaly work 12 hour shift 13 days a fortnight (at this time of year) it's hard to get time to drive to the big smoke to look at car's, i live in gippsland (2 hours east of dandenong)

OK that make it quite a long process,

I'm in perth and I got one from melbourne and one from adelaide, you might not find what your looking for in your town, I found the cost of going interstate was more than offset by the saving on the car.. but it sounds like a time thing a thumbsup.gif

310kw with -5's at 17.5psi..... it should be making more power than that, you would expect 330-350

If there really is a "19 psi map", that means the owner put 350-370kw of power through a pair of stock AFMs that will only support 300-310kw max. Sure you can tune around them slightly, but not that much

    • All I can say Duncan is good luck and I hope that Neil did not run any E85 in Cheryl. I have recently experienced the full spectrum of fuel tank issues in my R33's that had been caused by E85 and contaminated fuel. When you take the cover off the top of the tank and have a look inside you will get an understanding of how easy it will be. Best case situation is clean fuel with minimal contamination. My GTR was like this and it was a very simple operation to just grab the fuel pump carrier bracket and slide it up and out of the tank. My three GTS_T's had different levels of fuel contamination that was probably caused by E85 in the fuel.  In the worst case all of the metal components in the tank had rusted to the point where there were pieces of rusted metal swirling around in the tank. This required the removal of the exhaust, the tailshaft, the complete rear cradle and the fuel tank. The components in the tank were that rusted that it took days to get the fuel pump carrier and the mounting brackets out of the tank. When the tank was finally cleaned, everything inside the tank had to be replaced. With the tank all back together I could then reinstall it in the car along with everything else that had to come out. Good luck and I hope that you find a clean tank.
    • It is a two door. It is black and also still has the OEM wheels and stereo. Exact model would be KR_R32RGFEL_SS According to GTR-Registry.com is a 2 Door Coupe; RB20DE; 2WD no HICAS; MT.F5; (11L) Projector Headlamps and Fog Lights; (12_) Electronic Active Full Auto Air Con (Climate Control); (13-14SS) V Selection -- Which seems to be accurate description of my variant. Will try to upload a few pictures soon. The OEM wheels look like the below image. Image is taken from the goo-net-exchange website.
