Rb30 Z32

Hey guys, long story short, i have a spare 33 gts4 engine/5speed. Ran across rbz32.com and got me thinking about a rb30det swap into one. My only concern is bonnet clearnece with the 30 block. I know that the 25/26 are fine, but 30 being taller..?

Has anyone done this, or can find any other info besides rbz32.com that could help me out ?

I think the over the engine intake manifold hits the bonnet with the taller block.

I would get a front facing plenum. Im more worried about the cam gear cover.

This is a rb26/30 in a z32, explains what i mean...

And i really wouldnt want to have a bulge on the bonnet either...

It almost looks like the engine could drop lower by the front on photo. It would be more helpful if there was a photo showing the sump on and steering rack installed.

26 fits in perfect, even saw a 2j fit in just. Dont force me to:

I would consider that, but being my daily and the way they hand out defects lately in SA, no chance. Might have to consider the..SR20 lol.

Sr20 is not as crazy as you think, sure it wouldn't be a ball tearer torque wise but it would do a lot of good things for handling.

The more i read about it, the more im liking. I could keep the z32 box - so no need for custom tailshafts etc, just an adapter plate and new mounts for the motor. In my opinion, most cost effective sawp for sure ! Car would be a daily, and in the hills on the weekend, so might work out really well...

haha yeah you're right.

Just put an rb26 in.

Another option is to just use the vg30 engine, that is if you want a lot of practice at pulling out and reinstalling the engine.

Putting a vg30 in a z32= engine out.

Keep in mind this is a budget daily project only, because im low on cash, but have spare parts. Otherwise i wouldnt be choosing to modify this platform...

So at this stage its either a sr20 300 or a corolla lol...

I got 1 in my shed lol. Little worried about the tight fit, weight distribution and cost of upkeep compared to an sr20...

the vg30dett is a great engine, and the weight balance and short engine length works great in the z32. I don't know why you'd go to the effort of putting a smaller engine in there, especially for a daily driver.

The vg30dett is plenty reliable ensuring its maintained properly, and is a nice torquey motor. The nvcts makes it far more pleasant to drive at normal road speeds than the rb26.

also the vg30dett is plenty cheap motor to buy too. If you're going to remove the motor anyway, it's straightforward to check all wiring connections, replace all water hoses, bypass plenum hoses and remove EGR, and then it will be at least as reliable as an rb, if not more (very few reports of oil surge etc in the vg30).

Lack of tools, knowledge and space to work on the engine. Also maintenance costs.

With little weight reduction, the z32 is not too much hevier then the S chassis either.

put a bulge in the bonnet where the cam cover will hit it, do it in metal and without buchering the reo too much and the cops wont bother you

Dry sump it, get a sump made that will help you lower the engine down enough to close the bonnet. Expensive thing to do for a daily but it will look the goods
