Thats ridiculous, as everyone has pointed out the government needs to make it harder to recieve a license and that means more training courses, not just relying on mum and dad to do the right thing in teaching the kids how to drive. Really thats the basis here, they pick up on mum and dads bad habits think its ok to drive like that and it goes from there. Ive only got another 5 months until my blacks and cant wait because i see a knee jerk reaction from the government like this coming into law and causing a massive uproar.

Just because a person is on Ps, it does NOT mean that they should be penalized with curfews. What a curfew does is to restrict that driver from gaining experience. Commonsense?

Gaining one's Ps does NOT mean that one has become a qualified quality driver. It means that one has logged up time behind a wheel and passed a couple of tests. A qualified quality driver is a person who understands the car's limits, his own limits, and the marriage between the two under adverse road conditions, weather conditions and reading the traffic. Commonsense?

P drivers should be allowed to drive up to the speed limits on any carriageway. It's called "traffic flow"! Any driver who drives more than 10% higher, more than 10% lower or weaves between lanes in dense traffic upsets that flow. P drivers are part of good traffic flow and should NOT be restricted to an 80Km/hr rule in a 100 zone. Commonsense?

I don't get that rule either, if they get pulled over doing 79km/h in a 50 zone, do the cops say good on you atleast you stuck to your speed limit, it really is stupid anywhere that allows you to go over 80km/h is a highway/motorway it's not like the car is harder to control at 90 than it is at 80 on a highway,

On that note have ever seen a p plater stick to that rule, I never did, I had to drive to blacktown 2 times a week for band practise I always went 100 on the m2

Firstly, it applies to P1 License Holders, not all Provisional License Holders. Secondly, I think it's a load of bullshit. You can't take away someones freedom by limiting when they can and can't drive, it's just wrong. It's just like cutting off a birds wings and telling it, it can't fly. It's still going to try and fly, regardless. The same thing here, P Platers will just take the P Plates off and continue driving, couple it off with dark window tint and then it will become more difficult for police officers to guess the age of the driver. What are they going to do, pull everyone over? It's just madness.

I see this being a massive fail, and it's not going to improve crash statistics for younger drivers. A crash can happen anywhere, anytime regardless of what time of the day/night it is. On another note, I do agree with limiting the number of passengers in a vehicle at night to one. However, limiting the number of passengers to one all the time is just silly as well. What if people car pull to TAFE or University or something? Absolute morons.

My two cents.

EDIT: http://www.dailytele...9-1226170658974 - For reference.

EDIT2: If anything, they should commit to training programs for younger drivers, not make things even stricter but wait... that means the RTA have to get off their asses and spend money. Srsly guise.

I agree with you Terry, but it's worth mentioning that a lot of cars, esp older ones with poor suspension etc, are more difficult to handle in emergencies or adverse weather at 110km/h then they are at 80 or 90. And though people should, the average moron doesn't seem to adapt their driving for bad shocks or wet patches.

If everyone drove respectfully, responsibly and close to the speed limit everyone would get everywhere faster. Only people who are passionate about driving actually realise this though closedeyes.gif

As a person with a full licence, I'm more terrified getting in the car with my friends who are fully licenced compared to the P Plater friends I have.

In a general sense, I see more full licenced drivers running red lights, not stopping at STOP signs, speeding, tail gating etc.

I'd rather see stricter testing, and tougher policing.

As a 17 year old OPEN LICENSE driver,

i respect what the government is doing,

but they're definitely not doing it the right way.

Side note; I dont see how a 17yo can be a fully licenced driver. Care to explain please?

EDIT: Just to confirm, by open license you mean no P plates and no L plates with the maximum available of 12 demerit points on your license?

You can't take away someones freedom by limiting when they can and can't drive, it's just wrong.

Unfortunately that IS the case, Government can do what they like.

For example, if you're caught DUI they take your license away. So the precedent is set, they're just trying to extend it a bit.

In saying that, I'm not supporting or condemning their actions :)

I thought that too

DUI is understandable. :nyaanyaa:

At the end of the day, they'll just end up creating more problems for themselves as well as succeed in stirring up a select population. The Government and the RTA need to learn that they're not going to save everyone. Accidents will happen regardless of whatever restrictions are imposed, and preventing younger drivers from experiencing certain hours of the night isn't going to help.

Just my extra two cents. Lol

EDIT: While they're at it, they should be imposing restrictions on elderly drivers (75+) because they're more at risk than P Platers IMO because of their slower reflexes and fragility and the like.

But but... I don't think I'm a spastic :(

After reading what's under you avatar.... i wonder...

Think of it this way. If you were on youre probationary license, would you want this done to you?

D_I_F youre being very harsh. When I was on my P's I remember that fridays and saturdays were my main time of work. Essentially youre taking a income away from these young inexperienced drivers.

This state is rediculous. Actually this country is rediculous on how they handle their roads. NSW roads are shocking to drive on, yet they take in so much money *for safety* from speed cameras. Their doing it all wrong. Im not saying I can do it better. But I know other countrys do it better.

Finland for example. Some of you might know that they love their rally driving and some of the best drivers come from there.

There you have to have a experienced drivers course, and sit one of the hardest driving tests to get your license. Why are they good drivers with a low road toll? Because they took the steps to build a level of required expertise they want from their drivers. Rather than giving a license to every dick head. Sorry every dick head here and there. Then they say oh no no youre all not up to scratch so now were going to take away youre privelages.

Thats all bullshit.

Can you imagine the impact it would have on all young drivers if they actually had to do a advanced driving course and sit a very stringent driver test.

Sir, consider this my "LIKE button to your post

I hope this dose not come into play,

My wife is a p-plater and needs to drive a night.

Who will pick me up from the pub?

Relax!!! this curfew ENDS AT 5 O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING!!!!!, you get to stay out longer.... hheeelloooooo!!!! WIN!!!

that is all.

Lol how is this going to work and is the gov going to divert the police from the troublesome night spots just to catch p platers flouting the crazy laws???

This and a billion other recommendations and laws sound like they are being made up purely for the sake of bureaucrats trying to justify keeping their jobs...

I still stand by ute drivers, bmw druvers and vehicles with the southern cross sticker to be the most wanly drivers

about.

16% of drivers are p platers, 25% of accidents, not to mention inexperience being the main factor but also what is the first thing you do hen you get your licence??? Go out for a drive, what do you do for the next 3 years doing with your new found freedom????? Go out driving for the sake of driving. The more you are on the road the more chance you will have an accident... Simple really... I would be extremely surprised If the average p plater spends less time driving than the average middle aged person....

But why do I care, I got off my p's years ago.

Also left the country months ago...

I like Italy's unwritten speeding laws, the police will only pull you over if they think your speed is dangerous,

ie: the highway limit is 130km/hr, if you are doing between 131-150ish you won't get a fine from a fixed or point to point camera. If you are doing umder 180 and a hand held radar gets you and you are in a High performance car, the copper will tell you off for not going faster...

And we all know how Germany is with their liberal speeds... And these counties still have less percentage of road deaths than Australia and the UK even with their nazi like curfews and rules. Although italy has a heap more minor prangs, mainly because of congestion and people not following the road markings...

Good, less idiots on the road. I hate driving on weekends that's when all the spastics come out..

The idiots are the 9-5ers who sit in an office all day and catch public transport all week and simply forget how to drive by the time the weekend comes.

And I don't like how you use the word "spastics" in that way... Poor effort

Thats all well and good Tom, but compare an Autobahn to the M4.

You also dont see shitbox VL's with chopped springs and 25year old shocks on them either...its all relative.

Also...Will somebody please tell ACT govt. to ban P-platers from turbos

Best thing NSW/VIC and QLD ever did imo...and banning P-platers from Friday nights would be the 2nd best thing, We all know what we got up to on friday nights when we first got a licence...it either involved maccas trays or line locks...

You clearly have not driven In these countries. The autobahns are not as good as we think they are, they are maintained better most of the part but not always, and the M4 is a much better high speed road than most autobahns.

And no they don't have shit box vls with chopped springs, they have all sorts of cars (shit and good) with chopped springs and old suspension....

But why would anyone turn an internal city motorway Into an unlimited road???? That doesn't make sense, the Hume highway for a lot of it could be done. But then the gov will use re animal road kill excuse not to do it again... Like Europe doesn't have any wild animals venturing onto the roads...

Good idea but thought needs to be put itn for workers and people giving lifts, theres to many hectic kernts going blockies, and with no good driver training they are a danger to themselves and others, I was the same when I was young though and have a few dead friends because they were doing stupid shit without knowing how to control a car or motorbike adequately.

Also, for all the people against this idea, how much driving experience do you have, and have you done any advanced driver training.

Or are you to cool for school and know it all.

Me, 30 yrs driving cars, trucks /trailers, heavy plant and motorbikes, my licence is HR, R, I've completed the "drive to survive' course and I'm also a assistant driving instructor with defence, and I'm still learning.

    • Hey guys. I have a 400R on its way to Australia from Japan currently and have a few questions I’m hoping others may be able to help with.   Wondering if anyone here has had any luck getting the Sat nav unit to work in Australia!? Assuming the Stereo is as simple as a band expanded and tv won’t work?  Seeing as they’re based off a Q50 which is Aus delivered is there any way to link that system to the nav? Nav modules and head unit are different part numbers and appear slightly different at the rear with plug ins etc. can I put my xtrail sd card into the rv37 and will that convert the maps or update to Australian? Has anyone got any advice here?     also has anyone fitted the factory remote start and Security system once it’s landed in Australia? I put an enquirey to Nissan Japan in via a third party, and they suggested it needs a Nissan Japan dealers device to setup and couldn’t guarantee if one here could do it or not. They can supply and I can physically fit it but to setup I would need a dealers device. Any information here would be appreciated also. I’ve seen one here with it fitted already prior to leaving Japan at a dealer/inporter, so clearly passes compliance and works when fitted Japan and doesn’t need changing here.      also, does the tyre inflation sensors work here? Does anything change with them when the vehicle arrives? Where are they actually situated? I’ve read they have batteries and they need to changing at times and seems like resetting involves the nav system?    any help here would be appreciated and any other aust specific information to help would be great. Looking forward to see what the current generation skyline is like and eager to see how many of the gadgets can be utilised here.  Thanks in advance
    • Do need to take it with a pinch of salt. One of the adapter failures, they clearly had setup issues with the flywheel.  One of the slipping ones I spoke to and it was pretty clear the throwout was riding, rather than fix, just swapped to a new clutch.    These clutches are being put in anything from 5k offroad 4x4 beaters, GR yaris, 500hp commodores to 1200hp barra monsters. Bound to be some issues in some of them when they are not a simple bolt in affair due to the changes in height.    There is a lot going on in this picture and unless I did the job myself no way to tell what really happened.
    • I did this mod in 2019  You just have to modify the top bracket of the ABS/TC/Fuel Pump Control ECU so it sits more upright and closer to the back seat and run a good quality positive battery lead from the engine bay, the negative lead i just bolted down to the body in the boot.
    • Damn... Not the feedback I want to hear.
