Gt Worth It?

Gday guys,

Just joined this site, been following it for a while... finally got my license back so can only get a GT unfortunately.. Wondering wat u think of me payin 10k for a GT manual? Its got a couple of physical problems with it ( paint spots from being egged) but apart from that nothin 2 serious... considering i cant get a turbo. Gettin an RAA check 2day so if it comes up all good do u think its worth 10k? 135000km btw

I can put pics up of it, plus what i plan 2 do 2 do 2 it

But yeh any suggestions, whether its not worth wasting my money on it or how much it'll cost to make it look good/ perform happy to hear any advice.. tbh no idea about the mechanics of cars just love my skylines n always have

Remember I'll unfortunately b on my Ps for another 4/5 years so was thinking maybe keep this car fall in love with it and when I'm able to put a turbo on it, if its worth it?.. any advice would be appreciated

In all honesty... I'd buy something horribly boring, but cheap, reliable, and disposable. Save some coin, then when you get your licence back, see what tickles your fancy, and splash out.

No point settling for GT when what you really want is a GT-t, it'll never be as good.

I'd just wait. Also note that spending like 1k on performance mods to a non turbo one will have the same effect as a $30 bleed valve off eBay and running an extra 2psi through it...

But if you really can't wait, looks like you'll have to settle with a non turbo.

Edit: adding a turbo to a non turbo one won't make it gt-t spec either. Brakes, gearbox, often interior, just to name a few are different.

$10k for what an R34 GT?

but yeah probably not worth it, and it has hotplate rear lights with out the fluttorz police will still be wanting to pull you over

im pretty sure there is only 1 gear box your final drive ratio will be different though, but not worth it to make it a turbo later on

Welcome... that's not to bad of a price at least you have a Skyline so that's is a start.

I would personally hold off getting the GT if I were you mate. Just bite your time and wait till you can drive turbo cars and by then GTR's would have come down a fair bit price wise. So instead of getting a GT-T at that stage you would be able to get a GTR at a very good price.

If you still want something fun than look at something like a MX5, or similar. They are fun cars to drive too

theres a nicer kind of gt you can get... not for 10k but bit of saving and you'll be getting a newer/nicer car then a 34 could ever be... 350gt skyline

buy some 4 cyl, toyotota/honda/nissan/mazda(read dependable car ) for 5k, insure it, and alarm it , then bank the rest for a GTR when your off "P"s

your 10k budget didnt allow for insurance, alarms, and any worn out items, or the stress of being pulled over nonstop on P's

Do this, be smart now and you will have a better car later, or, buy a GT now which you will lose money on, there are some quick little P plate friendly cars you can get for under 5 k, you don't need a lot of power, a GT doesnt have any Power anyway, to fat and underpowered, better of with a lighter shorter wheel base car you can learn to drive in at motorkhanas and stuff which will not break the bank.

A NA S13 would be good IMO.

It's got a few Ks on it but if its been serviced it should alright.

350's are more than likely not legal if our rules are anything like the eastern states, they're classed as high performance vehicles.

I agree....last thing you want is a slow boat that attracts the wrong attention for all the obvious reasons

My personal opinion......a Skyline is not a Skyline without a snail hanging off it.

Save your dosh now and buy what Skylines were made famous for (in 4/5 years).......GTR!!

I know exactly what you're all saying because I've always wondered is it really a skyline if it's not turbo...

However I've always wanted a R34 GTR but I obviously can't drive one for another 4-5 years. I love the look of the R34 and since it is only really 10k isn't it worth it? I'd be paying more for an outdated model commodore. I get what you're saying about the silvia but IMO they dont really compare to a R34, whats the difference in power? I've accepted the fact that most cars I'm going to buy are not going to have a ridiculous amount of power and I'll always be wishing it was a turbo and I've got 4-5 years of this so really I'm not going to have a powerful car for a long time anyway.

And I've driven the cheap cars all my life so just want something I can take care of if you kno what I mean? Would most of the parts I buy for it fit a GTR anyway? I don't really know heaps about cars which is why I think having something that I'm going to be taking care of and slightly modifying will be good so I can learn as I go.. Is the makeup of the GT and GTR fairly similar?

Convertible as summer is around the corner, I have driven a mates MX5 and they are absolutely awesome to drive. Fun little cars and under 10K. This should serve you well for 4-5 years
