Nah not boydy dude, THE BOSS. The mrs, the minister for war and finances etc etc

Thanks Cal, it is an awesome turbo I'm pretty stoked with it. Having said that though I think the total package with the plazmaman has a lot to do with it too.

.................................Plus the tuner :)

Thanks guys, I just cant get over how smooth and responsive this turbo feels.

It actually gets onto boost better than my HG highflow, btw Hamish we were referencing your graph last night when we first had dramas so thanks man haha

lol no worries

Injectors won't handle it I'm afraid. Hamish' 555's are freakish

yeah, i'm not sure what the go is there...

Removing the cat??????? Dunno what your talking about :) :)

Yeh solved all the dramas, it looked sweet as when we looked through it, but when we had it out Boydy gave it a shake and you could hear it rattling around.

It was the tuners decision to "fix" it.

Told you I'd blame you Jez ;)

Never had a cf coil cover, got a billet vented one from the states that Craved coated. I have a cf radiator air guide thingy but I'm having all kinds of trouble getting a nice fit on it so I'm gonna get the sander out, also have a cf bonnet but it's fouling on the strut brace so it's been swapped for the factory one, probably a blessing in disguise cause it will be my daily for a bit so it's more stealth standard. Looks bloody nice though.

Dave finally gets car tuned..

So clarify for me, removing the cat solved everything?

What happened to the CF coil cover..?

Yep. Its a highflow cat now. 1cell.

1st run made 210kw and had a slight ping.

2nd run made 93kw with less timing

3rd run more boost 145kw

Then started the diagnosing. Dropped exh from front of cat and made 195 with low timing but still a little laggy.

So we pulled the dump pipe off and it looked like the wastegate flap wasnt sealing, so abit of emery paper cleaned it up.

Now the boost was nice and responsive and we could start tuning

Congratulation to you and more to your tuner. I'm really happy to read this. That's some thing when a experienced tuner with the correct knowledge whom can diagnostic the problem and rectify it on the spot.

Those tuners can get you the result or at least pin point the problem that will make the difference. Some other tuners would tell you to go home with 210rwkws.

At one stage I thought I was going home with 90kw

Wouldve given a hyundia Getz a bloody good run though.....

But in all seriousness I don't think Jez was going to let me leave until it made the numbers.

He is very dedicated to getting the tune right

Got the car cleaned up and I'm ready for the show in the morning, also got the cooling panel on after much sanding and drilling.

If anyone in Sydney is around Liverpool in the morning come by and say gday.

Corner of the Hume and memorial ave.

I'm going to bed.

Congrats on the results! Thats great you guys found the problem and sorted it out there and then and got it tuned! At that time I know alot of people would just give up and leave it for another day!

Top effort!

Thanks Michael,

Jez and Boydy deserve all the credit on this one. I'm good at bolting everything together and basic trouble shooting but Jez is pretty switched on and was suspicious of the cat very early on.

I probably confused him a bit by saying that km wise it was not very old (the car is off teh road more than on lol)

Had a good drive of it today for a car show and man it goes good, I'm very happy with the setup. I can't fault this turbo one bit.

I'm sure the tune is also a big part of it though :)

    • As I mentioned in an earlier post, I had some trouble with the Silvia's brakes dragging back in 2023. I managed to sort it out then, but the same problem came back to bite me late last year. Just take a look at the picture – I had a feeling the handbrake was acting up again, and I was right. Anyway, I'd been wanting to upgrade to bigger brakes for a while. Not that the Silvia's brakes were bad, but it was more of a "want" than a "need", you know? It was funny, though – at the time, I couldn't find any Evo Brembos, 350Z Brembos, or GTR Brembos for a decent price (of course, tons of them popped up online after I already bought my kit!). I ended up going with an F50 Brembo kit, which came with adapters, brake lines, 330mm rotors, and top hats. The F50 Brembo caliper was used in a few other cars too, like the FPV. I also decided this was the perfect opportunity to ditch the Silvia's ridiculous rear brakes and that awful handbrake (some of you were definitely right about that!). I picked up some R33 calipers and all the necessary bits – rear drums, backing plates, and new hardware to refurbish the calipers. Of course, it wouldn't be a project without a few hiccups. Turns out the brake master cylinder was playing up and basically (to put it simply) keeping the brakes engaged. I had it overhauled, and after some adjustments, everything was working again. The whole process took a while, as you can imagine. To top it off, the front right wheel bearings were shot and needed replacing too. This is a rare occasion where I'm posting an update while it's all still fresh! These pictures were taken just this afternoon.
    • I was just going to say that it's good to see you picking up the pace again. Hope the surgery goes well. More downtime just means more time to come up with new ways of digging a deeper rabbithole
    • How do they compare in size? I have the Yaris coil packs in mine and they work fine. But they are either bigger or sit differently so the engine cover doesn't fit anymore. Not the end of the world but not great either. Do the R35 ones sit flush?
    • Righto,  enough of ADHD Anonymous! 🤣🤣 Rear end is completely stripped out apart from coil overs that will take 5 minutes.  Fingers crossed it doesn't look like that for too long!   Cleaning up some bits as I go so they can go straight back on. It amazes me how good stuff looks just with a good hard scrub! That will be it for a couple of weeks. I've got ot a bit of surgery Friday that will put me out of action for a few weeks. Hopefully the motivation is still there when I'm ready to get back into it!
    • The povo spec CA18S one, yeah. All turbos had 16x6.5 5 stud and 4pot brakes.
