What Oil?

Hi, Just wondering what oil I put in the rear resevior of my R32 GTR? Is it for the Attessa?

I have checked the oil in the rear resevior and it smells alot like gear oil. I thought it was meant to have automatic transmission fluid. Is this right? Also how do I drain it and refill it? Any help would be appreciated.

Is the rear reservoir you talking about, on the right hand side, covered up by a side panel, in the boot?

If so, I believe that is the HICAS.

It's the ATTESSA awd system pump reservior, RHS in boot. Nissan matic D.

The Power steering reservior under the bonnet, behind the airbox does the front and rear steering racks (HICAS), due to the dual pump, power steering pump. Power steering fluid.

(R33 and 34s run single power steering pump and electric power steering at the back).

From memory when my HICAS light came up, my mechanics topped up that reservoir with a little bit of Power Steering fluid to the MAX Level Line and all was good.

Light never came back on.

So I assume it's Power Steering fluid...

Got a price for the matic D, $61 from nissan 4 or 5 litres.

Still not sure wether to top it up with it because if the oil in it is gear oil I don't want to mix them.

I just use Castrol autotrans fluid, which is red. Also, you need to have the ignition ON before you check the level in the ATTESSA reservoir.

If it's just for a top up, just use a bit of gear oil (Or whatever you think is there at the moment).

Won't hurt it.
