Hey guys,

Just wondering what a ballpark figure of an engine rebuild is (non turbo) I did a quick search but didn't really find anything. I understand that to narrow it down you need how many k's and what engine etc. but just looking for like I said a ballpark figure. Regarding the rebuild itself don't want it to race spec or anything just to bring it back to basically stock.

Cheers, Tristan.

Sorry should have elaborated more by pistons I meant pistons + rings and maybe a rebore. Just trying to gauge cost because next year I will be buying a skyline and want to do a few mods (cams, exhaust and a tune) but didnt want to do them unless i knew the engine would cope so I figured I'd look into the cost of a rebuild.

Take it from me I had an Rb25de r34 spent soo much money when I was on my p's seriously don't bother I have owned my 34 gtr now for 6 months and that was money well spent don't bother trying to recondition an engine like that unless your reason is to keep it for 30 years and display it as a classic just buy a gtt or gtst and spend the money on that even if your on a restricted license which i assume you are just build a rb25det and drag it or track it. That's just my two cents don't pay any attention to me that's just my regret.

Any current issues? Knocks? Burning oil? Low comp? If no, there is no reason to do a rebuild. aka if not broke, don't fix it

If planing to do a big build later buy a motor already done or a second motor and go nuts the first time,

if you want just a little bit more power later drop in a det and upgrade the turbo and cams for the rev range your mostly going to use

if your still keen to do a basic rebuild a light hone and crank linish with new rings and bearings minimum. new pistons if light hone doesn't clean up

/my 2 cents

Been there done that. I had to because i had to start using 40W70 grade oil and all 5 liters would blow out after 500km anyway so it was gettting expensive.

Cost me about $4000 and i work for Nissan (Cost pice of parts) and did the labour with my uncle (9 months, most of it was waiting for parts). Someone to pay retail and labour i recon i could see it being $7000-$8000. Also If your going to reboar and hone good luck getting new pistons for a NA. I know i can order them but only to turn your car to 2.7L and they are $3000 for the set with rings. it will cost you about $3000 just for other parts and its going to take a while to get the parts

90mm bore? to get 2.7L with a 25 crank?

RB25 crank 73.7 or am i wrong :S ???

i know the calculation for the volume of a cylinder then converted into Liters i remember it being just over 2650cc but if i am wrong about the stroke (what the mechanic told me who was honeing and boaring the engine) then un-happy days.

2.7 on a standard crank ? That's asking for trouble.

I doubt it will have any mechanical problems for 1000's of km's. It runs better than it would have from the factory

RB25 is 71.7

RB26 is 73.7

so maybe you have a 26 crank inside?

and the RB26 is 2568cc from factory

AHK ok

maybe, i would have ot ask. The invoice only says 2nd hand crank 40,000km, engine gasket set, pistons ETC ETC ETC. its only a basic hand writen invoice.

If so its can you fit Rb26 cranks in?

3.1416/4x75.69x7.37x6=2629(about, i never calculated it it just says 2.7L build on the invoice)

26 Crank needs 26 pistons (pin height is different due to the longer stroke)

Ok then cheers.

ill have to ask but. It took months to source parts and there were 3 of us looking. The guy who rebuilt the engine did most of the sourcing for the bottom end and rebuilt it as it was in his workshop for 6 months waiting. The only thing i didnt have anything to do with was the block, i just pulled it out and took it down the road to his shop and put it back in wih crank and pistons already in there. By that time i was tired of the rebuild because i couldnt get the 4WD sump onto a normal rb25 for a easy fix. Theory is what ever you think it will cost then times that by about 10 ;)
