Understanding Lsd

hey all

pls help me understand something, I have a s2 R33 gtst, thought they all came with lsd as standard. Since fitting bc coilovers i have noticed coming out of steep driveways etc where one rear wheel is off ground temporarily, the free wheel spins like mad and the one on the ground still doesn't move when giving it some throttle. I thought lsd was to transfer traction to wheel with most grip (eg one on ground still) or am I way off? Did search but didn't find any answer

If you go very slowly, once you hit the free wheeling point what happens? Does the car continue to go forwards or does it roll back?

If it rolls back you have an open diff.

If it keeps going forwards slowly then you have a viscous LSD, this is better than an open diff but pretty average in the LSD stakes. viscous LSD is the minimum standard offering on all turbo skylines.

viscous LSD needs a speed difference between the wheels before it does anything. a clutch type LSD needs applied torque from the driveshaft to do anything. torsen LSDs multiply the torque from the side with less traction to the side with more traction, so in the free-wheeling case you must apply some resistance to the free spinning wheel (slight pressure on the brakes) to get the diff to work and drive you over the obstacle.

I guess it keeps going forward ever so slightly...feels like it doesn't move though, like it just rolls forward on momentum until other wheel connects with the ground again.
