hey guys just put some NGK R5671A-8 spark plugs in that my mate recommended me to use & now my ecu hand controller is spazzing out coming up with all weird readings on it. it also was blowing some smoke with black liquid out.

why would this be?

engine is an rb25/30det conversion with gt3076r, aftermarket ecu bla bla bla

any help would be great

cheers luke

Nope everything runs fine, just cant read eveything on the ecu due to everything going weird. & blowing some smoke out the exhaust!

I put my old plugs back in & the issue isn't happening now. The ecu wouldn't need tuning for these plugs would it?

just looked up the part number on those plugs. they are a non resistor type plug, so they may be interfering with the ecu.

taken from the ngk website

Resistor type spark plug’s incorporate an internal resistor to suppress ignition noise generated during sparking. The ignition noise which is often known as either electromagnetic interference (EMI) or radio frequency interference (RFI) can disrupt electronic communication signals, effecting the performance of sound systems, cellular phones, two-way radios and even engine management systems.

As EMI or RFI can also cause premature failure to other electronic components in a modern vehicle, it is important that resistor spark plugs are used to prevent this possibility.

Put simply, when a spark is formed it creates a mini-earthquake in the electronic world; the internal resistor in a spark plug filters out the noise created that may affect electrical components.

long story short, if it all works fine with your old plugs, just get some new ones of them if you want new plugs.

hmm yeah that makes sense now. they worked fine in my mates rb25 maybe because his is series 1 & mines series 2?

i was told the ones i had are crap due to my engine chewing through plugs every 2000ks witch is very expensive in the long run.... cheers for the info mate

anyone recommend any good plugs to use other then these??? lol

cheers
