series 1 horn on a series 2 r32? and you are also missing the chrome lip on the front bar!

You dont fool me :P

Liking the optional knee rest

If I was looking for a clean r32 i would pay $10k but not everyone is interested in a clean r32 :(

With the changes to P-Plate laws (in victoria) first car buyers cant own turbo cars and that would have been the best market to target. You are now targetting full license drivers who have a bit more money to buy something more powerful/newer and will overlook the r32 gtst even if its in perfect condition. If they are interested in a r32, they would buy a GTR for example.

R32 GTST enthusiasts are a dieing breed, no one spends the time/money to maintain them and no one is keen to start. My opinion, hold onto it because is an extra $7000 in the pocket worth the loss of such a mint condition car?

Im stuck with my r32 until it rusts away :P

If you have any info about the LED's used for the climate control and dash, please PM me. Would like to replace mine :)

Hey Mate,

Thanks for the input, its good to see some honest thoughts.

Yea, the front bar for some reason looks slightly differnt to most GTS-T's, very strange, I have no clue what the previous owner was thinking.

Also, the steering wheel is a series 2 wheel, with a series 2 horn. The GTS-T and the GTR (series 2), are identical, except one comes with a 'S' emblem and the other the 'GTR' leather one, lol.

It was a bitch to find one in excellent condition, so I cant be picky!

Yea, the kneepads are good, also have the outside small rainguards on the windows (no in the pic) and some of the other 'optional' extras (which I had them all, I want the boot - towel rack!)

Yea, the same rules in NSW for P-platers with Turbos, and most full license drivers will want a bigger / faster car, but I am sure the quality of mine will win someone over eventually, considering its a really honest and great car.

Ill message you about bulbs later, as I actually do have info for you

Nothing weird about the front bar. It is a series 2 front bar (found on 1991-1993 r32's) I have the same front bar.

(60th anniversary 1993)

What's missing on yours is the chrome lip which sits ontop.

Refer to pic of my chrome lip. This lip slides onto those notches you have on the front bar.

Series 1 GTST has the shiney plastic horn button

(note the blue dash found on series 1 model)

Series 2 GTST has the material/vinyl horn button

(note the series 2 seat material and grey dials on the dash)

Attached is a photo from my 1989 Skyline R32 brochure for proof :)

Barely anyone would pick up the differences (let alone any fussy r32 owner) so i wouldnt worry haha

If you could PM me details about the LED's that would be great.

Cheers

I'd only noticed the difference in trim around the head unit/AC area. (flat black vs grey textured).

I would be willing to pay 9-10K for that car however if i hadn't already found mine. Love the colour and the condition is immaculate..

Yea, It's amazing how many small things they changed over the years, and the variations of the material and colours. I think the suede material for my seats matches the door trims and carpet perfectly. I do see what he meant about the series 1 / series 2 steering wheel. I remember ages ago seeing an OLD steering wheel which came on the R32, it looks aweful, I think it might have come only on the GTS version (it looks really boxy and old compared to the series 1/2 shown here, I remember seeing it somewhere on the forum which it outlined all of the optional extras)

Absolute pain getting a steering wheel, gearknob and handbrake in the same material without being worn to oblivion or swapped with a cheap version from Repco or Supercheap.

Would be great to keep the R32 forever, but I would like to get something slightly newer to accommodate a family eventually (but still sporty looking).

Awesome stuff thanks for the info. Hope you like the bulb info for your dash surround and climate control unit I sent you :P

cheers brah

Talking to some people who work in the auto industry, car manufacturers also make a lot of revisions between series' which arent as obvious as trim. I have a theory that they may have changed the glue/adhesive holding the dash down. Anyone had any dash bubbles in a 1991-1993 model r32? So far I havent developed any dash bubbles and car has been sitting in the sun for 5yrs+ in Australia....

/offtopic

i think around at bare min i would take 8.5 for it. else ill just keep it. Spent over 13k for the car plus upgrades so anything less is too much of a loss.

You would be doing quite well if you got that for it. Someone might pay that for it but you would have to be prepared to wait a long time. The only way you would get that kind of money is from someone on the forums who knows their sht.

Good luck though. It reminded me of my first car which I think I sold for $10.5k about 2 years ago...

  • 2 weeks later...

Hey thanks for the reply and info mate, sorry about my late reply.

Yea I have decided that after January I will be putting the car up for sale / trade to see what I can get for it. It will have rego and small imperfections I still noticed fixed.

I managed to replace the entire Dash, Dash Surround, Climate Control and other items (ignition barrel, cigarette lighter, etc) bulbs changed for LED's. So it looks really nice now.

Ive started another topic where I am looking to buy an R34, so if you know anyone who is selling their R34, or would would like to trade (plus extra cash for the difference), that would be cool :P

Thanks for all of the input so far guys. :P

    • So now doing the change and first time dealing with rb so little nervous giving engine power and potential for screwing it up When you align all marks and then remove crank bolt, timing move little I assume you can put the bolt back in once you have removed the pully to get timing to where you want? here is pic of my both intake and exchust cam aligned, depending on angle you look they seem to be either aligned or a half tooth or so out. Any thoughts? Should you angle your face and look at each mark that way as if looking straight rather than from above as it can be misleading https://ibb.co/ZpnhcvbF https://ibb.co/4wm2wn4q
    • Thanks for the reply @GTSBoy Haven't really thought of that yet, but you are right. If the hose was damaged it should be absolutely pissing by now. I'll put some heat sleeve around it for good measure since I'm already removing the line anyway. Maybe I'll put on some of the stock hardlines if I ever fully remove the turbos again. Maybe when T51R modding the compressor housings? Might be a fun mod on GT28s for that "fake single turbo" effect.
    • Update 1: I did some work on the car already before finalizing this post and my "issues" list. I dropped the Tomei exhaust in favor of the HKS Hi Power Silent. Sounds nice and I can actually hear myself think now. Also gives me a realistic chance to legally drive without silencer inserts. A bit of cheating was necessary to still be able to mount the Top Secret style diffuser. Some malusage of washers and a bit of "convincing" toward the brackets and exhaust hanger seemed to do the trick. The shaky steering wheel has been resolved as various suspension components were worn, like sway bar bushings and link bars. Most notably the two steering tie rod ends. Had some trouble finding bushings because my sway bars are not OEM thickness, 23.x up front and 27 rear. But non adjustable, so no aftermarket I suppose. Maybe they are nismo units? Turbo oil drain hoses were definitely still the originals and are new now. Wasn't the cause of the turbo oil leak sadly. Currently removing the rear turbo because of it, I suspect the braided oil feed line is the culprit. This issue needs to be dealt with so I can work towards actually getting the turbo setup legal and inspected. Two new issues to add to the list as well. Rear Main seal is probably leaking. Time will show how bad it is, I don't really want to drop the gearbox right now just for the stupid seal. Could fix a few other things in one go once I do that. Front right driveshaft grease is going past the cv boot, so at some point I'll fix that too.
    • Ok so no 4cyl clutch... Yeah it is a factory manual. So if iam correct i need clutch and flywheel too? I can use something that suits something like R32 GTST? EDIT: https://www.ebay.com/itm/224291042776 Is this ok? EDIT2: i maybe forget to mention this(dk how important it is) but the trans will be behind RB25DET NEO(iam doing swap) It will be there for a little while. Iam planing to do bigbox or BMW tranny..
    • You're probably right about that one. Thanks for your suggestions, I hope I don't need a new 3rd brake light. Although wiring issues might arguably be worse. Right now I'm in the midst of a turbo removal because of my oil leak, other problems are going to have to wait for now.
