Hi all

just wondering what this thing is attached to the brake master cyclinder assembly....some sort of adjustment. its attached to a bracket to the upper strut bar. is it standard? what does it do?

clicky

also i have noticed a sudden drop if fuel efficiency, from like 450km/tank to around 380km/tank. nothing has changed (i.e driving style, mods) and just had a recent service. I have noticed that petrol fumes/heat haze can be seen being emitted from the fuel cap in my drivers mirror whilst driving....this can't be good. I have also been told that the fuel cap cover (the unscrewable one) is not standard.

could it be simply a problem of the fuel cap not fitting correctly, or is it a more serious problem.

any info would be muchly appriciated

p.s. stock as a rock manual 95 r33 gtst

kthanxbye

thanks for the replys. yep a brake cylinder brace makes perfect sense. i just uscrewed that thread and the bluey anodised bit is like a cradle. cool btw, it is a nismo strut brace, but i have never seen the brake brace b4.

the fuel thing still has me worried. it seems like the fuel cap doesn't fit right.

does anyone, or could anyone take a photo of the stock fuel cap for me, so i can see if mine is original or not. It has nissan written on it, but now i'm not sure because i have been told that it isn't a skyline cap.

but i will try resetting the ecu later this weekend and see if it does anything

thanks again for the help, muchly appriciated

The fuel filler opening is changed as part of compliance. Many say that depending on who complies them, some use a crappy sealant that disolves over time. This could explain the vapour you can smell/see. Worth a look.

re the bad fuel economy, was a change of fuel filter, air filter, plugs and a reset of the factory ecu all done in the recent service you mentioned?

ok i will check out the cap situation more. Is it possible to buy a new replacement? or shall i just search wreckers?

re the service, it was just a complete oil change everywhere, a lube up and a general check to get the 100% health tick. nothing needed changing so we didn't change them.

A faulty oxygen sensor could also make your fuel economy go up the shit.

But definitaly get the vapour out of fuel cap checked out by a qualified mechanic.

Put your ecu in diagnostic mode and see if it picks up anything. Do a search to fing out how this is done, sorry never did it myself.

The brace is definatly a custom job looking at the way it's tacked onto the strut brace bracket. Even the way the bracket is shaped makes me think that is custom to suit the master cylinder brace. Weird.

As for the fuel issues you may want to swap the cap over for starters to make sure that it's not stuck open and venting all the time.

Also check your charcoal canister (black cylinder on the passenger side front corner of the engine bay) as thats there to absorb the petrol smell, and the lines running to it. You may have a blockage somewhere that is causing pressure to build up in the tank and vent from there rather than running through the canister.

Your reduced fuel economy has got me stuffed though

    • Thanks for the info. The only "Issue" I've had with the shifter is I always found the throw between 4th and 6th gear too close. I'm always worried to shift into 4th accidently and sending my motor to the moon. Adam LZ recently came out with a video and stated Serialnine revised their shifters to correct this and will change all the revised parts for 150$. Strangely enough, I contacted Serialnine right after and they denied it and said it's bullshit. I found that strange as he's a distributer. I'll keep this forum post updated on that saga.
    • Yep that is correct. It allows you to adjust the short throw range from what I can tell
    • Car has been running great, I've put about 300km's of break in time on it. First thing that stands out with properly sealing rings is no more noticeable crankcase smell coming out of my catch can. This may seem insignificant, but the constant smell while driving around was infuriating. It's also nice to see my oil level remain stable. Two new issues have developed that I only noticed this weekend though. There's a very noticeable driveline vibration past 100kmh. I only noticed it now as I've been babying it under 100kmh in the backroads. This comes as no surprise as I'm running a one-piece shaft, and I paid zero attention to my driveshaft angle when I put everything back in. I also have a fair bit of voltage drop on hot starts. The starter audibly is forcing. No issues on cold start though. I must not have removed all the paint under my main block ground during assembly. I'll try and take care of both those issues this week once the kids are asleep.  I also received all the parts I was missing for my direct port setup. I will hopefully have pictures of that up soon. I'm hoping to get back on the dyno the week of June 30th as I'll be on vacation. I'm confident I should be able to make north of 500rwkw on pump gas and WMI. I'll go back again later this summer with E98, but I want to confirm my ethanol content sensor is working properly first. I've never seen it read anything but 11%. This makes sense for our 10% ethanol content pump gas here, but I would expect the occasional movement between fill ups.
    • 75% complete. Will now need to get a new axle with 5x114.3 hubs and then figure out how to customize some mudguards for it once the wheels are on.
    • Trailer prep is underway... Lined up the wheel to get a rough indication of how it would sit Then removed all the bits (as far as possible) and gave the frame a light sand and quick lick of paint   Then added some carpet
