R33 Ecu Help

can someone please let me know if i can use a r33 series 2 manual ecu to start my auto r33 series 2 ? The reason i ask is i am waiting to recieve my auto ecu but would actually like to get the car started before hand. A mate has given me his to try for the time being.

It may start, but I don't think you'll be able to go anywhere as the auto shifting logic is within the ECU

Thanks I have found a lot of info on auto' ecu's going into manuals but not the other way around I really want to get my car going again......
