svarl
hey guys, just a quick question im proberly moving from ACT to WA in about 1.5 months as my dad is getting a transfer via his work, now what i am wondering is i have a rx7 with a fair bit of work done most notable being a surge tank and big fuel pump (both hidden under car, and also a high mount turbo with ext wastegate and screamer pipe exhaust will not be overly loud. im just curious as to how strict the modification laws are in WA and how hard it would be to get this car passed in this state. we will be goin to northam area. thanks guys mark Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/382013-moving-to-wa/ Share on other sites

Boss-zilla
Mike is right if you can prove more than 12 months ownership it just get transfered over with out needing to be checked. We did this when we moved over with the wifes car by showing 3 rego forms in her name. If you cant then it will be a trip to the pits (have a search plenty of info) which will mean either returning it to stock OR putting in an application to approve the mods BEFORE going over. Most things get approved but a screamer WILL NOT so that will be the first thing you will have to change. syfon
Legally speaking the mods, especially the surge tank/high mount turbo will need to be approved by way of filling in a modification application form. WA can be quite strict on overly-modified turbo cars. The modification application form takes anywhere between 4-6 weeks to have the modifications either approved or denied. Sometimes you are required to gain engineers approval for modifications. http://www.transport.wa.gov.au/mediaFiles/LBU_F_VS_ModificationLightVehicles.pdf Just so you know, this is the legal way of registering your vehicle in WA with the listed modifications. A lot of the time when you go for an inspection to have your car registered, as long as the modifications are safe etc, then they should be fine. The screamer pipe will be a no-no under all circumstances. You will not pass an inspection with that installed, and if the police pull you over and see it they will give you a defect compliance notice (yellow sticker). As you will be in Northam, the place that conduct vehicle examinations in that area are what we refer to as Authorised Inspection Stations (private businesses that conduct vehicle inspections on behalf of Dept. of Transport in regional areas). Just so you know, if the RX7 is registered in your name in the ACT and has been continuously registered in your name for more than 12months, and you can provide registration documents from the ACT to prove it has been in your name for more than 12 months, then you will NOT NEED AN INSPECTION to transfer the registration to WA plates. If the RX7 has been in your name for more than 12months, then this will be your saving grace, as you won't need an inspection and this means you won't have to worry about being picked on due to the modifications on your car. If you want more info, call 13 11 56 and ask to speak with me (Jason) and I'll give you the full run-down on how to transfer the registration over etc. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/382013-moving-to-wa/#findComment-6094331 Share on other sites

tricstar
Yeah as Syfon said do that, if you haven't owned it for 12 months, just drive it round with ACT plates on till you have, then just fill form out and transfer no pits required if you can keep your nose clean ....
