hi guys i have a r33 s1 skyline with 145,000ks on the clock no leaks/problems at all,the car is great on fuel $75 to fill and i get 550ks out of a take easy and it doesnt smell fuelly only a bit wen its cold drives good at cruising speed in any gear but if u put ur foot down its like the car starts to go then u can feel it holding back not julting but just a constant hold back in boost???it seems to start around 3k revs and goes right though the rev range i have checked all vacuum hoses and fitted all hose new clamps it has a r34 side mount intercooler and the standard boost controller disconnected and a turbo smart boost tee fitted running 7psi boost.it has a 3.5" super cat exhaust with highflow cat.i have had the car for 4 months and the car was fine wen i bought it.to try and fix the problem i have also changed the afm, replaced the fuel pump with a standard 2nd hand fuel pump, iridium spark plugs gapped at 0.8mm r33 gtr coil packs.with these things changed there has been no improvement.if i hold my foot flat to the floor it just starts goin then the turbo keeps boosting but it just take ages for it to climb up the rev range and if i keep my foot down and punch it through the gears wen u back off the gas at anytime it backfires and caries on and sometimes at idle it it runs realy rough then if u give it a rev it sometimes fixes it but other times it does it for a while even after driving it for a bit .any suggestions on wat it could be or a ruff guess on a price for someone to have a look.im located at wyong on the central coast so if u have any suggestioins of mechanics/tuners that could help me out that would be great, cheers

I don't think he means boost in psi so much as just not wanting to pull. ie, low power.

This could be anything at all. Bad fuel pump (which can include things like a poor earth, not just the pump itself), bad injector or injector connector, collapsed cat, blocked fuel filter, weak coil (although they usually make life a bit more miserable than your situation sounds), etc etc etc.

hi guys

I have an r33 s1 skyline with 145,000ks on the clock, no leaks/problems at all.

The car is great on fuel, $75 to fill and i get 550ks out of a tank easy and it doesn't smell fuelly, only a bit when its cold.

Drives good at cruising speed in any gear, but if u put ur foot down its like the car starts to go then u can feel it holding back, not julting, but just a constant hold back in boost???

It seems to start around 3k revs and goes right through the rev range, i have checked all vacuum hoses and fitted all new hose clamps, it has an r34 side mount intercooler, the standard boost controller disconnected and a turbo smart boost tee fitted running 7psi boost.

it has a 3.5" super cat exhaust with highflow cat. I have had the car for 4 months and the car was fine when i bought it. To try and fix the problem i have also changed the afm, replaced the fuel pump with a standard 2nd hand fuel pump, iridium spark plugs gapped at 0.8mm, r33 gtr coil packs.

With these things changed there has been no improvement. If i hold my foot flat to the floor it just starts going then the turbo keeps boosting but it just take ages for it to climb up the rev range and if i keep my foot down and punch it through the gears, when u back off the gas at anytime it backfires and carries on and sometimes at idle it runs really rough, then if u give it a rev, it sometimes fixes it but other times it does it for a while even after driving it for a bit .

Any suggestions on what it could be or a rough guess on a price for someone to have a look.

Im located at wyong on the central coast, so if u have any suggestioins of mechanics/tuners that could help me out that would be great

cheers

Sorry mate, im no help with your problem, but for some reason i felt compelled to modify your post.

FYI - big blocks of text like you have written, make me click the back button.

Have a quick glance at yours then a quick glance at the one above -- which one would you rather read ? cheers.gif

thanks cobbadan im not much for punctuation.

its like gtsboy said every goes up as normal boost guage etc but it just has no pull.

it started doing it a week after i got it and i dont thrash it i just use it as my daily but after it started doing it i cleaned the pod filter and afm i used proper senser cleaner on the afm and it did improve cold starting.i also changed the fuel filter and fuel pump, spark plugs with iridiums and replaced the coil packs with r33 gtr coil packs.its been serviced regularly and drives great wen u drive it like a nanna.i was also thinking the problem may be injectors or fuel presure regulator?is there a way to test these?

the computer is still stock,i havent checked base timing and not really sure how to on these.i havent had it dynoed cause i didnt know if they could do uch with a stock ecu??

This^

And...you spent a whole lot of money fixing stuff that wasn't broken. Type in r and r into the search feature and see what you come up with.

wheres the part where i spent a whole lot of money??

it was due for a service so i put iridium plugs in it

i put new coil packs in cause i got them off a wreak that a mate had for free

hose clamps i got from work for free

fuel pump came off the same wreck for free

so all in all i havent spent much money at all which is the plan obviously so thats why i thought that i would ask for some advise and hopefully get me out of trouble without spending a whole lot of cash.

    • Hi. A little bit of an update. It maybe(hope not) looks like i would need a new tranny(it would be "maybe" a cheaper or better option anyway) So i need some info. I know i need a different propshaft(i can make custom one) LSD is not a problem cuz the engine will be still(for now) N/A RB20. So if i buy RB25DET NEO tranny...is there something else i need? I read something about push/pull type but i do not know if i need to "change" something or i can just plug n play onto my engine a go? Thanks for the advice
    • Good morning all, Bit of a random question but figured I’d finally throw it out after wondering for a long while. Before I start, I'm hoping to do this purely out of personal preference. I think it would look better at night, and don't mind at all spending a few hours and dollars to get it done. I've copied this from a non-Skyline specific forum, so I apologize for the explanation of our headlight switch setup that we all know. Here we go: Zero lights (switch off) Parking lights (switch position 1) being a rectangular marker on the outside of the housing, my low beam being the projector in the centre (position 2), and a high beam triggered by my turn signal stalk. Most North American cars I’ve owned of this era have power to the amber corner (turning indicator) light as part of the first switch (parking lights). I’d love to have these amber corners receive power when the headlights and parking lights are on (headlight switch), yet still blink when using the turn signal which is of course a separate switch. Hopefully I’ve explained my question correctly. Is anyone aware of a way in which I might be able to achieve this? Thanks in advance
    • My heads are cathedral port! It's likely possible, but I don't want to add any extra moving parts (I know they don't move) between the heads, manifolds, etc. It will also affect how injectors/fuel rails etc sit and I don't really know if it would change how the FAST manifold goes/sits/fits. I have the LS6 steam pipes already as I have a very late LS1 block so it should be fine. I couldn't find anyone who had ever actually used one for this purpose, it seems 100% of people grind the water pump. The thermal spacers are 12mm and are half way to the cost of the newer water pump anyhow... so if it comes to that I suppose I'd rather buy a new pump. The bearing in the pump I do have is a little.. clunky, but it hasn't done that much time and I never noticed it when the car was together in the past few years, so..
    • The bushing has failed, not all that uncommon for a car of this age.  Any mechanic should be able to push in a new bushing for you, or you can probably buy the entire lower control arm, complete with bushes.
    • Could you not use "thermal" spacers to give the clearance, like the ones I used between the blower and head? That raised the manifold height by around 10-15mm Albeit the ones I used were for cathedral ports, but I assume they have similar for rectangular ports????
