I'd honestly just go with an exhaust (entire thing, inclusive of cat converter - bashing out or whatever), K&N high flow panel filter, and perhaps a decent FMIC (front mounted inter cooler). Then have the boost set at ~10psi and you should see about 185rwkw from the standard ECU.

Really man, that's the best you'll do from the stock turbo. Once you want more than the stock turbo's capabilities, THEN you should (well, NEED to) upgrade the ECU to accommodate for a larger turbo. Upgraded ECU on stock turbo etc is really pointless, it isn't worth the money.

+1 on that

My car made 170rwkw before the Nistune on 8psi with the stock turbo and was doughey as hell untill 5000rpm with the Nistune and 12psi it made 203rwkw and was coming to life at bout 3200rpm felt like a completely different car!

i disagree, upgraded ecu even on the stock turbo is a big improvement.

Also, you need to decide what you want to achieve with your car. What kind of power are you aiming for? Example, you do what these guys have suggested (which I agree upon) but if you get bitten by the wasps, you are going to spend much more money replacing these parts you just spent money on. Highflow turbo will only go so far, same with you AFM, same with a remapped ECU, then your clutch, then uh oh you have a race car!

Once you start modifying, it doesn't stop so I hope your budget stretches :D

My suggestion, keep it simple! Your current setup should see 180 to 200 kws once retuned on the right boost and then keep it at that. My old 33 S2 made 210 with only a boost controller to 11psi, fmic, splitfire coilpacks (cause the standard ones died), exhaust and a tune from Toshi in this club.

You drive a Skyline, you can pick up chicks without having an 11ty thousand HP machine. Save your money, upgrade to a GTR. Chicks will then throw their panties at you.

edited out the coilpack remarks because I missed that you mentioned you had after markets

Lol agreed bout the chicks but if you have a 11ty thousand hp skyline you can tear their clothes off under acceleration! Or you could cheat and buy GTR badges and most girls wouldnt tell the difference! haha :nyaanyaa:

Mine mad 192rwkw (Autotech and Ultimate Tunes dynos) on stock turbo 11psi (stock dump pipe into 3" exhaust, FMIC and unenclosed pod filter). Full boost by around 3000rpm IIRC. Pulled quite hard too, was very impressed.

Hahahahaha!

You beat me to it dude!

I was just about to say "Sin you probably own the house this said game is played in" haha

To be honest im not looking to get a car full of killer wasps

Just want a clean responsive street car.

Right now as one of the other guys said it just feels like a sloth in the lower rev range.

Also is running rich and overall just feels like its not pulling like it should.

Really needs a trusted good service + tune and I think ill be happy.

If not then I can go further and start heading into the idea of highflow, injectors , afm etc

What kind of power are you aiming for?

I really can't say the power im aiming for as I wont know until I reach it.

Right now I havent been for a ride in a GTR or an expensive R33 etc.

So I dont know what 250kw feels like or even if already my car is making some good power but I just got bored quick.

My mates think it has a fair bit of power but again they have never been in anything with some good money spent on it

    • It's kind of interesting - They definitely do builds that split the difference between what they like and what will generate views and engagement. The NC Platform always surprises everyone in a good way, in an uncomfortably good way some may say. They could throw a LS in there and arguably have the best (and best performing) car of the entire stable. But that isn't necessarily what draws views, because people viewing don't want to accept the vegetables of a LS NC MX5 being a superior vehicle in every way (including fun) than a RB26 240Z. This is also why there's not a lot of content about the GR Yaris (on the web in general). They're too good, yet 'only a Yaris' The community doesn't want certain cars to be as good as they are - to beat their hero cars, and I believe the NC MX5 is absolutely one of those cars.
    • Yeah - My key still does the chime thing. I followed the procedure but it didn't activate on the (identical) third set of keyfob that I had. I vaguely remember the alarm saying you can only pair two keys with it. Now that I've dug it up, it appears that you very much can pair keyfobs to the alarm system. (which are the fobs I use to unlock the car). I have successfully diverted the thread and can probably not use the OEM keyfob ever again unless I use the aftermarket alarm and attempt to pair the OEM keyfob to it. Which might just work, or not :D. I definitely used the nissan method and not the aftermarket alarm method.
    • What makes it worse is that Nissan made keys in the same style, for example R34 and Stagea, but they work at different frequencies or something like that. So they look the same but the remotes are not interchangeable. I learned that from some guy selling aftermarket blank keys.
    • Does your door chime work when you have the key in the lock and open the door? I've had that disabled because it's f**king annoying and it is one thing that messes with the pairing. Because now the car doesn't detect key in ignition anymore and the slide-key-in-and-out sequence does not trigger the pairing mode anymore. The service manual has a section on the various bits involved in doing the syncing. I presume it'll be similar between Stagea and R34.
    • Agree, but meh, I think is is based more on LOLS than actually apples to apples, like, who would have thunk a turbo 4 cylinder would not beat a NA 4 cylinder  I think with just basic N/A mods, like a exhaust and tune, it would be equal to the Mini in its current form, maybe I know my current 2.5 would "chop the mini" as the midrange now has a night and day difference in power delivery compared to the tuned 2.0, by around 20kwatw and 30nm from around 2k rpm "ish"....... I'm kinda hoping that they do a N/A build, either with the MZR 2.0 or with whatever they decide to use If I recall correctly they did talk about K swapping one a while ago
