So my rego's coming up on the 13th, it was a decent day and a perfect time to get the pink slip out of the way.

So I drive down to the mechanic, leave it with him for an hour or so and pick it back up.

Beautiful, it passed, no problems. I figured while I had time I'd give it a wash so I head on to supercheap to grab some cleaning materials.

Literally across the road was supercheap. Until this:

I know, it's a very sad image...

Here's a quick run down of what had happened. *Note, the other car was stationary on the 1st exit when I done both my head checks. He also appeared stationary in the MIDDLE of the road when I first realized he had pulled out, my immediate thought was "he knows I'm coming directly for him so I'll attempt to miss him completely". When half way through my attempt he had accelerated.

At the point of where I had stopped the poor skyline, I was quite angry and very explicitly asked the other driver, What the F#^K were you thinking?

The first words I kid you not were "Mate, I seriously didn't see you coming". I was losing my shit. I just got my pink slip literally 20 minutes ago so the car is deemed roadworthy and now this. A write-off.

No one was harmed, out of pure luck. I solely believe that I had done the best I could to avoid anyone getting injured, which worked. If I had slammed the brakes I would of hit his car directly on the driver side and as I was traveling faster than him the damage would of been much worse and a much larger potential for an injury to occur.

A disappointing loss to the Skyline community, but I will be sure to get myself another.

gotta say mate, if i saw a car stopped in the middle of the road i would've been on the brakes and would've taken the option of swerving behind him (depending on where he was situated on the round about), as well as being hard on the horn well before even getting close to him. also never assume anything from another drive, especially that they have seen you when they are stopped in the middle of the road and you are heading straight for them.

thread title is also a bit decieving. i can pretty much garantee that had you been in a falcon or commodore the same crash would've happened. i'm sure the other driver didn't do it just because you were in a skyline.

I knew 100% it was too late and if I had been hard on the brakes (no abs) so possible lock-up as well, also to swerve behind him I would of mounted the gutter and slammed into the light pole there :(

Yeah sorry about the title, still angry >:[. I didn't quite get to speak to him after I had calmed down but I think he felt really, really bad. I'm positive he didn't do it on purpose!

La Bomba? Lol.

Mate, if your car doesn't have ABS, I think it's important to learn how to stop properly. You can get on the brakes hard without locking up, you just need to know what to do.

Obviously I know how to stop the car properly... I'm trying to say it was too late to stop, if I had tried I would of hit his car directly...

You'll be at fault for seeing the obstruction then entering the roundabout and hitting him.

At best this would be apportioned in his favour without seeing his version.

Bullshit. the other guy failed to give way. Unless a copper saw it happened and is happy to testify the other guy entered the roundabout first and the Skyline was travelling well in excess of the speed limit, it'll be put on the shoulders of the other guy.

If there are witnesses of the other guy apologising, he's doubly done.

+1

If your diagram is correct your in the right, the other driver failed to give way to a vehicle in the roundabout.

that really doesn't mean much.

as for who is in the wrong, if the car you hit was already on the round about when you entered then you are in the wrong (regardless of where he entered). think of it this way, if a car was stalled on a round about for a good 5 seconds before you entered, you see this but still enter the round about and plow into the side of the car at full speed because they should've given way. the same still applies even if you didn't see the hazard before you entered. it's an extreme example but it proves my point. on the other hand, if he entered once you were already on the round about then he is in the wrong as he didn't give way.

Very understandable, the diagram isn't exactly to scratch from what I remember. I had already entered the roundabout knowing that he SHOULD of been stationary to give way but instead he didn't stop AT ALL and drove straight into me.

Think of it as someone running a redlight, he did exactly that.

Does anyone know if I'm eligible to read his statement he gave to the police?

Also another thing that really got me pissed. He took off before we could even exchange any details, I had to get his details off of his tow truck driver -_-

Get a cluepon. He admitted in his own version he saw the other guy and entered roundabout anyway look at aust rules 125 and 297.

Admitying fault at the scene is considered under duress and holds zero weight in court newbie.

Not necceserily mad082. If the Driver already on the roundabout was speeding for example then they would be in the wrong even if they were there first. Same if say it was at night and they had no lights on.

S3RK, you should be fine. I think the way that you wrote the first post was a little confusing. If it happened the way you drew the picture, then he should have given way, didnt, crashed into the side of you. His fault, end of story.

As long as you were not approaching the roundabout at more than the speed limit, which he would have a hard time proving anyway I guess, then there is no explanation that the other driver can give as to why it is your fault.

Insurance money is already through. Doesn't look like I'll be getting the car back >:[

I'm now looking for a 32 GTR, I always promised myself I'd get my GTR prior to getting my blacks and well, I don't want another GTS. Still got another 2 and a half years til' blacks...

so you're going to drive it illegally for 2.5 years? you may want to speak to your insurance company first. you will find that while they may offer you cover in order to get money off you, if you crash it then they won't pay out.

Was planning on getting an exemption. I would like to try and possibly be as legal as possible. I'm thinking if I were to throw on L plates and drive with my brother who has his blacks, would that be legal? In the case that he is taking me on a few "lessons".

What do you mean by cover?

    • I just got to work and skimmed through 61508 and 61511. I was surprised the CSA adopted both, but neither are enforced. To recap what I read, it states that in a perfect world, they should be segregated but they acknowledge that this is not industry standard and clearly mention that they allow mixing of safety and non-safety. 61511 also mentions software segregation like AB does in their safety PLC's.   Now if only I could go back to control, let alone safety over comms. In my current line of work, we're only allowed monitoring and basic control over comms. Everything critical must still be hard wired as much as possible.
    • I've unfortunately never been as they're on the complete other side of the continent and another country that isn't currently letting us in as easily as they use to. I even heard their stop signs over there actually say "Stop" instead of "Arret". If I decided to trek the 48h drive, I wouldn't know when or where to stop haha. Whenever I order parts from UP Garage, I order from Japan as it's cheaper. Same with GKTech... oddly enough, it's cheaper shipped from Australia then it is the US.  UP Garage Japan operates their US leg though, unlike Tomei. If Tomei JPN had the power to close down Tomei USA, I'm sure it would be done in a day. They're two completely separate entities. Tomei JPN messed up somewhere originally agreeing to its creation and got sacked big time.
    • I asked someone about this and he told me about the Audi 1.8T engine. But I think it would be difficult to swap
    • I don't know that machine specifically, but I'd personally go for something with a little more kick than 130amp. Around up to 180 would be good. At the 6mm range, you're really pushing the machine hard and don't have a long period you can run for with out needing to give it a rest. Lots of MIG machines come with a regulator and hose. A lot will come with a starter roll of wire too, but it isn't too expensive to buy. I'd recommend NOT buying a massive roll too, as you don't want it sitting around FOREVER in the machine between uses and potentially going to shit. For thin sheet metal, get a roll of 0.6mm if you're doing over 3mm and above, switch over to 0.8mm wire. Even by 2mm you'd probably really want to switch. As for gas battle, it's all swap and go style now. You'll pay a bottle deposit, and then X amount to swap for a full one. I think it's like $200 or $300 for a D Size bottle upfront as "deposit", and like $110 to $150 per swap. My D size CO2/argon bottle lasts a fair bit of welding on the MIG. And I run an E size bottle on the TIG. For DIY MIG, stick with a D size bottle. If you really start to get into a LOT of welding and doing it really regularly, then upgrade. If you're like most DIY car guys, one D bottle will last you 2 or 3 years easily. I think I've been on my current bottle about 5 years. It is starting to get low, but I've been smashing it a lot more the last 6 months.
    • SR20s came with cars like the Bluebird and Primera, but the RB20 never came. The ones in Turkey were either brought in specially or from abroad. That's why RBs aren't as common as SRs. And if a part breaks or I need to replace it when doing maintenance, it's harder to find parts for RBs.
