I have no induction/suction sound with my hiflow PU turbo why is that..have 3inch metal intake and podfilter and nothing like my stock one but car goes fine.

any ideas...

thanx.

Turbo cars don't suck air like na. You can always hear it on a na. My rb20 don't make noise and every other turbo car iv been in don't make the sound y do you want it when you can hear the turbo spooling much better the gay induction noise

na dnt wont the sound just thought from my stock turbo was like shhhhhhhhh wen on boost and my bro car put a bigger turbo on his n does it so just thought something up with mine but every turbo/car different I guess

What do you mean turbo cars don't suck air like N/A's? You don't think that turbo is pulling in extra air to flow enough to create pressure? Every single person i know with a turbo skyline and a pod filter makes a hell of a lot of induction noise.

If it has the standard air box and panel filter it will make minimal noise

saas filter i have on and tryed k&n pod and really nothing but just a lil bit like if i go past a car on the side u can hear it but very faint and the flutter is low as,but no where near my stock turbo which is strange cause i used the same pod and 3 inch intake and had a killer induction/suction sound.

Dont think i need the mesh one to get it cause my stock turbo didnt need it,only diff with this turbo is its hiflow and bigger and would think it sound awesome or better then the stock skyline turbo.

just strange that it would have full on induction sound on stock and not on a hiflow bigger one :/

could it be the plump back bov or something like that but wouldve been the same as the stock turbo...

The na motor sucks the air in and dosnt get compressed and you can hear it a lot more plus engine noise a turbo sucks air then compresses it hence forced induction its a totally different way of induction tell me how many turboed cars drive around having that na intake sound (really drowny) rather then ssshhhh (air compressing)

I was more focussing on the fact that you said no turbo car you know makes any induction noise, where as all the people I know with turboed cars that HAVE pod filters make plenty of induction noise.

Noise comes from the blades on the turbine cutting the air basically.

Tell me how a turboed engine is not "sucking" in more air then an NA, this goes against the whole point of forced induction. Your putting more engine into the engine, its not just appearing in there magically, its getting sucked in there. NA induction noise is different but unless its a V8 etc, my old VL Calais had a Pod filter and barely heard any induction noise, Where as my Skyline with the stock turbo, stock piping and my HKS Turbo and custom piping both make/made induction noise.

Video evidence

OP: If your car is boosting and running fine then I dont see it having any problem, Just thought it was a bit strange that there was no induction noise

Yea car is fine, boosting fine np there, just thought everyone with hiflows has it so just wonderd why mine didnt thats all, maybe cause its a big turbo thats why....cant complain if its running nice.

I'm not saying there is no noise I'm saying it's a totally different with noise and how it sucks air. Some turbos spool totally different my td06 spools quite loudly with minimal intake noise. We are arguing over such a stupid thing all I'm stating is a na motor sucks air totally different to a turboed car and yes the compressor wheel makes noise as it is compressing air in the (compressor housing) and forcing air into the motor. If you have intake noise great I don't I just hear my turbo spooling end of argument you have induction noise I don't who gives a f**k really? The bloke was worried if this is something wrong and the answer is no his setup is fine can we agree on that atleast

Think we might just be on two different pages here, hence the confusion

but yeah your right, its a pretty pointless argument and I probably should have left it at the first comment lol

Interestingly but, my HKS GT2835 KAI seems to make alot more noise with the anti surge slots blocked off then with them open. Probably because the air has nowhere to go once it gets into the anti surge holes and creates more of a whistle. Still a disapointing turbo so far

    • Sounds like the rack seals blew.
    • ^ This is all good advice. I can imagine that there's some passive components in the HVAC controller that run that PWM output that could die, or suffer bad solder joints. It can be worth opening it up, taking a schmooze around looking for swollen electro caps, evidence of liquid escape anywhere, tracks that have been hot, lifted, cracked, etc. A DMM might not be suitable for seeing if the PWM output is pulsing. Might be too fast and too low voltage for a DMM to keep up. An analogue voltmeter might give a better hope. I use a handheld oscilloscope (<$100 from Aliexpress if you want something cheap). A DMM might see the voltage across the motor flicker. Otherwise, as above. If you can successfully see PWM action, then the control side should be good. If you can't see it with what you have, you might need to step up the instrumentation used, as above. Beyond that, and dbm7's advice on testing the motor directly, you're down to looking for broken wires, corroded connector pins, etc.
    • So Thanks for the comments etc. To follow up on this, we went down the path of fitting a divider down the middle of the external pipe that was added to the exhaust manifold and the divider went from very close to the external wastegate all the way up to the "V" part where the pipes from each side of the manifold joined. After this modification it was finally in a position to do the dyno-tune with some degree of success. Top end power was down about 10kw (250rwkw down to 240rwkw) I believe from previous but it seems to be more responsive lower down and at least it is now driveable and fun and back on the road to be enjoyed. Apparently the timing couldn't be run the same as it was running into knock and boost was down about 1psi. For all we know this could have been from the fuel being a bit older, or perhaps some slight complication from the new head gasket as we didn't have compression figures from before that mod to compare. I'm no mechanic and this is second hand info but I just wanted to follow-up to those that commented or read the original post with interest. After so many months of stuffing around this is a big win. The interesting part was most of the info around this was gained from information around Barra motors and not GTR as the manifold setup on the Barra with single turbo was more similar.  Thanks for those that helped with info. Regards Rob
    • G'day ... first up, I very much doubt that's a resistor network (as used also for this job), but the part# looks right. The description of 'power module assembly' looks to be nissanese for 'PWM driven, ground switched, DC motor speed controller'.... the circuit in the schematic kinda infers that's the case... ...with the transistor symbol appearing in the unit described here as 'Fan Control Amp(lifier)'....being driven by pin20 on the HVAC unit,  and a feedback signal on pin19 from the motor negative terminal for some reason (might be motor fault detection, maybe they detect commutator switching to determine motor revs as well, I dunno)... but if they are  counting commutator spikes, a bad segment (or really worn brushes) will throw a spanner in the works... The motor itself will as said be brushed DC with segmented commutator, rated at 12VDC nominally ~ now-a-days I just unplug them, determine the positive wire, and hook them up to a variable power supply and find out how much current they draw, if they work etc etc ...you can also check for bad segments...ie; set the power supply up to feed 1volt @ 2amp max, then watch the wattage count as you slowly rotate the fan blower motor through a complete revolution ; any bad/dead segments will be clearly evident...some folks would just say determine the positive wire, and feed it battery voltage, and if fan spin, you've got a win...<grin>... well, at least that infers it should do something when plugged back in, and the HVAC unit commands it to run... and if it doesn't, you suspect the module, but you should check the PWM signal on pin20 is actually present, and if it is, blame the module ...
    • Ah. OK. I take it back. I hadn't looked closely at the R33/4 arms and presumed that GKTech did as GKTech do everywhere else, which is to use sphericals there. The poly bushings are made to be 100% interchangeable, should use the standard bolt just fine. Every other bush in every other place in pretty much every other car, does.
