Lost my fishing licence last night :( (and one of my sneakers)

Recommended Posts

Was down at Bobbin Head last night - Sinking a few beers with some friends - Chucked a line in about 10:00pm - No bites at all.... We were there for ages

So we decided to pack it in and go to Narrabeen, just under the bridge there where the wall of granite rocks is.

So it was about 2:00am and were we all pretty bored - and then, one of my mates gets this massive bite ! We all thought he was just shitting with us cause we all had no bites at all thru the night. Anyway, he starts pulling this fish in - it was only a small one - but since it was the only catch of the night we all gathered round to watch. We were wondering what it was....

So I get the torch out - and shine on the line so we could see the the hell was going on - And just after I shone the torch on the water/line - this BIG muthafarker shark jumps out of the water and latches itself onto the fish my mate had caught.

My mate had a 2 metre wire trace on the line - so the shark got hooked too - it wasn't able to break the line and becuase of the size of the hook (large) , when my mate jagged the rod back, the shark stuck to the line.

This shark must have been a good 40-50 kg and was thrashing about - I think it came out of the water once or twice - It may even have been a hammer-head - but it was hard to tell in the darkness.

My mate was dragged into the water - he is only a little guy - he is Indonesian you see - not much weight behind him.... So I take over the rod to see if I could bring the shark in. But it too much the shark is very powerful. I was there for a good 15 minutes - feeding line out - Just as I thought that the shark was weakening, I decide to reel it in.

It took me another 20 minutes to get the shark about 5-10 metres from the shore. He put up a damn good fight. At that point I knew I had the bastard.

I turned around to my mate to ask him to help me out getting this big thing out of the water - I must have let my concentration lapse because the next minute I was in the water....

I was shitting myself I let go of the rod and tried to get back to the beach - But the fishing line wrapped around my leg and U was getting dragged out - I took off my shoe and the line let go - The rod and the shark were gone.

I lost one of my Brooks sneakers in the thrashing about - They cost me $270 for the pair - I was so pissed off.

I struggeld to shore and found my mate talking to a park ranger - WTF ?? - he was trying to explain our story - Apparently the Ranger was asking for our fishing licenses.

I said "No problem, here's mine" - I went to get my wallet out (it has my Fishing license in it all the time) - But my wallet wasn't there - It must have come out of my pocket when I was fighting the shark.

I told the park ranger this - but she didn't beleive me. So now I have to go to court.

So much for my fishing adventure - the Ranger says I will never be allowed to use my rod again.....

Oh well - her loss :P

Damn.....

i live 2 km from bobbin head and love that drive.... i want to block it off and time trail throu there,

i have seen sharks at apple tree bay.... they shut it off one day so ppl could get rid of them.

they come into the small bay when they are sick or giving birth...

it is nuts...

anyway we should do a time trail throu that.

cos there is only an entyry and exit. so if we could control that it would work a treat...

I dont think so, we do not endorse or condone illegally blocking off a road to do "time trials"

...

time trial ...

yea baby

:P

I'd love to do a time trial but I'd want the cooperation of the authority owning the road first :D

Maybe we can suggest this to the East Coast Rally people ?? They seem to be able to get certain Roads Blocked off - legally.

Costs you $5,000 to enter though......

Why not, it worked in the fast and the furious?

C'mon, you just don't wan't to be in it cause you havn't got a motec exhaust.

I'd do it but only if we can have really hot chicks there to offer themselves as prizes.

Richard

ps :jk:

pps. The drive down to Bobin Head is very bumpy at the bottom anyway, not good unless you have rally spec suspension... Save it for the track lads. :P

said in ghey american accent: "I don't have $5000.... but I do have the pink slip to my car"...

ahhhh. enough with the FF references.

I'm going home now.

Richard

Drift day is on a Saturday... come for a watch and a passenger run if nothing else Adam!

    • @joshuaho96 Hmm considering the drama you've seen/experienced, have you looked into getting a built complete long motor shipped from Australia?  Considering the AUD is basically monopoly money when compared to the USD, at a glance this seems like a good option?
    • Bloody Skylines, they put you through the bloody wringer! Stick at it! Stunning drag strip BTW! Where is it? Can see part of the name on the slip and probably should just Google it!
    • I mean the other day I had to walk someone through diagnosing why their timing belt was walking off the cam gears. At least one of the issues was a bent tensioner stud. Local mechanics have found runout on the CAS mechanism causing weird failures. I'm also no saint here I've documented some of the things I've had to learn the hard way. Something I discovered recently is that my CA emissions catalytic converters weren't even welded correctly to align the downpipe to the main cat and they tossed the support bracket that goes from the transfer case to the downpipe to support everything there. I spend a lot of time chasing down these decidedly unsexy problems and the net effect is it feels like I never actually get to the original objective (flex fuel, VCAM, oil control, cooling, etc).
    • At times with how you make everything sound, all I imagine Americans doing when they see a gtr is standing there looking at it and bashing it with a gun like how a caveman would with a club and hoping it fixes itself
    • I think this is just a product of how the US market works for this stuff. Shops are expensive and there's no real way of knowing what kind of results you're going to get, people don't really have the institutional knowledge. I have heard too much at this point to really put faith in anybody "full service" except maybe DSport and they aren't really a full service kind of shop. If you go to the right place I have no doubt they'll get it right for you. Some locals have set it up right but the cost really is nuts and even now they're still fighting issues. And you know I'm a crazy person who thinks things like twin scroll, relatively short low-mount cast headers, PCV recirc to intake, recirculating BOV, right-sized for ~400 whp, MAF load, validating all of that to a standard comparable to OEM test programs, etc are relevant. For what it's worth, multiple local owners at this point have been stuck in a perpetual cycle of blowing a motor -> getting someone to rebuild it -> some missed detail causes the bearings to wipe and spin just outside of break-in mileage or drop valves or some other catastrophe -> cycle repeats. I usually only find out about this because I'm perpetually helping random friends with diagnosing car troubles, Skyline or otherwise. The single turbo stuff if I'm honest is mostly secondary, it just doesn't seem to achieve the numbers in the ~2000-3000 rpm region that I would expect given the results I've seen here or in Motive's videos. I don't really know what we're missing here in the US to be causing this. Lots of people like to emphasize the necessity of finishing the project first and foremost, but I'm not made of money and I can't afford to be trashing a 15k+ USD engine build with any regularity. Or spending my relatively limited garage time these days unable to triangulate problems because too much was changed all at once. Also, even if it isn't a catastrophic failure I would consider spending the cost of single turbo conversion with nothing to show for it to be pretty bad.
