syfon
well on that note the video I posted was 100% talent with 0% production The thing that was revolutionary about Climb Dance was not the driving at all. It was more that on board cameras were somewhat unheard of in the day, that is what is great about the video. Plenty of people were racing up the then gravel mountain. But knowing that someone went to alot of trouble to capture all that footage, in decent quality was a big deal for its time, there is alot more than 20% production involved in the making of it..there was hours and probably months of planning setting up expensive onboard and roadside camera setups etc to show people what a run up the Peak was really like.. These days anyone can produce a short film of equal or even better quality.. You can simply cable tie your phone to the car and video edit random roadside utube clips for a better result than Climb Dance ever achieved.. Oh come on! When Ari is driving up the mountain into direct sunlight, steering with one hand and blocking the sunlight from his eyes with the other hand? Now that is 100% driving! Marko R1
i agree - that pug in the 80's was pure nuts & the level of skill on both of these clips is inhuman, i take my hat off Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/382764-monster-cracks-10min-at-pikes-peak/page/2/#findComment-6121330 Share on other sites
ARTZ
it is 100% driving for sure, i dont know why people think I am knocking the driving..its brilliant thats why I posted the clip I posted originally.... As for climb dance well yes its great but, there is also other guys doing the same thing that never made it to video cause it wasnt as readily available in the day My only arguement was that there was alot of production involved in the making the video... Someone made the arguement that Ken Block vids are all about production, but comeon he can drive bloody good... johnd320
Brings back the memory of driving the Pikes Peak road in 1991 - 1992. It is / was a toll road and my memory says that it was all dirt then. I do not recall the guard rails which you see infrequently in the video. At the 4.48 minute mark is a building which in 1991 - 1992, you made a compulsory stop on the way down for your brakes to be checked. There are great views throughout the journey. The Bogan
Awesome run, from black top to dirt then back again, the road conditions and traction levels changed about 300 times, with rock wall on one side and cliffs on the other, man, it takes a massive amount of balls and a massive amount of talent. Thanks for the post, I was on edge the whole time, and in awe. Bodella
lol @ the keyboard warriors saying it's boring, slow, could've gone faster etc etc. Get off your high horses and get out on a track, or even better a rally course where one mistake can cost you your life, then you will understand what a truly amazing effort that drive was. I certainly don't think it's boring, slow etc . the current crop of Pikes Peak drivers are amazing and they are driving awesome machines. My point was just that the 10 min barrier while sounding cool, is not a fair comparison year on year . oh and I have a nostaglia hardon for Group B ... Any driver that can get up under 12 mins is vey good , under 11 amazing ... It's in my top 3 events to visit before I die, only a little disapointed that I didn't go before all tarmac. (really need to be clear when posting... ) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/382764-monster-cracks-10min-at-pikes-peak/page/2/#findComment-6133214 Share on other sites
