Hey guys,

A few of us are looking at doing a bit of a crusie down your way some time next year.

What is the best time of year to come down, what time distances are from top to bottom of tassy.

Just starting to get ideas so we can plan what will go on while down your way.

Any ideas would be very helpful.

Thanks

From like dev to Hobart I think is about 3-3.5 hours?

if you go down the highway....

use google maps to have a look down the coast lines if you want some good touring roads.

have a look at targa tasmania course, good roads to drive, obviously adhereing to the road rules

As a Hobartian I'll be the first to admit. Nice empty country roads are hard to come across down here.

I'd stay up north.

I personally love the west coast. I really enjoyed the road from Devonport to Queenstown via Middlesex then to Hobart. That was a good one. Many Caravans in the summer though :(

thanks for the reply's.

we are not coming down to tear up the roads instead we are looking for something different and to have a bit of a look around..

Take a look around but be sure to take some good roads getting there, there's awesome driving roads around tassie (the vast majority of which you don't need to break any road rules to enjoy). There's good roads all through the state, but sometimes you just need to know where to look ;) As other people said though, don't bother with good twisty tassie roads too much in the middle of summer unless you want to be going 20kmph behind a caravan of caravans.. see what I did there!? I'd say come down in early March or so, the weather hasn't crapped itself completely yet but most people have gone back to the mainland.

What were you planning on doing while you're down? Link us up with a Google maps trip like this http://g.co/maps/wtpb3 I'm sure people would be more than happy to offer suggestions by moving the points around to add in some awesome driving roads, there's already some nice ones on there such as the sideling (between launceston and scottsdale) the weldborough pass (between weldborough, duh, and st helends) etc... but to truly get an idea of what roads suit we probably need to find out what you want to see first. If you like cheese and wine, we've got something for that, if you like hookers and blow, we've got something for that, if you want a decent night scene, you might want to go back to the mainland :P

Oh, and for travelling times, Google maps is your sexually active partner of choice :) with a small word of warning, dirt roads do exist, Google doesn't care if your paint job is ruined.
