R34 Warning Lights - Tcs Off, Slip

Evening all,

I have a problem with my R34 GT-T where the TCS Off and SLIP lights are lit on occasions. The time between starting the motor and the lights coming on is varies, sometimes a couple of minutes, other times it may be an hour or more.

Restarting the motor will turn those lights off for a random period again.

My totally random guess is that its a sensor somewhere playing silly buggers (hope its not the PFC). Does that seem like a reasonable?

If so, where and what should I look for?

Is there anything I can do myself to see if I can fix it like clean sensors, or remove sensor wiring plugs and clean, check sensor cables for visable damage?

Failing all that, who should I take the car to for this to be fixed? Nissan dealer, auto electrician or skyline specialist?

super common problem, as Dan said, 99% likely to be coilpacks

does the car sound different when the lights come on? sound like a WRX?

i'm guessing coilpacks, and if that's the case get Splitfires, don't waste your time with yellow jackets etc.

Just need someone to do a consult check of the error codes. But really, you're probably better off replacing the coilpacks as you'll probably have to do them sooner or later :P

Dont be fooled its not always coil packs seems the tcs is failing on a lot of R34 GTT in the past few months , mine did the tcs and tps packed it in a week later , splitfire coil packs didnt fail till the next month lol no better then all the rest didnt even get 3 yrs out of them barely driven , i swapped out my throttle body for another off a wrecked car and it fixed my tcs slip light it will also chuck up abs light when it fails , the codes didnt match the problem indicated , once a new used body was installed and battery reset it was fixed except for tweaking the tps for my car - nistune

It also disables the car when it fails no more then 2,000 rpm redline is available and that sucks bad

I may have had the same issue earlier in the year. the lights kept recurring for months!

I looked up everywhere trying to figure out what was wrong and heaps of people said it was related to the coilpacks. I took it to a tuner to let them figure it out and it turns out my coilpacks were fine (in fact, they were still in very good condition).

they said it was the throttle body, so they replaced it but the lights still came on!

after a 3 weeks of them looking at it (yes, i kept taking it back because they said they "may" have fixed it even though it wasn't), they said it turned out to be that the ecu pins had been all bent up and therefore wasn't establishing a good connection. i don't know if it's true or not, but i haven't had any issues for more than half a year now.

Your welcome people need new coilpacks on old cars but that isnt aways the fix!

Your error lights wont go off unless battery disconnected and ecu reset , after throttle body fix

Pins bent on ecu doubt that highly unless it was monkey'd with , most likely the plug pins in front of intake manifold , thermostat area these corrode bad so sometimes its that simple to sort out

Pretty safe to say this is a serious annoying common defect on gtt with all the failures lately

That's why you do the diagnostic, takes literally 30 seconds and you know EXACTLY what has gone wrong, instead of all this guessing bullshit. Every single computer in the R34's has a diagnostic function, all will give you the answer depending on what sub-system or sensor/actuator has failed.

I had the TCS stepper motor fail also, never limited the car in any way though.....maybe your butterfly was stuck down, making the car feel gutless?
