Hi guys; made a quick vid so its easier to explain, hopefully the sound is clear enough - from the searches I've done it should be a blown turbo correct? I'm going to take the piping etc off in the next few hours, will I be able to identify it by spinning the wheel by hand?

Not sure what else it can be, it's boosting semi ok still (haven't noticed a huge difference) - stock boost, Hypergear tr43 - only had it for around a year or so :(

Thanks for your help!

Turbo is dead. Thats from wheels hitting its housing. is this turbo running the oil feeding line supplied with it? or was it 2nd hand from some one else. We haven't built another TR43 since 2008. Best bring it in for a quick check up give me a ring on 0413457185 before drop by.

nah bought it brand new from you mate - might've been 2009 and I might just be spacing out!? Yea its running the oil line as well. was fine till like 3 days ago =/ I'll bring the turbo once I get it replaced so you can see if anything can be salvaged...

Also, anyone know what exactly I'll need to change if I replace it with a gtr turbo? Pretty sure I'll need a new dump pipe made and joined to the exhaust yea?

The TR43 was pretty old and no long been made for a long time. For the wheels to contact housings it needs about 20 thous of play means bearing's worn, generally oil related. I still got a box of the old stuff which I can give you for free, does cost much to rebuild either (like $100).

Actually it made this sound on down spool, remove intake pipe and check shaft play first. If doesn't have any play then it might not be not an turbo issue.

You can't put GTR turbos on GTST. Totally different pattern.

Sounds like if you take it to Stao he can determine the best method of repair before you fork out on a new turbo.

And if you are talking replacing it with a GTR turbo on a GTST then you might run into some trouble lol. 1 GTR turbo will be an outright mission to fit and give you sweet f**k all power.

Sorry I meant Rb25 turbo (not sure which one it is yet, need to research) - I'm not a huge fan of fixing turbo's and I was thinking of changing back to a smaller turbo since I didn't even get it tuned to fit the bigger turbo etc (just ran out of interest in modifying :/) so I guess this is the time to do it ... had dump pipe leaking issues etc etc ... barely getting 6km/L right now.

Btw, I just took off the piping etc and because the engine is loud itself I still couldn't pinpoint the sound but pretty sure its the turbo, has a bit of shaft play (more then normal) and saw marks on the side of the housing from the wheel. so pretty confirmed :(

Need to look for a turbo now! I've posted a WTB in the section. Need to find a good place to do this cheap also, REALLY low on funds, these things always find the right bloody time to happen! Thinking of taking the next turbo and the car to Dr Drift (Sam), hopefully he can do the full job along with connecting the new dump to the exhaust and fitting the turbo etc.

Thanks for the help though!

Ok so this is a bit funny but it works out in the end ...

Ran into quite a few roadblocks with the turbo swap (everything from banjo bolts to front pipes to CAT's etc etc). In the end - put the turbo on and cranked the engine, the sound is still there!!!!!!!!!

It wasn't the turbo (sorry Tsao :) ) ... its the power steering or something else, i'll get it looked at next week. Guess i'll have a TR43 up for sale soon LOL! Its actually good because I wanted to drop it down to a smaller turbo to get more response anyway - TR43 would've been too big for my application (wasn't willing to spend alot on cam gears etc etc to make it responsive).

but yea its pretty funny in the end LOL! :D

Thanks to the guys that helped with alot of questions though - atleast the car's on the road again!

Well I still haven't - I just ruled out it being the turbo ahahahha. Nah slight upgrade - put on an rb25 turbo on...

Oh and I would've done the exact same thing anyway - it was just Gods way of pushing me :P

btw, in the interest of helping someone else NOT jump to conclusions - it turned out to be a stupid aircon pulley LOL - I've just snapped off the belt for now and its all sweet, I'll replace pulley once i source it and should be good to go :D

Car's running sweet now!

LOL . dint reallyyy sound like it was from the turbo in the first place

Shoulda replied a while ago :D lol. But nah I'm waaay happier with how the cars driving with the 33 turbo anyway :D just want someone to buy the TR43 now and put it to use!
