Lumleys Insurance is chasing business > undercutting Shannons and Just Car where they can; (but don't know for how long). Shannons is extremely touchy about even 1-2 traffic violations combined with young age and the suburb where the car is garaged. Guild Insurance has now cut themselves off from grey import insurance.

LSV stopped doing Imports 18-24 months ago, and wouldn't insure my GTR - even though the GTS-R was insured with them. So i cancelled and went to Shannons.

Have they altered their policy again?

Yes Ash, with adverts on radio too. We have 2x GTRs with LSV &1x with Guild under grandfather clause. LSV did our paperwork from Melbourne too.

FYI OP, Shannons and LSV offer choice of repairer. Just Car doesn't.

Try RACV for a quote, we've had a discussion a while ago that they insure the Skyline.

NRMA insures grey imports up here too (like RACV) but the "Sum Insured" offered is quite lame. RACV is the same?

Depending on your age I really recommend going with just car, I insured my 33 GTST last year (male, 20, Hawthorn) and compared to other quotes I got from Shannon's and RACV they really offered a better price than the competitors.

Any reason you want to change from Just Car or are you just curious about other prices? I found they were much cheaper than other companies for someone in their early 20s driving an import.

Yes their excess is quite high but they seem to pay out more than others.

My old R33 was insured through Allianz for about 10k with 1k excess, my current R33 is insured through Just Car for 15k with excess just under 2k.

Interesting... Called them up. They won't come removely close to the Agreed Value Shannons were putting forward. So Lumley are still a waste of time unfortunately for a highly modded import :)

Also got a quote out of Enthusiast Underwriting, they've met the Agreed Value that Shannons have offered, and have beaten the premium by $250. Excess is better also ($1000 vs $1500). They offer choice of repairer & one windscreen a year (if damaged)

Just going through the rest of the PDS at the moment.

This. People praising JCI obviously haven't had to make a claim. They make every step of the process drawn out and painful and you have to argue for every little crumb they will give you. Shannons for me was cheaper and better peace of mind, that said I'm almost 24 now so my 3 speeding fines and an at fault claim didn't ruffle them.

Yeah excess with JCI is high, but also if you increase you're excess it can drop your premium by a fair bit.

Being a dickhead when I was younger meant there was no chance of me getting insurance through them, but I would definitely consider switching to them in the future. Still if you're young and and an under 25yo with an import I really don't see a lot of other options!

There really is only those two in general for imports at all. Id never adjust the excess cuz I knew the moment I.did I'd have to make a claim knowing my luck

Yeah thys exactly what I was afraid of, especially seeing I'm still in my first year of owning the car:)

      Haha actually I did join back then under a different email address,  I couldn't re-activate my account so made a new one! I didn't post much anyway so not missing out on much. Amazing to see how the value of the cars and parts has changed over the years, also ACT section appears to be dead now.

      Thanks... It's in pretty good condition overall, probably due to not being drifted/tuned however being a daily driver has taken its toll. Had 100k on the clock when I got it, up to 180k now. Unfortunately it's not 100% dent free, it's got a small dent on FLH side and broken indicator from where I hit a small kangaroo at high speed. If you look at closely at pic #5 you might spot the dodgy trailer light repair my old man and I rigged up as temporary repair! - It's still there due to a combo of needing the car as daily driver and then too lazy/busy to fix properly. I've a couple of other minor accidents accidents as well but nothing major. One required a new front bar and unfortunately the smash repairer ordered the normal gtst one and not the aero bar. Needed the car back asap so just went with it, regretted ever since.

      I can't believe that anyone is foolish enough to believe that the base maps are for any other purpose than to drive the car up onto the trailer/truck or gently creep it to the dyno. No matter how good they are, they can never be any better than the factory maps**, and only the foolish trust those on a significantly modified setup. **Yeah, yeah. I know there's also the difference between factory maps being fixed to certain injector sizes and MAP/AFM/VE relationships, and the likely aftermarket ECU base maps being better able to handle the sorts of changes that would render a stock ECU dangerous, like different sized injectors. But let's just ignore that for the moment, because the principle is still the same.

      I'm shocked, you've owned a Skyline since 2006 and never joined SAU before now! 😮   Welcome, it's much quieter these days than it was in 2006, but lots of very knowledgeable ones lurk around here. I actually think in outage we've forgotten more about Skylines than anyone knows about them today... 😛

      So it could give us some info. Such as we find out what number they started at, and we know how many of those blocks came before it.
