ARIAN
Hey Guys and Girls, I'm looking at upgrading from my first car (VL commo) and have decided to stick with the bullet proof RB motor so R33 is what I'm after. So got me wondering........... what do you look for when going for one i.e. with the vl it was rust around windscreen, what K's are good in relation to age of car. The norm stuff I spent 6 months looking for the VL and it paid off with 3years of loyal sevrice. So any help would be great, also what prices should pay like I know you shouldn't really pay more than $20 000 for a 93 R33 with about 40 000K's that sorta thing. Again thanks, The new guy lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/38375-what-do-i-look-for-with-2nd-hand-skylines/ Share on other sites
Sumo
Look for broken stuff Nah, the km's are no indication of the cars true km's. Take it for a drive and make sure the g/box is ok, some are fairly s**thouse... But the owner can hide these problems with good oil. Interior trim is probably the best indication, if its worn well you know its done a fair few km's. If you get a stock one, you know within 6 months you'll be upgrading the exhaust, airbox and a boost controller, so you can save a bit of money by getting a car with these things done. I think the best way is really to speak to the owner , if he says he spends the weekends waxing, servicing and other things you know this bloke will treat it like his baby, but if you buy from someone who says "Moite, I chop da rexs and da V8's all da time" you know its copped a caining. G0DF4Th3R
i doubt you'd find a 93 GTSt with 40000 genuine kms... again as Sumo said, kms arent a proper indicator, try compression tests to check the engine and drive the car for a little bit with an experienced friend / mechanic to help pick out problems with gearbox shifting etc.. when i bought mine, i had it inspected by a performance shop.. even had it on the hoist and also removed all the interior trim in doors, boot etc to check for accident damage.. basically there are lots of imports out there, and most of them would have small little irritating problems but thats part of owning an import.. its something u live with i guess Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/38375-what-do-i-look-for-with-2nd-hand-skylines/#findComment-777317 Share on other sites

predator
yer..thats a good guide merli put together. NEVER GO ON KILOMETERS ON A SKYLINE.. always check on condition, condition, and condition. But get it checked out, or bring a buddy that knows/owns import cars. There are things to look for, and even just looking at a few (limited) numbers of skylines with friends, the amount of dodgy people out there trying to sell skylines is incredible. Everything else is pretty much the same as any other car on the road, and often just common sense. Its a 30min job (if that) to swap a speedo cluster, simply unplug the old, and in with the new (its that easy, i was in fact suprised when i pulled out mine when i had my dash apart) and it happens it japan all the time.
