R33 Dash And Engine Loom Compatibility - Manual To Auto Conversion

Recommended Posts

Hello all. Chasing some advice before I get too far ahead of myself. I'm currently converting my 1995 series 1.5 r33 gtst from manual to auto (don't bother commenting on this, I have my reasons). I have access to a wrecked 1994 auto gtst for all the auto conversion parts. The issue I am having is trying to figure out what to do about the transmission control ecu and wiring. I discovered when removing the auto trans from the donor car that the auto trans wiring plugs into the loom near the fusebox in the engine bay on the drivers side. The manual loom in my car does not have the plugs for the auto trans so it appears that I am going to have to swap the whole dash loom. I have followed the loom from where it plugs into the auto trans wiring and it goes back through the firewall to the big wiring junction next to the auto control ecu in the drivers kick panel. Can someone confirm that I do have to change the dash wiring loom so that the auto engine ecu is able to talk to the auto trans ecu?

So in summary to sort out the wiring issue for the auto trans I need to;

Replace my current ecu with the one auto of the auto car (will this be a direct swap?)

Replace the dash loom with the one from the auto car (will this create any other issues?)

The other issue that may trip me up Is that the engine ecu from the donor car is from a series 1 and the 1.5 has series 2 engine electrics. Do the ECU's interchange?

Information on any other hurdles I may come across is appreciated, as well as any tips in removing and replacing the dash loom.

Cheers, Matt.
