Thinking I Might Move To Townsville........

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, looking for a change, currently living in Kalgoorlie, but the wife and i are keen for a sea change and still remain in the mining sector.

I know there are a couple of regular posters on sau from Townsville.

From what i have read, ville doesnt have the biggest car scene going on, but hopefully i could help the numbers. Also, i have always lived in Tassie and now Kalgoorlie, so it cant get too much worse i wouldn't think.

I'm keen to do a touch of racing when the time allows, i see there is a drag track, i'll no doubt be there in the first week, but i have a real need to do a bit of track work, is there any circuit in the area??

also, if we looked at moving over, where are the dodgy areas to avoid living in

will be moving over with positive attitude towards the car scene, hopfully there are others like myself, i'm a diy person, do my own tuning, the lot, to the best of my ability

its ok, i am originally from brissy though. there are no proper beaches :(

there is the bituman sprint series at the gokart track & v8's track and the hill climbs. thats it unless you drive 4-5hrs to mareebafor their sprints.

dodgey area's- kelso, the wrong side of thuringowa dr  , heatly/vincent area's. it is slowly getting better.

car scene is dead in my opinion and you are heaps better off doing all your own work.

everyone here does most of their own work and you can generally find someone who can help or knows someone who can.

There is a dragway, but isnt the lease apparently going to expire end of the year?

Its a shit track anyway, it fuggen pelts the front of your car with rocks when you go into the braking area.

The police has done an excellent job, they really have.

Its to do with peoples car and they're roadworthyness.

As it turns out most of Townsvilles cars aren't.

That said, my illegally turbod corolla went through 3 inspections and all passed.

All they do is check your tyres are ok and that things arent leaking.

Your saying there are no proper beaches in Brisbane, correct? I was in Townsville once, but it was 13 years ago, good beaches and lifestyle in Townsville?

So the police are fairly lax when it comes to modded cars, thats good to hear.

Sounds like the drag track is running on the ragged edge then? Assume not many people support the venue then?

Also, what is the "v8 track" I hear of?

townsville beaches suck there is no waves and the water generally a murky brown.

the general lifestyle is good and pretty laid back.

dragway is supported but they can't renew the lease as i was rezoned for residential commercial and the track itself is historically listed as an airfield so they were never able to upgrade it.

the v8 track is the half street half permanant tarck for b8 supercars and they use the back section for the sprints. they will use it twice next year and from what i have heard the motokhana series will be held there too next year.

if the cops catch you doing the wrong thing then they will give you a hard time, most are pretty good. just mainly p platers in falcadores that get all the heat.

i'm 29 years young, and don't drive like a dick in town, so as long as cops are not pestering for no reason, ill be fine

the rest of what your talking about is actually turning me off the place, i assumed the beaches to be awesome,

and closing the drags would suck, being the only form of ongoing motorsport with a calendar in town :/.

On a good note, i have just been out testing my newly made 4" exhaust, was fun, more power ftw

Townsville is a great place if you lile the slower chilled out life style. I'm moving back there in Jan 2012 and i can't wait. Beaches dont look that great but the fishing is great, if you know where to go. Car sceene is pretty much good but can get a little bogan at times.
