Discounting the Iceman?

Hamilton really really needed that win to come off yesterday, and as much as I don't like Pasta, him finishing second would have helped Lewis's title chances.

I know it's still mathematically possible for him to win, but gee he'll need things to work out perfectly for the balance of the season.

Grosjean gets a weeks rest, Red Baron gets a slap on the wrist. Consistently inconsistent.

"Mercedes’ Michael Schumacher has been punished by the Singapore stewards for his collision with Toro Rosso’s Jean-Eric Vergne during Sunday's Marina Bay race. Schumacher receives a 10-place grid penalty for the next round in Japan.

Schumacher and Vergne both retired immediately after the Mercedes driver slammed into the back of the Frenchman’s STR7 on the race’s restart following the first safety-car period. "

name the last time Schumacher caused pile up into turn 1??? he's been in the top of the list of positions made in the first lap since his comeback. Grosjean has been in the top of the 1st lap crashers.

Don't get me wrong, his crash at Singapore was a bloody ordinary mistake that even a rookie shouldn't make, but he copped a 10 spot penalty which is more severe than normal because it was his second offence this season. But comparing it to Grosjean wiping out half the top 10 by deliberately squeezing a car off the road at one of the most pile-up prone 1st corners of the season is just stupid. They got different penalties because they were very different incidents with different events leading up through the season. "IF" doesn't come into it.

Given Schumi's form all year, a ten place grid penalty should yield the same net result, points-wise, as if he was omitted from Suzuka anyway

They were different. Grosjean had cars either side of him and therefore more decisions to make regarding the location of cars on all sides. How you determined it was deliberate beats me, it was an error of judgement and he was penalised for it. The other was a case of driving into the back of another car. Once is unfortunate but twice in a season?? 10 places is slap on the wrist.

You think harsh enough, I think not consistent.

Do you work for Fox US? Never let the facts get in the way of a good rant from a high horse!

Schuey penalty is about right in my eyes. It was a bad mistake but that's all it was.

Was gutted for Pastor. I don't really care about him but would love to see Williams get another good result. Is it too much to hope for that they show some more race winning pace and next year attract a top shelf driver to replace Senna? Would love to see Hulk return or someone like Di Resta get the seat. Dare I say I would love to see Massa get the seat if he gets booted. May be the change he needs to get back to his previous form.

sorry, not half, only 4/10ths were taken out on the spot. Koba's car miraculously survived the pile-up, albeit with quite a bit of damage. It still took him out of the points and ruined his race.

I don't buy the excuse that he didn't realise the car he was passing and squeezing hard was right alongside him. That's why he was squeezing him ffs.

that's not the way it happened at all. There was nothing but clear track to his left. And having started behind Hamilton, would have had a good view of the closing speed he had on him and should have known he was alongside. Their relative speeds were very similar for some seconds before the collision, which is a long time in the scheme of an F1 start.

Vitaly Petrov's manager has admitted that he will be without a drive in 2013 if he fails to come up with the right sponsorship.

http://www.planetf1....rive-for-Petrov-

McLaren is ready to match Mercedes' wage offer to Lewis Hamilton in a bid to further tempt the former world champion to remain at his current team.

On the back of frenzied speculation about Hamilton's future caused by Eddie Jordan's claim that he would move to Mercedes in 2013, negotiations have been ongoing between the Briton's management team, XIX Entertainment, and McLaren.

Although no deal has yet been agreed, high-level sources suggest that the wage deal on offer is no longer an issue.

McLaren is believed to be offering at least, if not more, than the approximate £11.5 million per season deal that it is understood Mercedes has put on the table.

The main issue to be debated now is whether or not the greater commercial freedom that Hamilton could have at Mercedes - because personal sponsorship deals are not as tightly controlled as they are at McLaren - is worth enough for Hamilton and XIX to consider it a better option.

McLaren has a number of extensive commercial tie-ups with companies like Hugo Boss that limit the personal sponsorship possibilities that are open to its drivers.

However, as Hamilton's current deal with Reebok shows, there is scope for personal deals to be part of a McLaren package. And sources suggest the outfit may be willing to be more flexible in what it allows Hamilton to do if it guarantees securing his future.

The financial situation is also further complicated by the fact that any deals Hamilton could get at Mercedes may not be as much as win bonus possibilities he could have at McLaren.

McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh said over the Singapore Grand Prix weekend that he felt Hamilton appeared more focused.

When asked by AUTOSPORT whether there were any worries that the disappointment of retiring from the race would impact on Hamilton's decision about his future, Whitmarsh said: "I have to say that Lewis has been incredibly strong.

"I've spoken to Lewis first hand and he is in a very focused frame of mind. He came around, thanked everyone in the team for their efforts this weekend and it was a much stronger-minded Lewis that we have seen before.

"He is very focused, he knows there are 150 points that are available and he knows we are going to work hard to collect all of them, or as many as we can."

Other team members were equally keen to praise Hamilton's attitude over the Singapore weekend.

The situation for Hamilton is also further complicated by suggestions that Mercedes may be poised for a management shake-up.

Speculation in the Singapore paddock pointed to the Mercedes board pondering a reorganisation of how the outfit is run, having finally given agreement to a deal that will commit it to Formula 1 until 2020. A decision could come at a board meeting that is scheduled for this week.

Sources have suggested that former world champion Niki Lauda could even be drafted in to take a role with the team, following his successful involvement in negotiations between Mercedes and Bernie Ecclestone to frame a new Concorde Agreement deal.

Lauda himself denied that he had a firm offer in place from Mercedes, but did not dismiss the possibility completely.

"I've not been asked," he told AUTOSPORT about speculation of a role at Mercedes. "It would be wrong of me to say anything because I haven't been talked to about it.

"The only thing I did was help Mercedes with the Concorde Agreement discussions, and that was just to get the ball rolling between the two parties."

So ... Orchard Towers? :) Its funny. I was only thinking on the weekend that perhaps a move back to Singapore is on the cards. But I quikcly remembered how an NA Impreza cost 4k a month and my apartment was 4.5k a month. It should not be a surprise that Singapore has the most millionaires per capita than anywhere else in the worlds

    • Honda's hybrid system can be easily scaled up to PHEVs. Series hybrid at low speeds, at higher speeds the engine directly drives the wheels but there can still be some power bled off to charge the battery + the electric motor can still provide parallel assistance too. It's really only a question of will at that point. Toyota's PHEVs are selling incredibly well at the moment because of the flexibility. You can run on EV mode when it makes sense, but if you're planning on doing a long highway drive you can still fire up the gas engine and not have to worry about dealing with the rather miserable state of public charging infrastructure.
    • Only reason to keep a MAF on your RB25 is to be able to easily calculate true VE if you know what the factory voltage curve represents in grams per second of flow. Also allows you to do things like pull the original OEM ignition + AFR target tables and use those as a starting point for your base map. Once you're well and truly done tuning though there's no need to retain the MAF.
    • Do you think they'll merge there performance divisions and we'll end up HoMo?
    • Very true, if buying new, I would not get an PP either. Minimum is an Elite 2500, which is also considered outdated. Get something that supports DBW, delete that cable throttle. Best thing I've ever done to the Skyline, next best is refreshing the A/C with a new condenser. It's cold, but not as cold as modern car, but colder than most 90s JDM shit boxes imported into Australia.
    • Haltech have a nice comparison table between the Elite and Nexus models -  https://www.haltech.com/ecu-buyers-guide/ In general, the Nexus is better. Haltech have some nice product videos on their YouTube page, I'd have a look at those and if you're still not confident what way to go, I'd give them a call. They have the best customer support of any company I've dealt with, I'm sure they'll be able to help you out.
