It's not the rules that f**ked Vettel, Red Bull just didn't put enough fuel in.

It's not a hard rule to follow, not as though they ask you to do something near impossible, like the driver must exit the car at 50km/h, jump through the official qualifying ring and land on both feet.

Red Bull didn't want to take an extra couple of kgs around with them, and it may, just may cost them the championship.

Hilarious.

Also, wtf is with Senna, how can two driver's pace be so different.

Since Williams love money, I want to see Red Bull buy Senna's seat for the last few GP's and put D Ric in there, like they did with HRT. Pastor proves the car can have pace and I reckon Dan would do well in a faster car, if only as an experiment for as couple of races. He put the Torro Rosso up the pointy end of the grid in Bahrain, never know what could happen.

I think the safer bet is predicting Pasta will take out Webber on the first corner, or Webber to finish 4th at best with a slow start relegating him to 8th by turn 3.

Also, Vettel will be his usual peeved self and I think he will get into the top 5 if he doesn't have a tangle with Massa...who should do the team thing and take him out :)

Difference between starting from the back and coming from the back due to track position and pitstops is that there are no blue flags when you're passing for position.

and in a Race car, no one can hear you scream ;)

This guy. My thoughts exactly.

yeah, but what does 150mL of petrol weigh? barely more than 100g

I think the rule makes sense. It does seem harsh but how dangerous is it for cars to be on their mega hot lap and those that ran before with 30seconds to go on the clock are stopping by the side of the track as they didnt want to carry the fuel around with them. Considering the top 10 are covered by 1.1 seconds with 2nd to 6th less then 0.3 seconds apart there is a spot of two to be gained from being a few kgs lighter on fuel. The other thing is that the cars weight is inc fuel, so they need enough for a sample and also enough that they are not underweight

there's no way homo can hold that type of pace through out the race, he was really violent with the throttle the whole way around the track and he was also on the limiter for what sounded like 3/4 of the back straight, if mark can get close homo will have no defence against him. ;)

I turned it off the second they finished q3 as it was pretty much championship over with Alonso so far back... but reading that vettel wasdwas dropped back has re-sparked my interest. I think he'll easily get into the top 10 and score some points, so Alonso really needs to maximise the poten-cial and get back in it!

Fingers crossed vettel gets taken out on the first lap trying to hard to gain places early

who says RB have any race pace?

if Vettel's trouble was anything to go by, they were running the cars on fumes during quali to try and make the top 3

both the RB would have been in the top 5 (originally second and third) where's the other mac?

button would of been seventh..

homo got mad and pulled one out of his arse.

Vettel couldn't have picked a better time to start at the rear really...With Alonso in 6th, 2 Macs, an RBR a Lotus and a fast Williams in front of him, I can't see him making up too many places.

I like to be negative so I'm happier if it goes better than I expect lol

Vettel was still 4 tenths off the pace and obviously without enough fuel to make it home...

Abu Dhabi GP: Red Bull says Vettel's car had enough fuel

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner is convinced that the necessary fuel for the mandatory one-litre sample was in Sebastian Vettel's car but that regulations preventing the removal of bodywork meant that it could not be extracted.

The FIA stewards' decision stated that scrutineers found "an insufficient quantity of fuel for sampling purposes", which led to Vettel being excluded from qualifying.

But Horner, who accepted that the penalty was fair, insists that the fuel was there, but that a full litre could not be extracted without removing bodywork, in contravention of Article 6.6.4 of the Formula 1 technical regulations.

"The rules dictate that one litre has to be able to be provided without the removal of bodywork, without manipulating the car," said Horner.

"We believe that the fuel is in the cell, according to what Renault have told us, but you cannot dismantle the cell to give the sample.

"The car will be worked on tonight, so it is out of parc ferme, and we should have a better understanding and hopefully a cure for tomorrow."

The need for fuel sampling is covered by Article 6.6 of the F1 technical regulations, which reads:

6.6 Fuel draining and sampling

6.6.1 Competitors must provide a means of removing all fuel from the car.

6.6.2 Competitors must ensure that a one litre sample of fuel may be taken from the car at any time during the Event.

Except in cases of force majeure (accepted as such by the stewards of the meeting), if a sample of fuel is required after a practice session the car concerned must have first been driven back to the pits under its own power.

6.6.3 All cars must be fitted with a -2 'Symetrics' male fitting in order to facilitate fuel sampling. If an electric pump on board the car cannot be used to remove the fuel an externally connected one may be used provided it is evident that a representative fuel sample is being taken. If an external pump is used it must be possible to connect the FIA sampling hose to it and any hose between the car and pump must be -3 in diameter and not exceed 2m in length. Details of the fuel sampling hose may be found in the Appendix to these regulations.

6.6.4 The sampling procedure must not necessitate starting the engine or the removal of bodywork (other than the cover over any refuelling connector).

Abu Dhabi GP: Red Bull baffled by Vettel fuel problems

Red Bull says it is baffled as to the nature of the fuel cell problem on Sebastian Vettel's car that resulted in him getting thrown out of qualifying for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Vettel will start from the pitlane at the Yas Marina circuit on Sunday after he was disqualified from his third place slot on the grid for not having enough fuel in his car for a mandatory one-litre fuel sample to be taken.

With the team and Renault both convinced there was enough fuel in the car to provide the sample - but the limits of the regulations preventing it being extracted – the FIA had no choice but to exclude Vettel from the results.

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said on Saturday night that his outfit and Renault had no immediate answers for what had gone wrong, which is why Vettel's car was being pulled from parc ferme so a full investigation could be undertaken.

"It is frustrating. It's annoying. It is one of those things," explained Horner, whose team had successfully proven that there was a 'force majeure' reason for stopping Vettel after his qualifying effort.

"It is an issue that was reported on the in-lap. The instruction from Renault was clear. They wanted us to stop the engine immediately due to an issue that they saw within the fuel cell. We did that.

"The FIA accepted that, they accepted the technical issue that Renault reported to us, and unfortunately as the regulations dictate there has to be a one litre fuel sample to be able to taken from the car, and it is only 850ml that has been extracted.

"Renault are convinced that the rest of the fuel is in the tank but we have taken the car out of parc ferme tonight to further investigate."

He added: "It is a frustrating scenario and we need to get into the fuel cell to understand what the issue is. We are working with Renault on it, and they dictate the amount of fuel that goes into the car.

"They are happy with the margins, they are happy with the amount of fuel that should be in the car but for whatever reason we have had this issue on the slow down lap."

Vettel's car being taken out of parc ferme means he will now start from the pitlane, which is a blow to his hopes of further extending his points advantage over Fernando Alonso in the championship table.

Horner said, however, that there were still opportunities for Vettel to limit the damage of what has happened.

When asked what impact he believed the result would have on the title battle he said: "It is difficult to say.

"There is a long race ahead of us and there is an opportunity, so we will go into the race, we will attack the race and I am sure Sebastian will demonstrate to everybody why he is a great racer.

"He has come from the back and produced great races before and I have no doubt he can do it again. There is no reason why Sebastian cannot salvage something.

enjoy that read.. :P

well Lewis won here last year and he hasn't looked anything less than formidable so far this meet, so I'm calling it 2 from 2 right meow

    • I would not be surprised if you are the only person on earth that has the interest/desire to do that lol.  The Haltech base map is a really good starting point, the car will fire easily and drive very well, even on mild boost levels. To me, following your advice sounds like some sort of ancient Chinese water torcher lol (this is not an insult Josh, never change <3)
    • Those car show concepts from the 2000's and 2010's like the Floria and IDx were brilliant and should've gone ahead, at least one of them. But neither Honda nor Nissan are thinking about affordable performance any more, which is truly sad.  Even if Toyota's liquid hydrogen ICE development reaches the point where it's commercially viable and the infrastructure to support it, Honda/Nissan would have to wait until Toyota allow fee access to their patents to offer it with any smaller performance models they released to take advantage of it.
    • A sporty manual RWD coupe with a IL4 Honda engine would only be a good thing I assume we won't see anything released for a few years though, unless informal talks and designs have been going on for a few years,  and due to the current, and future, emmisions and safety requirements, I assume anything "sporty" they would do would be at least some hybrid thingie And hopefully anything they are thinking of has nice lines, without lots of plastic and fake bits hanging off it like that horrendous FK8 that looked like it was designed by a 13 year old The other issue of course in the current market is cost, currently the type R is around $70k, a twin is around $50k Meh, I'm old and grumpy and would rather buy a older model car and waste my coin on that than buying anything currently available new
    • Nissan needs to forget about building SUVs in every size possible and bring back the damn Silvia/200sx duo to compete with the 86/brz. Maybe with the Honda type r motor pointing the right way
