hey guys an girls of skylinesaustralia this is whats happening with my r32 gtst (known as TRIGR32)

i bought my 1992 M-spec 5spd r32 about 2 an a half months ago, it was all stock except for a 3inch cat back exhaust with a trust cannon

so far the mods ive put on since owning the r32 are: reinforced race clutch bracket as a week into me owning the car the spotweld on the original bracket cracked off (bummer),

a hks turbo timer, hks bov, heavy duty clutch, black 5 spoke a-tek drift rims 17x8 on front with the normal size 235/40/17 maxxis treads an rear 17x9 also with the 235/40/17s but Kumho treads, 6000k H.I.D high beams,

k&n pod filter, high definition 7inch lcd dvd head unit, D1 shift knob, nismo short shifter, clear smoked front indicators, a bigger cca rated battery am some more other small things.

i've got big plans for this ride an as it progress ill let you people know :)

hey people just an update on wats happening

since my first post havent really done anything but would like some help on deciding a couple of things. i forgot to mention on the first post i have a 25 turbo on my rb20, an into the new year i will be looking at getting a fmic installed an getting a tune an up the psi a lil, so my help questions are:

with the 25 turbo in the car wat would be the best tune to get?? and to boost the psi level to? ( as i think its running slightly higher boost than stock)

were in perth w.a would be the best place to go to?

cheers kim

here are some pics of the progress since owning the r32

hey people since last post ive been doing more cosmetic work on the 32 arranging the colour theme an slowly starting to match everything to how i want it. so far im working on the engine bay an the interior getting everything presentable before i go on with any more exterior work ill put up some pics of wat i have done as per usual :).

with the interior ive had a custom dash matt made up suiting the black an grey colours in my interior an makes it look much fresher an cleaner :)

an yesterday after work i got bored an started painting a few things in the engine bay, the strut brace i resprayed an polished an fitted along with the intercooler pipping i resprayed the next thing to paint will be the rocker cover an timing cover :) an then ill be replacing the rubber joiners with silicone an shining everything else up to mate it look more neater all the condute along the firewall will be replaced also as after a couple years the heat has got to it also i will be re-meshing the bonnet vents an bumper side grills in the metalic blue i have an will be making my own bonnet grill with the meshing also fingers crossed i get it looking rite , i am looking to put a different intake manifold on id like to know what after market maifolds are good for engine upgrades an more info about them as im still trying to learn about them an have no idea at the moment so if you guys could give me some ideas that would be most thankfull

just another update :)

ive decided to put the stock bonnet back on an sell off the vented fibre glass bonnet cause im over it ahah but looking around for a N1 bonnet but im in no hurry.

ive done more repraying in the engine bay as i said in last post :) but havent got around to meshing the bumper yet :/ but have done most of the silicone pipping, all the intercooler joiners are done just waiting on the rad pipes to be delivered :) aslo did a full service an glad i did the spark plugs where shockingly burnt! an i waswondering why my car struggled to start in the mornings aha ill post pics on the new stuff to give you people a squizz :) also i put a new steering wheel on as saas streering wheels arent the firmest out there ahah an a new full alarm system as i had some lil juvies messing with my car last weekend -.- (lucky i didnt catch them) but now propably for next few weeks or possibly month or 2 i wont be spending anything on the 32 need to save up some $$$$ for a overseas trip XD

hey people just an update :)

recently my 32s ecu decided to start to play up an was running really rich so i decided to get a tune i went to GARAGE 101 in east vic park, i got a nistune ecu put in an got my decat fitted all dyno tuned up :) ended making 220rwhp as ive still got the stock side mount an front/dump pipe, so next on the list to get for my next tune is a blitz se fmic, 3'' dump/front pipe an a walbro fuel pump :)

also i bought some avs vs5 rims 17x8-17x9

hey peeps just a update on progress on my 32

since the last update ive had a fair bit done an i shal tell you now

i was saving up for a fmic an 3'' bellmouth but ive ran into abit of trouble lately with the car :/

ive had issues with the coolant system so at first i was just casually driving home with the misses an i pulled up to a set of lights an noticed steam coming from the bonnet as natural freaked out an luckily got it to the servo 200m up the road an checked it out at first wen i opend the bonnet steam was just pissing out which looked like it was coming from the thermostat housing but turned out to be the heater hose had blown apart as there was built up pressure in the system cozzzzz the bloody overflow at the top of the rad was blocked!! so i unblocked it filled it with enough water to get home next day took it to natrad they did a high pressure flush replaced the hose an they got it back to me so was all good, 6 weeks later (3 weeks ago) on the way to work the water pump decided to shit its self yay me right -.-

anyways got it down the garage 101 an the boys there chucked in a new genuin water pump an a gates racing timming belt kit as i thought i may as well get it done to be on the safe side as i didnt have any idea if it had been change at 100k service, also got them to chuck on the silicone rad hosing i bought but hadn't got around to putting on

an also in the last week ive bought a few goodies to help things along i've chucked in a walbro 255ltr fuel pump an replaced the filter, put in some double platnum ngk spark plugs gapped at .7 with the yellow jacket coilpack which combined make a hell of a difference!

new rear rack ends as there was play in the rack an got the tien ss full adjustable coilovers in an adjusted to a good hight (lowerest it could go without scrapping aha) an just put on a clear timming cover from sniper racing today which make it look sikkkk.also had a gtr boot lid an wing painted up an put on last week an looks sleeker especually as i put in some L.E.D tail lights a new tint 20% from work an it goes so nicely together :)

also as the drag season has restarted i may possible be up there this wednesday to see wat time i get with the 220rwhp i got before putting in a FMIC,T2871R and 3'' belmouth with the new tune upping the psi to 18

    • First up, I wouldn't use PID straight up for boost control. There's also other control techniques that can be implemented. And as I said, and you keep missing the point. It's not the ONE thing, it's the wrapping it up together with everything else in the one system that starts to unravel the problem. It's why there are people who can work in a certain field as a generalist, IE a IT person, and then there are specialists. IE, an SQL database specialist. Sure the IT person can build and run a database, and it'll work, however theyll likely never be as good as a specialist.   So, as said, it's not as simple as you're thinking. And yes, there's a limit to the number of everything's in MCUs, and they run out far to freaking fast when you're designing a complex system, which means you have to make compromises. Add to that, you'll have a limited team working on it, so fixing / tweaking some features means some features are a higher priority than others. Add to that, someone might fix a problem around a certain unrelated feature, and that change due to other complexities in the system design, can now cause a new, unforseen bug in something else.   The whole thing is, as said, sometimes split systems can work as good, and if not better. Plus when there's no need to spend $4k on an all in one solution, to meet the needs of a $200 system, maybe don't just spout off things others have said / you've read. There's a lot of misinformation on the internet, including in translated service manuals, and data sheets. Going and doing, so that you know, is better than stating something you read. Stating something that has been read, is about as useful as an engineering graduate, as all they know is what they've read. And trust me, nearly every engineering graduate is useless in the real world. And add to that, if you don't know this stuff, and just have an opinion, maybe accept what people with experience are telling you as information, and don't keep reciting the exact same thing over and over in response.
    • How complicated is PID boost control? To me it really doesn't seem that difficult. I'm not disputing the core assertion (specialization can be better than general purpose solutions), I'm just saying we're 30+ years removed from the days when transistor budgets were in the thousands and we had to hem and haw about whether there's enough ECC DRAM or enough clock cycles or the interrupt handler can respond fast enough to handle another task. I really struggle to see how a Greddy Profec or an HKS EVC7 or whatever else is somehow a far superior solution to what you get in a Haltech Nexus/Elite ECU. I don't see OEMs spending time on dedicated boost control modules in any car I've ever touched. Is there value to separating out a motor controller or engine controller vs an infotainment module? Of course, those are two completely different tasks with highly divergent requirements. The reason why I cite data sheets, service manuals, etc is because as you have clearly suggested I don't know what I'm doing, can't learn how to do anything correctly, and have never actually done anything myself. So when I do offer advice to people I like to use sources that are not just based off of taking my word for it and can be independently verified by others so it's not just my misinterpretation of a primary source.
    • That's awesome, well done! Love all these older Datsun / Nissans so rare now
    • As I said, there's trade offs to jamming EVERYTHING in. Timing, resources etc, being the huge ones. Calling out the factory ECU has nothing to do with it, as it doesn't do any form of fancy boost control. It's all open loop boost control. You mention the Haltech Nexus, that's effectively two separate devices jammed into one box. What you quote about it, is proof for that. So now you've lost flexibility as a product too...   A product designed to do one thing really well, will always beat other products doing multiple things. Also, I wouldn't knock COTS stuff, you'd be surprised how many things are using it, that you're probably totally in love with As for the SpaceX comment that we're working directly with them, it's about the type of stuff we're doing. We're doing design work, and breaking world firsts. If you can't understand that I have real world hands on experience, including in very modern tech, and actually understand this stuff, then to avoid useless debates where you just won't accept fact and experience, from here on, it seems you'd be be happy I (and possibly anyone with knowledge really) not reply to your questions, or input, no matter how much help you could be given to help you, or let you learn. It seems you're happy reading your data sheets, factory service manuals, and only want people to reinforce your thoughts and points of view.
    • I don't really understand because clearly it's possible. The factory ECU is running on like a 4 MHz 16-bit processor. Modern GDI ECUs have like 200 MHz superscalar cores with floating point units too. The Haltech Nexus has two 240 MHz CPU cores. The Elite 2500 is a single 80 MHz core. Surely 20x the compute means adding some PID boost control logic isn't that complicated. I'm not saying clock speed is everything, but the requirements to add boost control to a port injection 6 cylinder ECU are really not that difficult. More I/O, more interrupt handlers, more working memory, etc isn't that crazy to figure out. SpaceX if anything shows just how far you can get arguably doing things the "wrong" way, ie x86 COTS running C++ on Linux. That is about as far away from the "correct" architecture as it gets for a real time system, but it works anyways.
