Hey all

Just a thread to discuss WAs new red light fixed camera system.

Don't start an arguement about whether or not they're revenue raisers etc, because that's obvious. However, fact is.. We've got them and they're only going to increase.

Can someone please tell me how these cameras work???

I was of the knowledge that, once the light goes amber, the camera arms... And captures any speeding driver,

Is that correct?

Because i swear I saw a guy get flashed on a green light today...

I also find that these cameras are only at intersections that are roads governed by MainRoadsWA

So yeah...

Aside from saying "don't speed" do any of you have any insight and or advice for fellow readers to take on board??

I got done for 10 kmh over on Reid hwy the other week.

Which is weird because I NEVER speed anymore. I drive like grandma!!! Haha

But yeah, let's discuss! Constructive posts only however...

I dont know much about them, but yes I have heard that It will flash no matter what colour the light is. My bro got done like this, the light was green. He got a standard speeding ticket. 10k over i think.

Also confirming they are always activated for speeding;

I have been done personally about a year ago for 11ks over and the light was green in the photo I was sent.

They also catch you for turning right on a red when straight ahead is green, have seen the riverside drive camera snapping people for turning after its red

*edit* and to add, possibly can get you for going straight ahead in a right turn only lane - think I heard a mate telling me he got done for this, can anyone confirm that one?

They are definitely armed all the time. Mate got caught going 35km over the limit through the one on Kalamunda Rd, it was green at the time.

black car? 3 months ago or so?

was turning off at kalamunda and a black car, i think ute from memory went flying past me and got done...

yes they flash if you go straight from a turning lane in the direction the camera is targeted, although im not sure if you can get out of it or not.

Does anyone know if it flashes you as soon as it goes red? ie, going through an orange at the speed limit, then turns red while your passing through the intersection?

to be done for running a red light the light must be red before you cross the solid white line heading into the intersection, if your half way through when they go red your fine.

also the limit they set them to seams to be 7km/h over, anything less and you wont get done.

sort of related, with the new poliscan mobile cameras they only take 1km/h off the recorded speed for your alledged speed now, as compared to 2km/h for multinovas.

TL;DR

Isnt that traffic light at kalamunda rd 80kph?

Yep. It goes to 80 down from 110, he was late for work so didn't slow down. Must have been going a little bit over 110 as well. The fine cost him his PFC :P

Nah, silver R31. I'm sure there's many cars that go flying through there though :P

actually I just remembered a rumour about a mate of a mates cousins girlfriend etc getting done for passenger not wearing a seatbelt as well with one of these (with the ones that face forward).

(the rumour was a red light / speeding / seatbelt all in one)

anyone confirm that photos are checked for that?

Just to expand on this question a bit, can somebody clarify something for me. Driving around perth you'll notice 3 different types of cameras, The larger ones in a yellow box, the smaller ones in a white box, and the circle ball ones often mounted at lights and down the freeway, which of these are the cameras that capture speed? I'm under the impression it's only the yellow ones, But I always shit myself every time I see the circle ones lol.

The fixed red light/speed cameras are always armed. If you travel through an intersection above the speed limit you will be flashed like a normal camera, if you go through a red light and/or speed, you will get a fine for one or both.

extremely unlikely. most, if not all speed camera fines are now processed entirely by computer, the only human involvement is putting them in an envelope and posting them.

How do they measure your speed?

laser i think

From memory they record video something like 8 seconds before and after the light goes red

They are speed & red light cameras, so will flash at any time the light is red or if people are speeding as they go through

They are armed all the time red or green so that people dont speed through intersections, always see people getting flashed speeding through even though the light is still green. Apparently, speed is detected using in-road sensors placed at a fixed distance apart and it measure the time it takes a vehicle to travel between each sensor. If the sensors record that a vehicle's speed is greater than the posted speed limit, a photograph and video of the vehicle is taken. funny i read that they are LIDAR lasers.

a little off-topic but also kinda related, those new vitronic poliscans laser cameras are the ones to watch out for. one of our guys at work got done speeding even though he was close to 100m away from the camera and didnt see the camera until he was close to it as it was well camouflaged with the green body and it didnt flash which made him think he got away with it until he got a mail. see them in the back of Nissan X-Trails and VW Transporter vans as well. seems like by the time you see it its too late, same goes for some radar detectors not able to pick them from far.

    • Bit of an update to this one. Having some issues on the dyno that held us back (boost spiking) and I want to pass some info over you guys and see what you think is wrong with my setup. The current readout on this dyno is 462rwkw on a low reading dyno so keep in mind it is a real world 500rwkw setup on a hub dyno. Don't read into the power figure too much as a sign of the issue. The short and curly of it is: 2.8 Litre Racepace build RB25 NEO N/A Head with VCT (internally standard however ) Borgwarner EFR 8474  Turbosmart 50mm Straight Gate + Mac valve 6Boost Manifold 4" dump to full 4" exhaust (nil restrictions) Wastegate plumbed back in and all angles in the exhaust system are acceptable and not too sharp. GFB SV52 BOV in cooler piping  Turbosmart BOV in EFR Housing   The issue we are having is it comes onto full boost for example at 4000rpm and spikes to 24/25psi, before dropping down to 17psi before slowly rising back up to the target boost of 23psi. It was extremely uncontrollable and the tuner actually had to ramp in boost progrssively with each 1000rpm on each boost setting we selected to try and reduce the amount of spiking. Sometimes we would see a drop of 10psi from the peak at the beginning of the run, to the low, until it took the next 500-1000rpm to stabilise back up to the target boost. The tuner is pretty confident that the straight gate is just a poorly designed product and leaks too much boost upon cracking the gate open and theres no way to fix it other than going to a poppet valve. He's also confient theres no ignition breakdown or floating valves. The fueling is extremely stable as well. Turbo speed is somewhere around the 109,000rpm area. The spanner in the works for me is that prior to this Borgwarner and StraightGate, the car was tuned on -5 twins at a diferent tuner, and he also had issues controlling the boost with it spiking around the same rpm range, so to me this sounds like the same issue and it can't be anything on the turbo side as this was all changed and I think the behaviour is extremely similar, if not the same. We also removed the mac valve and did a run on wastegate pressure and it still spiked and had the same behaviour. My thoughts on possibilities are: Boost Leak VCT Cam Gear isn't reliably activating consistently - (On this however, we did a run with the VCT disabled and the boost still spiked) Turbosmart BOV is not handling the boost? However this seems unlikely to not be able to handle 20psi. I have a couple of logs that I can't make sense of if anybody knows how to read them and can obtain further logs of other parameters if they are not enough, happy to pay for anyones time. The dyno readout with the power figure is the most recent last week. The other picture is from two weeks prior to that where we couldn't break 400kw (we removed the cat), however the issue of the boost control persisted. @Lithium @Piggaz @burn4005 @GTSBoy @discopotato03 I've tagged those that were quite active in recent pages here, no disrespect to those that know turbos well but I missed tagging. Cheers
    • I recently purchased a 2018 Infiniti Q60, which has an SD card navigation map. I can see my system has options for real time traffic updates etc, and am wondering if there is something I can purchase to get this working? I can see there are at least updated maps for USA and Canada, but nothing for Australia. Surely Infiniti took changing road systems and city expansions into account when they decided to use an inbuilt navigation over Android Auto/Apple Car Play, or are we doomed to drive on streets that don't exist in the navigation system if you drive to a new area?
    • Luckily I didn't put in etch primer as I just found out it's not compatible with my body filler lol. Also just need to sand the panel anywhere between 150-400 grit so I'm in the clear there. It does say to not apply to soft old paint, I assume that means paint that is flaking, peeling, etc
    • @dbm7 and @GTSBoy thank you both very much! will give that a shot!
