Looks sweet dude.

Do you mind if i ask how much you picked it up for??

Probs my favorite colour 32!

Hi mate........

A a matter of respect to the seller and myself all I will say is that I hope to have change from my maximum budget of $22K although I think I will struggle as it needs new tyres as well.

That figure has to incorporate a complete turn key car that would be equivalent to a Japanese auction grade 4/4.5 including 12 months NSW rego and transfer fees.

In addition, all fluids, belts, hoses, neglected items inclusive of a major service must all be included.

Oh well..... I love these projects, I enjoy watching a reasonable car become very good.

Ive been in the market for a 32 GTR for me / GTST for my girlfriend for a while myself now, Sold my mint one back in 09 and have regretted it ever since and basically been searching for another since then. I have reached the point where I'm basically ready to give up, I have scoured the import dealers and they are way overpriced and in such sad condition, and the private ones just as bad and many with terrible dodgy mods, but a few grand cheaper,

I think its time to accept its a 22 year old performance car that has been used and abused for all its life and finding a mint one like my last one will be near impossible. I ended up buying a clean 33 GTST to try tide me over and that was nothing but a nightmare, looked clean but engine / driveline started showing huge problems just a few days later so I fixed it up and sold it.

I might just buy a 06 WRX or something now and just have one nice car instead of a GTR and a daily, I have considered a 34 as they are newer but I don't like the look of the GTT and my budget is 20 - 25k so a 34 GTR is out of reach.

I'm sure theres some good ones hiding out there somewhere, just unfortunately I think I've ran out of patience. Good luck with your search.

Dave, clean, original colour white, 1994 stock standard R32 GTR V Spec II , not on the market yet but will be in the next couple of days. Within your budget, PM me if interested.

Bob.

No worries mate completely understand.

Well it looks great, good job!

Nice one Bob, looks great. Last thing you want on a Sydney to Melbourne trip is some annoying noise!

Latest EVO (UK) tyre test rated the Conti Sport Contact 3s the best amongst the test group, followed by Hankook Ventus S1 Evos, then Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2s.

Followed by Michelin PS3, Pirelli P Zero, Bridgestone Potenza S001, Dunlop SP Sport Maxxx GT, Vredestein Ultrac Cento, Kumho KU39 Le Sport and Accelera PHI, in that order.

Thanks Matt.......

I contract to Bridgestone in their Golf division plus I've been a Bridgestone fan for many years so not much chance of changing.

The old RE001 was a great tyre so I can only presume the new RE002 will be slightly better.

I know all the R&D they do.... great company.

Bob.

Well the R32-R34 GTRs came on Potenzas from the factory right? So knowing you, you'll want something as close to original as possible :P

I've had RE001 Adrenalins before in both 17" and 18" sizes; was pretty happy with them and they were great value vs. the old S-02s / S-03s I think.

Tyres - if it's a daily driver, try looking at something like Kumho KU31. I have them on my car and I think they're great for what you pay. I like my cars to corner in the wet ;)

volt gauge - just pull it out and replace the bulb, a Philips head screwdriver and some patience is all you need.

Thrust bearing - gearbox out, lots of labour, $600+?

Climate control - there's a thread on this forum that explains how to fix it, sorry I can't remember where it is atm.

My two cents :)

Great buy

Yep,. thanks for all that.

It's at my mechanics now getting a heap of work done including a gearbox rebuild...

Good read on this thread! its been really helpful as im about to do this whole thing as well, what to buy, how to find it, where to go, interstate mebbie and so on and so on ..... it may be a hard task but im not in a massive rush. Some of those cars mentioned in the first post by bob are still around ... like the silver one out at Master Cars, not to trash that car as i have not seen it, but i wonder why its still there after all this time. Ive noticed really decent GTRS sell str8 away when they come along,,. Ill keep my eyes on posts and so on, see what happens. :)

The car I've bought would rate slightly better than about a 6/10.......

It needs gearbox overhaul as reverse is near impossible to get once she's warmed up.

The air-conditioning needs to be inspected and serviced and a top to toe service, replacing all fluids, belts and hoses where needed.

I have an original Nissan Bose (Clarion) premium radio cassette player to go in which will be matched to the factory fitted rear speakers.

It needs tyres but as I stated previously, I contract to Bridgestone so I am entitled to a small discount. I'll get a set of Adrenalin RE-002's.

The wheels are good just need to machine the far outer edge and touch up. My mate has a Touch up Guy Franchise so he will do that for me for a token fee.

Suspension is perfect and pretty much at std height. Brakes are good with new front rotors and new pads all round.

The interior needs a bit of a tidy up though..... Dash bubble is there but it's just too dear to pay someone to remove and refit dash.

Drivers seat need work so I'm meeting with my trimmer tomorrow morning to discuss options.

I can buy a damaged drivers seat but with OK trim if needed.

Ideally I'm keen to see if he has some material that will match...... I'll let you guys know if I have any joy.

Exhaust is stock so nothing required there other than raising the tailpipe a touch.

My hope is to bring the car to a 8.5/10 and as close to budget as possible.

Ordered new plates for her last night.......... GT 032

Cheers,

Bob.

You can (last time I tried) get all the bits for the box from Nissan and i_cant_remember_the_name_of_bearing_people_but_your_gearbox_rebuilder_will.

However, the disassembly + gaskets + bearings + reassembly_assuming_no_broken_bits won't leave you much change from $1k.

Cheers,

You little boys and your toys. If you don't have any mechanical knowledge at all or have only driven a hyundai before you'll never know what to look for in a high"ish" performance machine when purchasing. There are so many systems on a 20 year old gtr to consider. Don't get one from Blacktown for starters! Come on man use ya brain. Import from those tidy little bastards over there. Un-molested,clean and hopefully rust free. They ARE an old car but, shit, for just over 20k your gonna smash any other ride that could pick up for that $$. Use your melon and be patient. Stay away from s**t that's been "rebuilt". Your getting into trouble straight away unless NISMO built it!! And leave the thing alone unless you are a mechanic stop doing the dodgy s**t to these cars if ya don't know what ya doing!!! Don't get one if ya don't have some $$ in the bank either, they aint cheap to maintain properly with good quality gear. STOP DREAMING!!!

Always a fun and rewarding experience fixing up a car to get it just the way you like. And nice number plates Bob what colour and type did you end up going with ? I recently got new plates for my 32 as well i find they look fantastic with the overall colour of the car.

    • I know you don't want to hear this comment, but I can't not say it.  I just can't see 200kw being worth the time and effort. Its like guys with NA cars, putting in headers/exhaust/tune for a massive 20% jump in power. Great, the slow car is still slow and you're down $10,000.  My vote is leave it NA or price in a gearbox upgrade and shoot for at least 300KW, preferably 350KW+.  Now you have a NC that will try to kill you from time to time and will be exciting to drive
    • Ah yep. The main message I want to pass on is, try not to get scared of ghosts when thinking about knock/knock detection.  What I mean is, healthy engines make noise. Knock is also noise. Your knock sensor and ECU combo are trying to determine bad noise from good noise based on how loud the noise is. The factory knock sensors and ECU are not good at doing this.  Modern ECU's are pretty decent at it, however I'd still say that you would want to verify that if your ECU says it's knock, that you actually listen to it and confirm that it is correct.  Are you familiar with the plex knock monitor?  https://www.plex-tuning.com/products/plex-knock-monitor-v3/ I expect you're the type of person that would be very keen to play with something like this. It is great knock detection and you can pop some headphones on and listen to what's going on.  Knock that you've deliberately induced in low load low RPM areas is not really putting anything at risk and is a great tuning/learning/verification tool.  I just thought this was worth mentioning based on the way you were talking about setting up a base map and the Haltech base map settings. There are better ways to spend your time then chasing ghosts and worrying about detonation in scenarios that it is crazy unlikely to encounter it.  I was also wondering, what ECU are you planning to get? Will it be long til you pick it up?
    • This came quicker than I thought. It ain't even 2025 yet.
    • I somehow quoted my post instead of editing it. I regret nothing.
    • STOP GOOGLING FAB9 MAKE BORG WARNER EFR KITS FOR THE NC. THEY PACKAGE AN EFR 6758. DO NOTHING ELSE. CAPS INTENTIONAL. THE BEST RESPONSIVE SETUP EXISTS FOR YOUR CAR, AND HAS BEEN PROVEN FOR QUITE SOME TIME NOW. IN B4 "BUT I WANT EVEN MORE RESPONSE, IN A SIMPLER, MORE RELIABLE PACKAGE" WHICH IS A LS.
