When I lived in WA up until early last year I had Xspeed do all my work on my GTST.

I had to leave WA rather suddenly due to work (come back to the UK) and my car was work in progress for becoming a stage 1 car.

It had various stuff done such as Intercooler and clutch blah blah by Xspeed and I was very happy with the work they did over several months including services, belts etc. I even have them to thank for my car not getting pulverized by that hail storm.

I was hoping that Xspeed could have got PowerFC, coilpacks, boost controller done before I had to pack my car in a container and bring it back to the UK, but they couldn't get the PowerFC in time...in fact they were quite hard to get hold of themselves the last couple of weeks and my car was there for a while doing no much after having a clutch done.

So Hanson said he could fwd me the PowerFC, coilpack, boost controller to the UK. So paid for everything - including the work done, clutch etc - which was all part of the same invoice. This was perhaps a bit naive on my part but had a lot of things to organise moving back so just did it. So I left Hanson all contact details etc.

So result is nothing as a cynic might suspect. I did contact xspeed by email and heard nothing. Phoned up couple of times but must have been busy, and to be honest I can't be f**ked being fobbed off as I am fully aware there is nothing realistic I can do from several 1000's miles away and I am a realist about it.

Now Hanson may have sent the stuff for all I know and it got lost. I'm not saying he hasn't sent it, but SAU's you can just read what I wrote and decide yourself.

I'm a reasonable man and accept if he forgot to send said items, we all can forget stuff.

I'm not accusing Hanson of anything so mods please don't delete just adding to forum my own experience of owning a GTST in WA and dealing with xspeed.

Thanks. Joe.

FYI my car is doing good and a tidy project on the go.

i just cant comprehend how a business like that can stay in business so long with such poor customer service. 3 months they had my motor and they couldnt return any of my 5-6 calls, didnt get any info out of them until i went down there and confronted them, only to discover they hadnt done anything i'd asked and still insisted on charging me 1.5hrs of labour just to tell me what i already knew, which at $120/hr isnt cheap....

Guys I didn't want this to turn into a general slag off xspeed thread, one reason is that is very negative and also it will probably get nuked.

I was saying what happened to me and was not making any specific allegations.

Like I said the work they did on my car over several visits and months was fine.

If I learned any of this it is that I was possibly too trusting about handing over money on a promise. I say possibly because that is just hypothetical as I am not making any allegation Hanson forgot to send me the stuff or just thought to cheat me. I simply don't know, but if I had to make an educated guess I know what I think.

I was also quite new to cars until recently and didn't know an intercooler from an oilcooler.:D

we got an engine off them last year and even one of our mechanics said that the thing about them is: they have that "if u dont have money go elsewhere" sort of attitude.

Yah, $1700 to tune my HKS F-Con after a $800-1000 quote...

Workshops normally go by "If you don't have the money, go else where" because they are tired of people coming in for quotes and try to bargain the price down "Oh what if I take the front bar off for you? What if I help you?" or walk away with "Wow that is over priced".

Look at the car scene now, everyone is doing backyard jobs as it's cheaper and not every has money strapped, Shit like that takes ALOT of business away from the worlshops and now you can see why they are starting to take up other cars/4wd besides the usual japanese cars now.

whats your point..? why pay someone $120per/hour to take ya front bar off ? any monkey can do that.

maybe the workshops shouldn't have been so greedy in the first place, I mean $120per/hour to have an apprentice *( half the time ) work on ya car, I'm a business owner and I know there are overheads but come on............

I got my Focus serviced at Ford, quote $300, charged $550. Same shit really.

No one offers fixed price work these days, as there are too many unknowns in engine work. However I do agree that workshops should keep the customer well advised of increase to the expected work before continuing.

This is one of the reasons WA is more prone to doing the work yourself. A guy that i work with used to live over east and everything went to workshops, he comes over here and everyone is doing there own work.

$120/hr is the going rate nowdays, there are a few stealerships down here charging $140/hr. I charge not even half that and apparently i'm still expensive

Well we charge $132/hr ($120+ GST). Compared to the "stealerships" we are quite reasonably priced considering the types of cars we work on; places like the Audi Centre, Westpoint Star and Lexus of Perth all charge close to $200/hr from what I understand.

dont go to auto classic's then or more importantly dont buy a newer model merc and oil and oil filter change on a merc last i heard was 2-2.5 hr job and it's $230p/hr and you still get slogged on top of that 190 for the filter and 275 for oil.

But back to the original topic when was the last time you tried to email or call Xspeed? im not a fan of the workshop but everyone out there is still trying to make ends meat at the end of the day. It may even still be possible that they havent sourced you the Fc yet as rb25 fc unit's from what i hear are redundant and are no longer being made, but still they could at least send you the boost controller and coil packs if they have already been sent and just lost in transit

    • I would again like too thank Matt for his help in me sourcing the detachable hard top for the little red car, without Matt's assistance in inspecting it and locking it down, I can guarantee it would have sold before I could get up to see it,  and as that was the only available NC hardtop in Australia, I consider myself extremely lucky on multiple levels To say I'm more that happy would be an understatement And, it is 100% water tight, I drove through torrential rain coming back south, and by torrential, they type of rain that doing 40kph in a 110kph zone was a real thing, and even then, the standing water on the Hwy was deep enough to throw waves I'm also more than happy that the huge "BEASTS" that Matt calls dogs didn't eat me for lunch, I'm sure the sniffs and licks were more to "taste test" me, over being to friendly Now to work out what colour to get it painted, panel match, or gloss black........first world problems are real
    • Actually I might have figured out. Looks like there is a tab according to google images but it's hidden. Silly me.
    • No clips on this one like the other connector. Only that red tab that I can push slightly up.
    • For any loom connector that has an obvious release that resists pushing far enough to unclip, just spray some silicone lube into it. You might also benefit from using a bent screwdriver or small pick to push in the right place at the right angle.
