My guess is, not the lense but the aperture, focusing on the front of the car, so anything behind that would be blurry :P

I've got focus control on both cameras, but nothing as extreme as those photos...

To get that effect you need low aperture lens. Only thing focus has to do with it is making the car sharp. Aperture gives controls the depth of the picture. which is what you're seeing with the blurry background, low apature = shallow depth of field.

Is it a SLR or just a point and shoot?

Sorry. I wasn't clear. They are both camcorders. I've been looking at getting a Depth Of Field adaptor for the Sony, I'm just not sure of what type of lens I should get.

Like.

lol

I'd just use a DSLR for filming. More choices for lenses. And I could use my cousins 50 million lenses and flashes. Haha.

edit

It's these type of focus shots I want to try and get. The ones where the focus changes from one subject to another. Can't do that with my current camcorders.

low aperture short focal length lens. And is why I'd prefer a DSLR for filming than a cam corder. $$$ though

A few months ago I was recommended a Canon 5D for filming. But was told that the audio can sometimes be a little crap in it because they've used a few different audio processors during production and it's kinda random as to which ones will have good or bad audio.

5D's are great. But yeah, that audio issue does exist. Only if you updated the firmware, or got the newer ones with the glitchy firmware on it.

5D out of the question, 60D hands down.

If only nikon didn't cap the FPS to 24 or something... :[

My car video last year was done with a couple 5D I think?

BUT - The sound was done externally.

Good to know Ash. I'll have to find it again and have a look.

You know I think my dad may have picked up a 60D a few months ago. Haven't seen it. Just think he did get a new camera because he'll be going to Canada next year and he's always wanted a SLR camera.

I've also been told to check out the Canon EOS C300. But I'm sure that is way out of my budget.

That's a professional film/cinema camera. Costs 5 figures for the body and boring kit lens (average lens for this level of camera) :P. Definitely check out 60D. Awesome for vids.

Agree..get a 60d if you want to play around with DSLR video. you have way more control over depth of field (for that blurry background that you like) and with the multitude of lenses available - can get the look you want.

be prepared though, once you start looking into the better lenses of DLSR's they're gonna hurt your pocket...i know already ;)

what is with our SnS and the weather! Still a great day though, pity i had to run off half way and just come back to move the car, but had to work :(

Some great cars there, and some nice mods too (like the uber rare Top Secret LE37's)

thanks for those that voted in my direction too :)

I also enjoyed my lunch at Nando's with David Beckham (yes, the real David Beckham), he obviously had heard the SAU Vic SnS was on and needed a quick bite before checking out all the cars.

and lol @ Charles for being incredibly subtle in Nando's

It's a great location, but i'm just wondering if the event is going to be held back by having a narrow opening window on a Sunday morning. Pros and cons, but maybe we can try something else next year that allows some of the stragglers to turn up? I know the entry time was more than communicated but we all know it's going to happen, and if the net result is having a bigger and better event, then maybe it's worth allowing a bit more for those that can't get up early enough?

Daniel, good thing no random stranger sat in yours this year!

And congrats on winning yet another trophies thumbsup.gif

Also, what happened to this thread? Did it just become camera thread?!

Damn... ...Never seen it anywhere and didn't know it was such a good camera...

Turns out dads is a 600D... ...And from what I can tell looking around online there really isn't much difference between the 60D and the 600D... ...But now I know where it is I'll play around with it a little...

Sorry... ...my bad... ...But there are lots of photos in here so it was natural to talk about how some people got their shots... :nyaanyaa:

    • Yes to both! Yes to standard ECU and tune, but exhaust is aftermarket. Unsure on brand. Actually have it sitting in at my desk haha! I have to set it up on my laptop but this is a great next step, will do. So I generally try to shift before 4.5K RPM most times. I largely don't do a lot of high-rev driving, but I will take it up to red 1-2x a week max, as I know the occasional "Italian tune-up" is good for these cars.  Oh wow, is this way better than what I'm getting. Does this mean there's a good chance I have an issue?   Thanks for all the info so far guys.
    • Old Son, did you re-use the Holden ABS in the new shell or try a different module?
    • Yeah, nah. I had the actuator rod off it today. The arm will not move at all. Neither out, nor in. Yeah, you'd think so, but I've been thinking about that. Even when the actuator rod fell all the way off at the beginning of this saga, it would build more boost and faster in lower gears than it would in higher gears, and you'd think that that was the opposite of what should happen. But I strongly suspect that there is a thing with the gearing getting the revs to rise faster, that there must be some transient effect with the gas flow rate rising quickly, that you don't get with the more steady state case of the higher gears. Keep in mind - the gate is not shut in either of my weirdnesses. So things are not "normal". We normally think about a turbo spooling up (below the wastegate target) with the gate shut. I have all sorts of mental models running now where the gate is a little bit open, and having it stuck open allowing gas out while it should be going through the turbine has all sorts of weird effects (in these mental models). I'm thinking in the higher gears, the ex mani pressure builds to the point where enough gases spill out the wastegate to just prevent the pressure rising much more at all, or just creeping up, all the whole the revs are increasing and getting closer to the point where a gear shift becomes necessary.
    • Is it possibly wastegate actuator itself is sticking, or even the rod to flapper? Otherwise I reckon things are getting a bit rusty/worn   Also odd it won't boost in 3rd to 5th, but will in 1st, I'd expect the other way around with it slightly open as there's more time on your way to redline for it to spin up
    • Does anyone know ow what these two plugs are for and if they should be unplugged? Just put the dash back together and can't remember if these were plugged in before or unplugged! (Blue and white plugs) 🤦🏽‍♂️
