Hi all,

Yesterday I installed an Apexi Power Intake into my R33 GTR. They replaced the dodgy wire mesh type fake alloy pods that were in it when I bought it.

I have noticed though that now the responsiveness has been diminished somewhat. I am assuming that this is because the airflow is more restricted with the Apexi (proper) pod filters rather than just wire mesh.

My car was slightly tuned when we lived in Perth, basically adjusted the timing slightly and removed the boost restrictor.

I am thinking I need to have it stuck on a dyno and the timing re-adjusted to suit the new intake system.

Can anyone give me an idea of the cost in Canberra to have someone do this? And any suggestions on where to take it would be appreciated. I am aware of Ultimate Tunes, which is 10 minutes up the road from me.

Cheers.

Just jump on the phone and call around.

Everyone will pretty much be willing to beat the other person.

Just get as many quotes as you can

Then go to one of the guys like listed ESP or Trojan and tell them what you were quoted.

See if they can beat that

Little off topic but I did this with my windscreen and saved myself $150 + got a new seal

Thats still true. How hard can it be to set up a dyno?

I've never asked them but given the size of their workshop maybe it's got to do with the lack of room? Although that then makes you wonder why they have it in the first place.

they just need to park a few more skylines outside to make room lol

I'll wanna dyno tune my can when put in the electronic boost control to get the settings just right too.... Need to call round and see what i can get for that....

Any one seen and good threads with advise for setting one up? Or any one have much experience at it?? Had no luck searching so far.

    • Sadly I can confirm if you are actually seeking to drift, you will quite easily spin up one wheel. Even if you're going in a straight line. I am not entirely sure of the metrics/terminology here but there's only a certain amount that the helical will actually spin both wheels. I've seen it on video with my own car where two lines of smoke switch over to just one after you really get in to it. Unlike with a clutch diff where you can keep your foot planted until the car regains grip, in my experience with the helical you want to be utilizing traction control allowing LIMITED slip or lifting (partially) when you start to spin up both tyres with a Nissan helical. Which makes them pretty sub optimal for drifting duty. That said... this is probably a helical on numbers alone. Just put the Kazz in
    • Let's just fix the problem by f**king the rest of the gearbox.
    • Unlikely, as per Greg's post. This is not helical diff behaviour unless one wheel is up off the ground. Shimming what? You don't "shim" a mechanical LSD. Probably not in the sense that you have heard of people "shimming" a diff. And the process that Nissan f**kwits call "shimming" a diff involves super-preloading a VLSD cartridge against the side of the diff to create a friction/wear point (in a place that it wasn't supposed to have one) to make the sloppy, useless, viscous diff into a hybrid viscous/mech abortion. In case it isn't clear, I consider the process to be stupid. Nike.
