I think most people are using gtx63s' because one can just machine the housing profile. comp ID/OD 47.1/63.4 mm

With the gt60 the comp ID/OD is 47.2/60.1 mm

The gtx60 comp ID/OD is 45.7/60 mm so an insert sleeve needs to be fitted to the housing to reduce the inlet diameter to suit the comp wheel which is what I have done. Would cost someone a bit to get this done.

The HKS 2530, 2510 and GT2860-5 housings are identical size wise.

I did not want any more power just better delivery.

Plus I like machining stuff.

Garrett require 0.28mm (11/1000") clearance housing to wheel so the clearance will be slightly excessive using a 63 with GT or HKS comp housings.

Which might be a good thing anyway with that wheel.

I also have 2 x gtx2863 CHRAs brand new and 2 x Skyline compressor housings for GTX2863 also brand new. Both of which I purchased from ATP in the States as I was originally going to fit them but have now gone with GTX2860/skyline housings. I may sell them if anyone is interested.

Okay from what you're saying, I can't whack my HKS2530 front housings on a GTX2860 core, and I can't even grind them to fit because they are actually too big? (So I'd need to sleeve them?)

I have my my factory housings, are they usable?

For a GTR, the only solution is to use the factory housings and machine the GTX cores into them. Works quite well.

Speak to Tao at Hypergear, I think he did a pair recently so should have all the tooling required.

I guess you could use the OEM comp hsg so sleeving is not required, In my humble opinion this would be a compromise so I just used some old HKS2530 hsgs which are T04B style (aka 5s) with an AR of 0.6

The OEM hsg. A/R is 0.42 and although from what I have read the A/R on the comp. side does not affect things too much unlike the hot side A/R which has a major affect on spool.

Using the OEM comp hsg might make it boost slighty earlier possibly hotter also. Just what I have read.

Anyway I prefer the HKS 2530/2510 gt2860r-5 housings of 0.6 A/R.

I just turned up 2 x 6061 aluminium alloy sleeves 60.00mm OD 42mm ID x 48mm long. Bored out housing to 59.94mm . heated the housing up with heat gun (measuring it to make sure its bigger than 60.00mm) , cooled the sleeves down in freezer then dropped sleeves in the housings. Once cooled machine the profile to suit . Interference fit is permanent like welding but no distortion. I put 2 scotch keys in as well although that was overkill but thats me. The important thing is the 0.06mm interference!. Best not to press it in cold either as it may gall.

Hope this helps some people out wanting to use GTX2860r CHRAs' with Skyline housings.

Keeping my fingers crossed they will be better than my 5s in every way.

Watched that Motive Garage youtube clip where they put the -5 into a -7 housing.

Works well, has me wondering why GCG have not put a gtx in one yet.

A few guys on this thread have done it with -5 housings and GTX2863 chras, no wot surge...could hear the odd bit but GTX2860 should be safe imo.

I watched all of those clips from Motive Garage and really liked the Getrag in the 32 keeping the 4.1s hmmmm, definitely will look into that one for the my 33. Already has the OS gearset but what the hell.

Looks good Mike, they will work much better than the old melted down coke can cast compressor wheels. Should have incorporated surge slots into the sleeve. :P

Hey Scotty, the thought crossed my mind but I'm hoping it will not surge heh heh

Cheers!

thought you may be interested in this as it seems to come with everything done already (although cant justify the price nor postage silly yankees)

but if you are just purchasing the GTX CHRA cartridge then machining the front comp housing to fit will work IMO

Queried that one about 5 months ago to ask if the picture was representative

of the product. They never replied.

Looks like a GT2860 to me with cast wheel.

Bit of a con imo

You can buy gtx63 gtx67 proper machined skyline hsgs from ATP online.

could be right. very hard to trust any on-line listings these days

I would prefer buying the GTX cartridge from Sonic Peformance and go from there

I bought mine from TM Sports and Racing in Spain (biggest Garrett dealer there) and shipped to Japan very cheaply and quickly.

To give you an idea of prices in $A gtx2860 chra TMsports $1060 Sonic $ 1540 ATP $1468 GCG-Japan $2000 GCG-Aus $1780.

Is there anybody offering Turbos with GTX Wheels that bolt onto the factory RB26dett manifolds and dumps, I take it Garrett doesn't offer anything like this?

Thanks

Just noticed ATP turbo has the RB comp housing as an option on many of their turbos, including larger options like the GTX3071.

Link to GTX2863R as an example:

Are there any more developments of getting the GTX2860R onto the RB26 with the factory style front and rear housings?

Looks like it is right in the middle of the -9 and -5

tMW6DL2.jpg

I would love to stick this on my car but the whole intake side of things is a pain in the ass.

Anyone running GTX2867's on a 3L yet?

I want to :(

Won't fit though. The size of the compressor map and garretts recommendation says it should be ok on a mild 3L build. Would be curious to see how it goes

    • Nope, but they are definitely one of the default choices. Well established.

    • Haha actually I did join back then under a different email address,  I couldn't re-activate my account so made a new one! I didn't post much anyway so not missing out on much. Amazing to see how the value of the cars and parts has changed over the years, also ACT section appears to be dead now.
    • Thanks... It's in pretty good condition overall, probably due to not being drifted/tuned however being a daily driver has taken its toll. Had 100k on the clock when I got it, up to 180k now. Unfortunately it's not 100% dent free, it's got a small dent on FLH side and broken indicator from where I hit a small kangaroo at high speed. If you look at closely at pic #5 you might spot the dodgy trailer light repair my old man and I rigged up as temporary repair! - It's still there due to a combo of needing the car as daily driver and then too lazy/busy to fix properly. I've a couple of other minor accidents accidents as well but nothing major. One required a new front bar and unfortunately the smash repairer ordered the normal gtst one and not the aero bar. Needed the car back asap so just went with it, regretted ever since.
    • I can't believe that anyone is foolish enough to believe that the base maps are for any other purpose than to drive the car up onto the trailer/truck or gently creep it to the dyno. No matter how good they are, they can never be any better than the factory maps**, and only the foolish trust those on a significantly modified setup. **Yeah, yeah. I know there's also the difference between factory maps being fixed to certain injector sizes and MAP/AFM/VE relationships, and the likely aftermarket ECU base maps being better able to handle the sorts of changes that would render a stock ECU dangerous, like different sized injectors. But let's just ignore that for the moment, because the principle is still the same.
