Nothing wrong with the stock BOV.

Agree, hence the reason for sticking with stock bovs. Also have replaced the actuators with HKS items.

Green line is GT -RS's, split dumps, HKS front pipes and a kakimoto full mega N1 cat back.

No boost drop with your exhaust gear? Similar specs with HPI dumps, Mines front pipe pro, Amuse Titan R1 on mine.

I should have also mentioned that both tunes are on BP98. I was somewhat surprised by the power GTX made on low boost.

Cams 260 at 10.85

Head

Went from 86.5 to 87 mm Pistons. My oil pump decided to shatter. And a bit more boost.

For comparison when tuning in the new setup, it went 441 at the same boost level with more mid range. Then the boost controller got turned on.

Extra boost didn't net much in the way of peak numbers (30 kW or so), the midrange however was totally different. 75 kW through the middle iirc from controller off to the full effort.

I knew that head jobs are worth it

Which setup are you talking about?

With the RS's it was choked to hell and back. Ran it upto 30 psi and it gained a whopping 12 kW (414 rwkw)

You wouldn't be suggesting the Japanese catalogue parts were restrictive and shit would you? cause that would be a travesty

Not suggesting anything, just laying it out how it happened. Take what you will from the results.

I was referring to your -5 tune. Did you experience boost tapering on -5 with the exhaust set up you mentioned?

With it would up it would hit 29-30 at 4300 or so then taper back to 26 iirc. Seemed like they're just out of puff

Drop the gain back a tad and it would hold 25 the whole way through.

maybe we should do a group buy for machined comp covers?

would anyone be keen?

I would be, it would interesting if we could get a surge port in the insert as well.

I've got some -5s sitting here that Im musing about putting some GTX wheels into. im running E85 and HKS2530s with B poncams on a 2.6 at the moment and am concerned with overspeeding them as I dont have a compressor map. running 23psi and ~400awkw currently.

even comparing the GT and GTX 60mm maps, the GTX moves more air at the same turbo speed, and has a far higher upper speed limit being billet. wanting to run 25-28psi, goal is for relatively responsive 450kw with [email protected].

depends on cost, otherwise I'd throw the lot and go an EFR8374/Precision 6262 or gen2 6062. I do like the idea of a stock engine bay making 700hp though.

Leave it as it is and run 25-28psi through the 2530's, like piggaz did to make ~470kw

People were making that power on those turbos 10yrs ago.

is your 2.6ltr still stock internals?

you could sell those -5 housings to me?

:)

He runs 5's not 2530's & theres no way a 2.6L with a stock head will make that kinda power on them ;) Edited by Mick_o

fresh JHH built 26, forged 87mm pistons, forged rods, r34 crank, ARP studs everywhere, ATI balancer, Tomei oil pump, PAC beehives with 105lb seat, head has been clearanced for big cams later on and ports cleaned up. new guides and recut valves. currently only using [email protected] cams. port/turbine matched manifolds, HKS2530s, midori seibi 3" dumps and mines equal length front pipe 70x2 to 85mm. everything ceramic coated. and a 120mm intercooler.

is there any real difference at 25+psi between the -5s and 2530s in practice? im concerned being such old tech they won't like higher pressure ratios as much as the garrets, especially the GTX. for all i know the -5 and 2530s are identical except for marketing and a BS trim value.

I know, but everyone is aware by now that they are albeit the same thing. If anything, 2530 will flow more ;)

We are talking turbos. They will/can/have do/done it.

The "bs trim value" is the size of the actual wheel, the -5 has a slightly smaller compressor wheel, not sure about the turbine wheel tho

But 3530s will generally slightly out flow -5s

I figured it was just a point of difference for marketing reasons for HKS gear, so garret wasn't encroaching on turf with the -5s.

just did the calcs if trims are accurate, -5 inducer is 47.325mm.. hks is 47.7mm. so i guess that's somewhat "significant"

Sweet. if the compressor wheel is up to it I'll wind up the wick on them and see where I end up. will hopefully rig up a differential pressure sensor across the turbine to see what its up to. I've got a EGT port in each manifold and the narrowband bung in the dump to connect it to.

cheers all.

iv seen hks 2530's on a STD Rb26 with long duration low lift cams hit 430kw on 2bar.

the gtx2863 @2bar has a better chance of giving you that 700 fly hp on a 2.6ltr though

Thanks. I do understand what you say about the exhaust. I have replaced front pipe and the full exhaust - no difference. I know of two cars cracking over 500kw with similar spec exhaust systems - steady boost curve all the way. I suspect it is the stock bov ruining it for me.

Anyhow, on to better stuff. Here are the dyno graphs.

2014 = -5

2015 = GTX

Just overlayed these in excel quickly.. there is nothing in it other than 0.16 Bar more boost on the -5s. interesting! at same boost level i guess you'd be looking at an extra 25kw or so.

    • Actually,  just remembered there should be info in the threads (somewhere) about swapping to a manual steering rack and deleting power steering all together.
    • Also had a look at the Nissan JP website looks like the 400r has a slightly shorter ratio than than the regular V37 3.133 VS 2.937 which from a guy who has driven both 3.69 vs 4.11 ratios in the S15 is bugger all. Seems that the AUTO Z runs the same ratio as the 400R but can't find any info as to if its an open or LSD? More often than not the auto LSD is open
    • Do not replace the power steering lines with this stuff. If it's anything like the Chase Bays stuff it will leak and be worse than stock. The reason why the reservoir is on the LH/passenger side of the car is because that's just where the reservoir was most convenient to fit. Don't overthink this stuff. The intake/cold side of the engine is pretty busy on these cars. And again, the hardpipe is designed to be a janky power steering cooler. In theory you can replace it with a real power steering cooler but that's really only for track use where boiling the fluid is a distinct possibility. Start with the low pressure lines feeding the pump from the reservoir. Make sure there isn't a bunch of junk in the reservoir filter. Be careful to not get ATF all over the engine bay. I hate dealing with ATF spills, you can clean it up and the slightest crevice will still release more oil that can still drip over time. You also want to inspect for leaks before you make a mess and can't tell what happened. Most likely you have a leak somewhere that is allowing fluid out and air in. Failing that it's allowing air in but not fluid out. Only place I can really see that happening is on the low pressure side because the pump will pull a slight vacuum to draw fluid in. Everything after the pump is high pressure or lower pressure, approaching atmospheric by the time it returns to the reservoir.
    • I did a skidpan night at SMSP this week, it was much cheaper than $350. But yeah, you need to slap an LSD in that thing.  I put an OS Giken in the 370Z and it's f**king MARVELOUS even compared to Nissan's viscous LSD. So you're saying it's free now that it's a housing estate? 😂
