How is a GTX2863 crammed in a 707160 -5 foreign housing an 88lb turbo ???

GARRETT DID NOT PROVIDE ANYONE A COMPRESSOR MAP FOR A GTX2863 IN A DASH 5 HOUSING! !

its that simple.

I rest my case! Ahhhh thanks that was refreshing!

Thanks for proving my point without even realizing it ;)

Now back to the gym for more benching bro. Or maybe you need those muscles to dig your argument into a deeper hole!

Lol you're a f**kwit mate simple! This isn't wasting space on the thread at all! People need more than just your opinion on here. Clearly yours is uneducated & now you've got nothing to argue you wanna get all "PM" on me!

Be sure to post your results and prove me wrong soon as you stop sitting on the fence and dreaming up what these "hybrid turbos" will do with all your theories!

I've never heard so much shit come from one human ever.

Your a f**king joke.

You clearly have an over inflated view of yourself.

I've countered all your shit talk comments with accuracy and all you got to say you simple f**k is ....aaahhhh...... yea your a f**k wit mate.

Wow! :/

Anyway, having spoken to Simon multiple times about his setup, he has some interesting views about it all.

1 - heat management. He has said he could have put Atleast another half a radiator in the nose of his car. It was "OK" at 550 HP but at 620-650 he couldn't keep it cool.

2 - what that comparison doesn't show you is boost pressure. How much harder is the 63 working over the -5 here?

3 - even Simon himself says he should have put an Intercooler on it. Golf ball/garden hose.

4 - at what point does the factory piping call enough. It's only 60 mm with horrible sharp bends everywhere. The boost pressure to go from 550 - 650 HP was ALOT considering the size of the compressors. Flogging a dead horse comes to mind.

Maybe with a larger rear wheel/housing to accomodate the larger flowing compressor wheel would help.

At the end of the day you can throw all the compressor side at it you like, it still has to get out. That side of the equation hasn't changed.

HKS did a 2876 and it was a disaster. They also did the RS's which for their size never produced more power to warrant the lag that you cop over the -5/2530. (Gavin's back to back years ago showed this). All you're doing here is doing the same thing but with slightly smaller (pretty and shines) wheels.

GTR_Sean ran the GTX60's on his 2.8. They're now sitting on a shelf and went back to -5's.

Food for thought.

Look guys, I'm the guy who had the white 34 with 2863's in -5 housings, it made 489kwatw but at 33psi.
It was a mental track car, I actually never got a proper time with that power figure on new tyres, but at 440kw it was enough to hold the fastest lap record at QR for more than 2 years, it also held a few records in VIC with Aaron behind the wheel.
It wasn't all engine obviously, but since we are talking about turbo's and engines, I'll keep it on point.
My car ran hard for the first 2-3 laps, it really got hot after that and I mean 127deg coolant temps, the Rad was a custom PWR unit made for Targa tassie, the next step was to put another half RAD in front of it, but the real issue wasn't coolant temps, but EGT's and combustion temps, the dynamic compression ration must have been quite high and the intake heat at 33psi would have been very significant, you cant cool it quick enough, even with an after-market IC which I had without sprayers and dry ice, you start to push **** uphill.
The pipework is also very restrictive with twins, the bends are many, which also adds to the heat factor making a lot of turbulent air hotter and thus the amount of actual O2 will be down even at 33psi.
33psi at 40deg is a lot different than 33psi at 80deg.
Even though the GTX upgrade was fantastic, it did not suit well to endurance runs, it was for short sprints only with awesome results, but if it was my time again I would have gone the single route in a heartbeat now.
A few nice little 32's are over here in WA ahve shown me that  and trust me they are setup nicely on singles, they do very well for sprints and they seem to be quite reliable and are not suffering from excessive heat issues.
Guy's if you are doing this upgrade for a ballistic street car and time attack sprints for 2-3 laps, go right ahead, you will love it, my car was a crazy machine on the street and short circuit runs, but for a proper circuit car, I can't say it enough, go the single route, just get a tuner who spends more time on low end and mid range to keep the tune linear for great drive-ability.
The singles around these days are fantastic, it's all down to the tune.
It also won't be long til the E turbo comes out, so the days of lag and need for a wastegate :rofl2: will be soon over
I don't own the car any-more, it's now in NSW.
I ended up buying a Juno 2008 Lemans car now, at 530kgs I'm loving it, it's reliable and very fast at only 250hp and it will leave my GTR for dead by around 6 seconds per lap on a 1min long circuit, I just need to get more seat time ;)

Highest I ran with GTX 2860's, original front housings was 124MPH WSID.

BP98 23PSI stock cams blah blah..

shame you didn't try factory .42 comp covers especially since your boost is on the low side on pump.

Can't go wrong with -5's

Yeah true, I have 2530 front covers I was going to get machined to suit, but they may be too big? would probably work on the 2863's.

Anyway for my needs the -5's are fine, and I like the sounds they make :D

For simplicity and cost outlay -5's are definitely my choice for a RB.

Yep, they are proven even though they are old. I did mod mine for more reliability though. Fitted some DIY brass bearing cages to get rid of the plastic/nylon cages that tend to crap out.

Unsure if the newer GTX runs the same crap cages or not.

There is a good reason Racepace don't push their cars past 500-550hp on twins, it's heat. If you just must run twins on a track past this, it's huge amounts of development and loads of coin.
The exponential factor really kicks in at 650hp I found, how the guys in the 80's ran 70-80psi F1 cars is beyond me, I guess the fuel plays the biggest part.
Methanol would help keep things cooler, but who is going to run that on a street car.
Water/methanol injection would also help bigtime for a circuit setup, maybe this would have been something for me to try?

So you're saying you think the heat issue is cropping up due to less efficient compressor with the gtx60/63 compressors, different manifolds and the merge pipes?

Because all things being equal a single setup isn't going to have any different piping from where it passes under the passenger headlight onwards

    • The two diagrams are equivalent. The R32 one is just one sheet out of about 3 showing everything in the whole car all at once. And without knowing the functionality that occurs in the modules, they are both equally opaque.
    • 8v - 2.48ms 9v - 2.15ms 10v - 1.74ms 11v - 1.41ms 12v - 1.15ms 13v - 0.99ms 14v - 0.89ms 15v - 0.82ms 16v - 0.81ms I'm running these values on my RB20 Neo with 570cc Denso R35 stock jets and it's great. Also bought a set for my Legnum VR4, love these injectors!
    • Thanks for your reply,  Those blue/green wires running to the actuator aren't attached to anything, so I'm not sure how the central locking is still working. I will have to take a good look tomorrow, I don't have the car with me. After googling it seems like a pretty common aftermarket actuator which even uses the same green/blue wires the immobiliser required. i'll test everything tomorrow and if it's working i'll melt the solder, strip it, resolder and neaten it all up with some heat shrink. I don't have to understand it if it works hahaha I just don't want a fire/ short circuit. That R32 diagram looks more like a continuity chart? Can you make sense of this form the R34 manual? 10V is probably due to very flat battery, i'll recheck as well tomorrow, I did have to jump start it haha. Thanks again!
    • So, COM doesn't mean comms. It means common. What common itself means will depend on the type of device. For a two directional actuator (ie, one that can push and pull on the same output rod) then the common will typically just be the earth connection. There will be at least 2 other wires. If you put 12V on one of the other wires, then the actuator will push. On the other 12V wire, it will pull. Can't quite make out what is going on with the wiring of your actuator. It appears to have several wires at the actuator plug, but there only appears to be 2 wires where its loom approaches the door control module, with at least one of the others cut off. I don't know these actuators off by heart. I'd have to look at a wiring diagram for one before knowing what the wires were about, and that's despite me having to replace one in my car not all that long ago. Just not interesting enough to have dedicated memory set aside for trivia like that any more. That actuator is an aftermarket one, not the original one, which probably died and was replaced. That might require some sort of bodge job on wiring to make it work. Although nothing should justify the bodginess of the bodge job done. As to the soldering job on the door module's loom plug. Ahhahhahaha. Yes, very nasty. Again, I cant tell you what any of those wires do. You'd need to study the R34 wiring diagram (if you can find one that shows the door module). I don't think I have any. I'd have to study the R32 diagram to start to understand what mine is doing, and again, even though I've had a problem with mine for the last 25 years (where it locks the passenger door when the driver's window reaches top or bottom of travel) I'm just not interested enough to try to to work it out. So long as it's not burning down, it's fine with me. Here's the R32 GTR diagram, which, confusingly, has rear door lock actuators and window motors on it!! As you can see, unless you understand the functions of the door lock timer and the power window amplifier, you'll never be able to work out how it works just from the diagram. I don't imagine that the R34 one is any better. Hopefully an R34 aware bod can help. FWIW, the two wires that are cut and joined look like they are both power supply - so hopefully it is not fatal to join them. The 10V you measured on the cut off free end of one of them is concerning. You'd expect 12V, and it might be the reason for the bodge job joining them together.
